I wouldn’t be upset at that pick. He may very well be someone whose is still getting better and best days are ahead.

If they get him Kearse needs to give back that zero lol. A big target with an actual bulls eye on his chest may be exactly what Prescott needs!

It wouldn’t at all be a sexy pick but could very well have a bigger immediate impact than anyone you’re getting at 26.

I’m still hoping for one of the interior OL….best chance to find an impact starter long term in the late 20s, but Washington may very well be a major run blocking improvement and develop into a receiving threat in time.
Yeah,
I'm with you in support of OL in rd 1 myself.
The drafting of another TE, whether or not he's billed as a blocker just screams contradictory to the newly adopted run the damn ball and rest the defense motto by this HC.
To me, it translates into just another passing target.

I prefer the best tackle/guard combo prospect at #26.
Another Tyler Smith would suit me just fine.

After looking more at Washington and the situation, he is what I’m hoping for at 26.

I’d hope to add an interior OL on day two.

I figure Kincaid as off the board by 26.

It’ll be interesting if both Mayer and Washington are there.

Among other reasons based on history, I know they want a realistic chance for a 1st round player to be a starter at some point early on, if not right away.

TE or LG are the only spots I see that as possible. Unless a guy like the Tennessee tackle falls and they want to move him to LG, TE is probably going to make the most sense there when the time comes.

Mayer looks like the safer pick but I’d rather go with the upside of Washington. Decent shot there’s more there than we have seen, while Mayer may well have already peaked upside wise.

Yeah that all sounds pretty worked out. Some really like Mayer. I only watch a little film/read/podcasts before the draft. Much as I try, the only football team I manage to care about is the Cowboys. College just doesn't feel the same.

I'd say there is precedence for us drafting SPARQ wonders like Byron Jones, so maybe they go upside with Washington.

Talk about establishing an identity and bullying back the bullies, this guy is a good start.

I’m zoning in on Darnell Washington as my pet cat and first pick if a trade down offer presents itself.

I think he checks off a lot if what our offense needs:

1. Want to improve the running game? Draft a great blocker.

2. Want to help the quarterback and passing game? Draft a 6’7” target who presents a matchup nightmare.

3. Want to allow Ferguson and Hendershot to focus on what they do best? Draft a TE who loves to do the oft-overlooked dirty work.
What are his college stats for receptions?

I like Kincaid more than Mayer but would be OK with either.

I would hate to take a TE with the first pick and then watch one of last seasons rookie TE's have a breakout season. The Cowboys have other needs

However, if the Cowboys take a TE with their first pick because he was the BPA then I would be less critical. I suppose it would depend some on who else was available

I admittedly am paying much less attention to this draft than usual, so I just now took a quick look into Washington.

How is this guy not ranked higher than he is? Did he murder someone? Talk about upside? Wow. I mean, wow. I realize everyone’s highlight reel is great, but this guy looks like clear big time talent.

He would tremendously help the run game immediately and be a red zone mismatch…at worst case.

Jerry was in love with Kyle Pitts, and while Washington may not be quite the athlete Pitts is, we are talking top 5 pick vs bottom 5. He is probably very much on their radar.

If it goes something like….Washington at 26, Avila at 58, a fresh-legged RB and a shifty slot receiver mid rounds….this offense can be a really good one if MM is true to his word….and Jerry allows it of course.
Washington is slow. Lacks the ability to get open. More of a 3r/4th round talent type.

I do like him, but his uses would be limited. 3rd round, sure. 1st, no way.

What's wrong with having 2 great TE's?

A TE in the 1st would be a major waste and would not make us a better team. A RB would be a better pick.

This, if Robinson is gone, would rather trade back (if there is a trade partner) and get an extra pick instead of TE at 26.

Now the latest mock has us taken Robinson at 26 and the team after us takes the TE from ND. Then our second pick has us taking the NT from Baylor. I would be down if the first 2 picks goes down like that.

I guarantee a TE goes before 26.
Probably Mayer will around say....20 ish but that leaves Kincaid and Washington both available at 26. But I'm all for taking the best available Olineman at this point. This is a need and we don't quite have the luxury of taking a TE that early in the draft IMO

What this graph is effectively stating is there is little difference between a first round tight end and a fourth round tight end. Where was Jason Witten drafted? Gronkowski? Ertz Kittle Kelce Goedert Andrews Schultz Waller? Amongst the best TE’s in football, none were first rounders.

You’re really just throwing away draft capital by taking one that high, nevermind the fact that it’s probably the least valuable position toward team success on offense or defense.

Damn nice post...SO true.

About the 4 current TE's on the roster. And 5 TE's that could be on their radar, and a 6th honorable mention prospect.

Top listed TE is Michael Mayer from ND, for the article top listed anyway. I believe he is the TE @CowboyRoy has been posting about.
Mentions Kincaid, then Washington and a few others.
I want any of these

1. Michael Mayer
2. Darnell Washington
3. Tucker Kraft
4. Zack Kuntz
5. Lachlan Pitts
