So, if the media were to camp outside your house for the last 5 years, constantly call you or your family members asking what you were going to do, eat, etc. next and have you made a decision yet between Cable or Satellite TV and then the sports media spent hours each day for days at a time dedicated to discussing what you will or will not do and what you should or should not do, then that would mean you are desperate for attention?

I'm just asking ..

Please... Why don't the media camp in front of every retired player's house?

Because they -- and we -- all know that unlike the rest of them, Favre's "retirement" is (was) completely bogus.

He could shut all this attention down if he really wanted to. He doesn't want to.

And I think if the man wants to continue playing ..... he should.

But this constant pretend retiring just makes him look silly IMNHO.

My sentiments exactly!

and I am pretty sure I don't usually agree with you!

His ego is bigger than T.O.'s ever was.

Um, ok.

I disagree with that wholeheartedly. Brett might be an attention seeker but he is not near the egotistical ******** TO is.

unfortunately he's totally wrong, but the fact remains, I'm speechless :muttley:

It's not that I'm a Favre fan, it just bothers me when the media shapes peoples' opinions from their speculation and comments rather than the facts.

I mean ask yourself this ..

You are 39 years old .. your body hurts and after a day of practice, you feel pain until the next day. You know you have plenty of money and your health, while not perfect, is well enough to enjoy the rest of your life. You love the game of football and if 10 years younger, you would already be in a camp somewhere.

So, you are trying to decide whether or not you want to put yourself through another year of football practices, training, etc. and yet .. every day, you or your agent receives non-stop calls from major media outlets, sports networks, radio stations, news reporters, etc. from all over the country asking you what you are going to do .. what would you do?

I know if it were me, I'd take as much time as possible and if the media would not leave me alone, I would be tempted to tell them "I have decided to stay retired" because at least with that answer, I would have a peaceful period of time that I could actually think about what I want to commit to.

The media influences our lives so much these days that I suspect in 50-100 years, you will not be able to make your own decisions until the media tells you what to do. For some people, that is already happening.

If Favre lived in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, etc. you could make an argument about him wanting attention, but the guy lives in the middle of nowhere. That alone should tell you that it is the media seeking him out, not the other way around.

.. The Philadelphia Eagles. Andy Reid and company are jumping for joy that Farve has trumped the Vick signing and now all media attention can go to Brat, I meant Brett Farve, and he he would have it no other way.

How could he shut this down? Stop answering the phone? Move to the middle of nowhere? Oh wait, he's already there.

The reason the media camps in front of his house is simple .. there are very few people left in the NFL that excite or irritate the bulk of NFL fans as a whole. There are one and two year wonders like Chad Johnson, but there are few people who are capable of generating user feedback and reaction and that is what sports media craves and honestly needs to maintain ratings and advertising revenue. Why do you think they talk about TO non-stop? Why do you think they talk about Favre non-stop? Why are they talking about Vick non-stop?

They talk about players who generate user feedback and call-in's and if they have no one to talk about, they create a player scenario by talking about them non-stop until people jump on their bandwagon.

I have to give credit to ESPN .. they really know how to work the fans .. I can just picture them having a meeting and laughing about how easily manipulated people are.

I'll probably be the only happy fan in the forum. Love this, even though it makes them a tough team to beat.

As annoying as this is, I have to admit, I feel the same way. This team will be STOUT though. No more 8-9 guys in the box to stop Peterson either. It doesn't hurt that Peterson is one of my keepers on my fantasy team either.

I can't wait for the green bay games.

come on-. he could stop sending his little text messages to people. He is like the guy that tells you to go do something as he sits back and watches, knowing what the outcome will be. His is not the country bumpkin some make him out to be.

It would if I handled the attention by pretending my intentions were other than they were for a few years, contributing to the team I originally played for determining they needed to have a QB plan in place b/c of all the waffling I'm doing and using a #1 pick to replace me, then I got frustrated with them for not supporting me enough while I waffled, then, next season, when I did it all again and that team gave me an ultimatum I left in a huff and moved my private shower and all to the AFC where I could wear out my welcome with a franchise who's starting Kellen Clemens this year instead. If I then brought the whole road-show to Minny during the offseason, waffled back and forth for 6 months or so while the players and coaches were preparing for 2009 while dealing with the distractions I caused even though I'm not even technically on their roster, and then I stroll into camp just before the second preseason game in time to cram for the season because I'm old and feel entitled to skip the early part of training camp because the team wants me badly, despite the fact that it clearly wasn't in the best interest of the team for me to have waited so long, but, whatever. I'd be there, anyway, just in time to say 'aw-shucks,' and 'I just really love to play this game' for the cameras that have been camping out on my porch for the last five years because they know, as I said before, that I'm a big flapping-wet douchebag. Yeah, that'd pretty much make me a douchebag.

A great QB, who's still a good QB, but a douchebag nonetheless.

my whole deal is that the media isn't digging these soundbites out of Favre, he willingly gives them away

I mean, cripes, announcing a press conference to state that you're retiring, when you know that there's a good chance that you won't

the guy just can't stay out of the spotlight

The difference in T.O. as lot of athletes, he is trying to brand himself, like advertising and it is annoying.

But little lord farve says he does not want attention but really does in a passive-aggressive way. He is calculating. he just said on 7/28, I'm staying retired and now that camp is over, I'm coming back. At least with T.O. you know up front about the ego and attention while Farve tries to hide this good ole boy image.

You guys are sucked in to it. I'm not buying it. I hope Canton calls him after he retires ( if ever) and says you in the HOF, wait no your not, wait yes you are....

Where's Wolf Blitzer?

Waiting to open the door for Brett the Drama Queen when he makes his dramatic arrival.....

Thing is, as much as the Vikings need a stable QB to get the talented team to the playoffs, which most think that Favre can do that. I believe he also can cost them a playoff spot, or a loss in the playoffs.

My prediction...they make the playoffs, come to Dallas, and even though there won't be a crown at the new stadium....he still will not win a game in Cowboy land....he will throw a 4th quarter pick to Jenkins [staying away from TNEW]....game over....
