Also, don't forget, we could very well get a 7th round comp pick for losing Smith.
So we essentially get 2 picks and player for losing 1 pick.

So after reviewing this, I believe Dallas gambled on the tender for Smith thinking no one would sign him and they could get him to sign a low contract.

Now we're paying the same amount that we would have with the tender and getting a less impact player plus downgrading our draft pick.

Try again. Smith was a RFA who wasn’t tendered. He doesn’t count in the comp pick equation.

Can't believe, well actually I do. So far an 8 page thread over a FB. :lmao2: as fans freak out over this.
It isn't like they gave up a 2nd round for a TE or a red shirt type injured player.
well there is still time for that, but that is over a month away.

You dont downgrade a Pick for a washed up FB that you didnt Keep after Camps, that the other Team doesnt want anymore because they got YOUR FB.

Doesnt make sense. There will be a ton of Players like this available for free and the League Minimum.

He would have been cut anyway.

This is not a less-impact player. Olawale is a better fullback than Smith. As the new coach, Gruden wanted to go a different direction and had our special teams coach whispering in his ear. Special teams and run blocking might be the only areas where Smith is better than Olawale and the difference is negligible. As a receiver and runner, Olawale is quite a bit better.

I don't think there is a market for fullbacks in this league. I could be wrong but I don't see it. And even if there was....I think even exchanging our 5th for their 6 is steep.

19 slots at that point does not mean a lot. They gave up 18 to 23 slots last year to get Xaiver Woods...anyone complains about that?

Yeah but lets cry about it anyways. Seriously though, I like the move. Its not sexy but he is a good player and we save a couple million as opposed to paying for Smith.

You guys realize the Cowboys could have put a second round tender on Smith? That would have cost them $1.9 Million and no draft picks. Instead, they paid an inferior player $1.64 Million, and it cost them 19 spots in the draft. They thought they could work out a contract with Smith, gambled, and they were wrong. They underestimated his value.

PFF’s number 2 rated FB in pass protection. A very good lead blocker as well.

Much better than the 4.2M that Smith is getting.

Small move but it seems solid to me.
He is also a better receiver and can run a little bit

I mean unless we actually plan on giving this guy the ball a handful of times, could of just signed some dude off the street. The fullback who blocked for Kamara and Ingram is still an UFA. So is the Coleman from the Falcons but he is deaf IIRc

People are bored, so anything will get the board's attention a little bit.

Trading down 20 slots very late the draft to get a FB is pretty inconsequential. I agree.

We get him and a 6th and they get a 5th rounder. Not bad. He can catch out of the back field. Good for what we do.

Support this false claim.

As the new coach, Gruden wanted to go a different direction and had our special teams coach whispering in his ear. Special teams and run blocking might be the only areas where Smith is better than Olawale and the difference is negligible. As a receiver and runner, Olawale is quite a bit better.

Why? Because of one busted coverage play? Please...

Who says he washed up or wood be cut. Teams cut good players all the time from TC. There is a roster limit you know. He was competing with a FB that played well, so he was cut. He spent 6 years with one team. Can't be all that bad. Heck we cut Ware and he was a key player for getting Denver a SB win.

If you look at the overall snap Smith would contribute to special teams vs the very limited snaps where we use a FB, it would argue that Smith is the more impact player.

Also, Dallas offered Smith a multi-year deal, so we know this was not an intentional plan.

It a FB, so I really don't care that much. This is just my view of what happened.
