Ignore your point? I blew it out of the water so it no longer exists... so yeah, it's pretty easy to ignore because it was evaporated by my own. In what many people call the greatest team sport ever, nobody is saying QBs win championships all by themselves so stop pretending you were countering that argument. The old saying defense wins championships reigns true so your sudden realization of that reality is not news to your intended audience. You're not laying down new football dogma on the masses Einstein. Give it up.

I love when people contradict themselves, but think they won an argument.

...most years the top three would rank lower than they are projected.

Right now? That's exactly why its not the best option, because Right now is the wrong Year/Draft to take a QB in the top 20....much less Top 4.

So what's the plan? Stay at 4-12 indefinitely until such time as there is a QB worth taking in the top 5?

That should work.

Bottom line: there is no plan. And that's exactly the problem

If we didn't already have a QB you would be right, but we do have a QB.

All of these first round draft picks have their own risk involved, but when you combine risk and less contribution... It simply doesn't make sense.

And here in lies the problem. At 36, we should draft like Romo is not on the roster. Believe me, I would love nothing more than for him to lead us to a SB, but at his age, we should not factor him into long term plans. He's obviously the starter and gives us the best chance to win, and that will not change no matter who we draft, but we simply can not pass on a guy that has franchise potential.

But the QB have is 36 years old with a long injury history and a bad back. To ignore this fact is simply burying your head in the sand.

Jerry Jones sees Tom Brady sign an extension until he is 42 and decides that Romo can be the same. But outside of 2008, Brady has no injury history. But Jerry willful blindness won't allow him to see that.

People who are proactive and think ahead and plan for the future would take that QB at #4 if the scouts tell him there is a franchise guy there. Then there are guys like yourself and Jerry who really incapable of planning beyond next week. And make decisions on the seat of their pants.

And they are ones ones that lose every year.

Do you see how you gave Brady a pass for non chronic injuries?

Romo's injury to his back is entirely unrelated to his collarbone. Connecting the two is disingenuous.

Is the collarbone a chronic issue? It may become one, but I wouldn't say it is right now. I think they didn't take it as seriously last time, and just let it heal rather than having the surgery and then they obviously rushed him back the second time because we were still in the playoff hunt.

Who cares? What did the three first round talents do to help this team's fortunes in 2015?

We ended up getting the guy who was considered the best pass rusher in the 2015 draft and he ended the season with 0 sacks and a drug suspension.

That is true. But drafting him won't set the franchise back 3 to 5 years. If he can't play then we will bury him on the depth chart and move on. Getting Collins sort of offsets the possible miss of Gregory, plus some. The Cowboys are also doing a few things right, even though the naysayers don't really want to acknowledge that fact.

If we draft a QB at #4 and MISS, it will set this organization back 3 to 5 years because the opportunity cost of drafting one means that you will probably not draft a potentially better quarterback the next year even if you get the opportunity to because we invested in a QB at #4.

The best move that the Commanders have made in the last 5 years is that when they went all in on RGIII they drafted Cousins the same year to hedge their bets. I thought it was a stroke of genius move at the time and it looks even more so now. If they take Goff or Wentz at #4, I think it would be a great idea to also take another QB later in the draft as well, or next year, if the grade merits it.

Every first round pick has risks. So what? What did we gain by picking Terrence Newman and Claiborne with high picks? Did Greg Ellis put us over the top? Heck, he picked a HOF OLB/DE with a relatively high pick and it did little for the fortunes of this franchise. QB is the most important position that will have the greatest impact. We can close our eyes and try for the once in a lifetime Tom Brady approach or we can try what Pitt, Baltimore and others, INCLUDING Dallas, have done that led to SB's.

Well, if we don't have a franchise QB, 4 and 12 (or worse) looks like an easily attainable goal from my point of view.

Chronic or not, Romo is one hit and one back injury from being finished. That is clear. One would think the brain trust would plan for that, especially since they were all there when Aikman suddenly quit. Jerry thought Troy had 4-5 years left too.

But I use the term brain trust loosely. I see little evidence of brain cells functioning at Valley Ranch based on Jerrys rambling.

So we will never draft a qb when Romo is the starter. Have fun when Romo suddenly retires, just as when Aikman retired (because of injury). It all worked out so well then.

There you go, dwelling on the past as predictor of the future again.

Which is why if the talent evaluators tell Jerry there is a franchise QB at #4, they need to forget any other options and take him.

That is ridiculous. How does missing on one QB player set us back 3-5 years?

If we want Bosa we can sign Hardy
If we want Ramsey we can sign Weddle
If we want Bruckner we can sign MWilliams
If we want Jack we can sign RMcClain

If we want a QB we can sign.............RGIII??????? That is not a great option. He is ok for a one year stop gap but that's it. No one gives away good QBs. Look at what Cousins, Bradford and Osweiler get as mediocre QBs.

You obviously don't pay attention. LOL. I said that if we take a QB at #4 overall, that the chance of us drafting one next year is much less, even if we have a chance at a better QB than the one we drafted at #4 this year is available to us because of the investment that we made at #4 and the TIME it takes to evaluate a QB. That is the biggest difference between QB and any other position. If you swing and MISS on a QB it sets you back more than not having one at all. If you KNOW you don't have a franchise QB then you are desperately trying to acquire one. If you think you have one and you don't, well you aren't looking because they cost too much to have two such guys on the roster.

By many accounts, the QB class next year is worse than this year.

So there's that.

And chances are that we will be drafting much lower than #4 next year, reducing the chance of getting a quality QB next year, assuming there will be any.

This year is the best chance we will have. But it looks like Jerry intends to blow it.

Actually, to some degree, next year's QB draft class is irrelevant. There is no guarantee you could get a franchise QB in next year's draft even if there are some available to draft. Likewise, if you knew there would be NONE available, it really shouldn't affect this year's draft either.

Either you grade the QBs as franchise QBs or you don't. If you do, then decide if the player is worth more than your other options available, viewing the totality of the circumstances. If not you pass on drafting one NO MATTER HOW BAD YOUR NEED IS!!!! Drafting a ****** player at #4 won't make him a superstar just because you over drafted him. Grade the players and stick to your board!!!!

Let's assume Romo plays all 16 games next year. The Cowboys finish 10-6 and win a playoff game. Not an unrealistic scenario.

Next off season you will have a 37 year old QB with a bad back. A draft class of QB'S worse than this year. And your draft pick is in the 20's.

That is a terrible situation to be in, IMO. Awful.

There is no guarantee you could get a franchise QB in ANY year. There is no such thing as a guarantee.

Therefore, by your logic, we should never draft one. We will be winning Super Bowls by the dozens that way.
