if this coverage scheme is also press-jam man scheme under DB coach Al Harris as its' said to be,..how is Awuzie gonna be any different (better) than what he was under Kris Richard...??
A 2 deep (Safety) alignment instead of single high completely changes the requirements for the CBs.

Almost all the big plays allowed by Awuzie in 2019 were when he was on the side opposite of the slot WR (i.e. The side with only 1 WR). The Cowboys FS would align towards the side with 2 WRs. That meant no help for Awuzie.

No help means no disguise of coverage.

With 2 deep they can mix up coverage on both sides of the field.

The key is to stop the run with 7 in the box.

means the qb looked over to that side winks at his WR and threw there every time he noticed this..

however this year will be and Improved DB group because the DL looks to be dominate at ;least on paper..pass rush that good keeps Dbs from covering the deep ball all day..

Offenses could dictate that matchup just by where they aligned the slot WR.

There were other differences between LCB and RCB because of the difference in RDE, LDE and the LB responsibilities.

The RDE played a gap and a half wider than the LDE and the RDE had extra support from a LB. That meant the LCB (Awuzie) had more run contain responsibility on outside runs than the RCB.

It's odd that they didn't try swapping sides with Jones/Awuzie.

What's interesting ......only 2 starting LBers. I know it's way early but still interesting ....

Once again Crawford saves the day... ultimate utility Defensive Lineman. Worth every penny of his contract. So happy Cowboys and Crawford know each others worth!!

Check out these listed 2020 base salaries:

Gerald McCoy - $2.5 million
Dontari Poe - $2 million
Everson Griffen - $3 million
Aldon Smith - $910,000
---------------------------------------
Total - $8.41 million

Tyrone Crawford? $8 million

It's enough to make you sick.

Without Crawford and Poe on PUP, Nolan would be forced to start Trysten or Woods!?!?
It seems much but Crawford's flex ability after acquiring Griffen gives team a chance get Poe up to speed and targeted reps; mixing Crawford and Poe keeps play level consistent.
Trysten and Woods can not be trusted. Neville too

I'm not reading anything into it other than they came out in a nickel alignment.

McCoy and Crawford were the 'starting' defensive tackles, so that tells me that they were putting a rush package out there rather than a base.

Ah, you mean "pass rush" package, not run defense, right?

Anyone know the 1st team run defense package with Poe out?
Did Woods take that?

Smith already starting at DE?

Nice

Good sign that Aldon Smith is RDE even before signing Griffen. Beating out Armstrong, Jackson, Anae. They aren't much, but it shows that Smith is NFL ready. Getting to NFL caliber was the big hurdle for him, IMO. Getting *better* with more time on task after he made it to NFL caliber is inevitable.

- you don't put byron jones in a zone scheme where he is uncomfortable off of a WR, playing wth a cushion, or have him in space
or zone coverage where he gets lost; you place him as close to the line of scrimmage, have him as many press situations as possible
that he bests plays comfortable with.

Byron's inability in zone made him failure as a S. Best in trailing hip pocket man coverage. Too fast and agile to run away from, with great length and coordination to defend passes, if not catch them.

it helps that DL coach Jim Tomsula already knows Aldon upfront and very familiar with him. though i dunno how Jim connected
and got the better information with the updated training and conditioning regiment of Smith with this pandemic making it so
difficult in person meetings.

And Alden even after 4 years away from the game is already a mile ahead of Armstrong and Jackson
in skill level, and Anae is miles behind everyone in terms of nuisances of the NFL level, techniques, pace, etc.
He's gonna start from the bottom and have to work his way up...

Woods, the guy that started at 1T last year? I'll take that until Poe is ready in a few days.

Because it IS "much". Far too "much". As the list illustrates. It's sickeningly "much".

Trysten and Woods can not be trusted. Neville too

But double hip surgery can? The guy that missed most of last season is who you "trust"?

Why is everyone butt hurt that Crawford is making 8 million? Is it coming out of your pockets? He is a good player that can play multiple positions.....what's with all the hate? I don't get it.
Stash really hates him. I think he’s a decent run stopper. It was the best we had For a while
