Question:
If Dallas had waited and got Jaylon in the fourth, would people be so likely to look down on him?

Different question:
If Smith wasn’t picked in the second round and didn’t have a such a high contract and so many egos attached to him, would you be looking to replace him?
Yes, he’s a horrible player.

The guy was drafted almost 5 years ago, his draft slot is now totally irrelevant.
His cap hits are going to balloon to almost 14M/YR. This is the same as Eric Kendricks.
Eric Kendricks is the #3 LB according to PFF. Jaylon Smith is #53. There are 86 ranked LBs.
Say what you want about PFF, for Eric and Jaylon to be equivalent PFF would have to be wrong by 25 slots each for them to meet in the middle at #28. PFF isn't that bad.
This is the problem. Not the draft pick, not the swipe, not the whatever. The problem is that he's paid like a top LB but his play is, at absolute best, middle of the pack this year, and that's being optimistic to give his supporters the benefit of the doubt.
Yall realize you don't have to defend him, right? Every team is gonna miss on contracts and this is one of our misses, absolutely. You're just not being reasonable if you're trying to argue Jaylon Smith is a top LB this year.
The good news is, we aren't as stuck with him as we appear. Cutting him post-June 1st gives 7.2M in savings and only 2.6M dead, and we can absolutely replace Jaylon for under 7.2M because he's not good.

The best way to prove you’re devoid of understanding football is to point at tackle totals to prove a defensive player’s supposed ability.
Thanks for proving what everyone already knows about you.
“Hey guys, says here Jameis Winston threw for the most yards last year.....why isn’t he considered the best QB in the league?!?!?”
But his tackle totals tho?
I really don’t care where he was drafted. The fact is he sucks and is a liability.
^^^^ X 1000Many people hated the pick in round 2 b/c he was a 2 year project from day 1. Smart teams don't waste years of a rookie contract rehabbing guys drafted with premium picks. But he was good year 3......... and then the FO stupidly rewarded him with this big contract years before they had to.......... many feel this was done as a response to questions about Jones loyalty to players in regard to the Zeke holdout. Jerry was trying to use Jaylon as an example of someone who shows up, works, and gets rewarded. But the contract and its timing never made sense in football terms. Jaylon has done nothing since to earn that contract and has shown the Jones to be the football fools they've always been.
no matter who picked him if it was before the 5th round it would have been a bad pick.Wouldn’t of lasted until the 4th New England was snatching him with the next pic that’s why they traded back up into the second round it’s a video on YouTube his documentary following his draft dropping the link
