Fisher: Speculating Beasley deal - 4 yr/13mil agreement reached Post #10

I never understood these premature deals.......he was restricted so why not tender him with a first round pick, then at the end of the year or next year sign him to a 4 year deal?

And if he catches 50-60 balls this year the price goes up. I'm guessing close to 50 this year.

It's definitely tough to feed them all.

Would you rather have a heavy dose of Beasley in the offense or Escobar? Because it could very well come down to that.

I know this is a CB thread but I know one receiver who definitely isn't thrown to enough....88

I can see the numbers being mentioned as justified only if he hit the 50 catch range already up to this point. He is a great niche player but he had 39 catches for 400 yards/4 TDs and two TOs. That justifies 3 mil/avg? Who would pay him that on the open market...maybe DEN/NE? I don't see them paying him 3/yr, etc.

He is a great Romo safety blanket but isnt that what 2nd WRs command (salary)? . He is a possession slot WR (Eldelman, Welker-lite) but has great wiggle too. Just don't want the team to fall in the common trap of overvaluing our talent. Sounds like 1.5-2 tops in value but understand if they plan to incorporate more gimmick-slot screens, end arounds, in future game plan it makes sense to lock him down earlier (Cobb type contributions in RZ)

The Patriots pay Danny Amendola $5.7 million per season.

Dez gets 28% of the passes Dallas attempts thrown his way. Dez was targeted 46 more times than Witten last season. Dallas ranked 31st in pass attempts last season, so Dez putting up the numbers he did was very impressive. He was targeted plenty enough times.

Misstep on my part;) But Amendola also couldn't be looked at as a sound signing for NE I think even they would admit. Disappointing so far. Eldelman/Welker fit those mold and their production trumps Beas but for the same hypotehtical contract that looks like Beas will get.

Eldelman Contract (92 catches, 972)
Term: Four years
Signing bonus: $5 million
Maximum value: $19 million

2014
Base:
$1 million (guaranteed)
Roster bonus: $500,000 ($31,250 per game on 46-man roster)
Incentives: Up to $500,000
Cap: $2.75 million

2015
Base:
$2.25 million ($2 million guaranteed for injury only, converts to skill guarantee in ’15)
Roster bonus: $750,000 ($46,875 per game on 46-man roster)
Incentives: Up to $500,000
Cap: $4.25 million

2016
Base:
$2.5 million
Roster bonus: $750,000 ($46,875 per game on 46-man roster)
Offseason workout: $250,000
Incentives: Up to $500,000
Cap: $4.75 million

2017
Base:
$3 million
Roster bonus: $750,000 ($46,875 per game on 46-man roster)
Offseason workout: $250,000
Incentives: Up to $500,000
Cap: $5.25 million

Is this for 90 catches/ or 40? Beasley's is a tad lower but the range is near close for much reduced production by comparison.

I think it's his high rate of completions and third down conversions along with his elusiveness and ability to create separation that makes him valuable. It's not just stats. I don't know how many balls he'll catch this year although I think I remember it said they wanted him more involved. I can see 50 this year but I wouldn't lay money on it.

You're not going to get a starter for less than they paid. Just like slot CBs, slot receivers are considered starters these days.

Personally, I love this signing. Beasely is a great weapon - especially on 3rd down. He is almost impossible to cover on those quick routes. He keeps drives alive and is almost always on the same page as Romo. Great signing.

I might be missing it, but I don't see any threads here about the Cowboys re-signing Cole Beasley. It seemed strange so I figured I'd start a Beasley thread. Personally, I love this signing. Because they actually save cap space doing this. On a yearly basis, for the first two years, he's cheaper with this contract then he would be by signing a second round tender.

Not bad for a guy who was unsure he could/wanted to play at this level.

Thank God Dallas had more patience than many fans who wanted him cut instantly at that time. Beasley has been another absolute undrafted FA gem for the Cowboys.

quite right.there is a similar reaction to Scandrick extension when he was perceived as just a slot corner but now nobody thinks thats a bad deal,we have to give our front office kudos on exercising some foresight.this is a deal on what Beas will do going forward and he is going to catch more than 37 next season.

I never said his numbers weren't impressive...I do know there were games where he wasn't getting enough looks..regardless of stats.............

No, you think he wasn't getting enough looks. That is different than knowing.
