Fisher: Speculating Beasley deal - 4 yr/13mil agreement reached Post #10

Dez is controlled? that is not my point. why are we not locking up 2 of our best players long term? that's just dumb in my opinion. an unhappy Dez could turn into Vernon Davis or Jimmy Graham this year. i do not want that to happen. but the man hasfeelings, and will try and keep from getting hurt next year with only a one year deal.

Dez wants $16 per season.................you giving him that much?

It is not as simple as "just lock him up long term", because if you make Dez the highest paid WR in the league then you will have no money left for anybody else.

Same with Murray, we offered him 4yrs/$16 million and he said no..........do you just pay him whatever he ask for as well?

From what I've read, his confidence level has been down as well. The difference between Claiborne and Beasley, Claiborne left after being told Scandrick would replace him in anger and a diva-like manner; Beasley at least had a better excuse.

But I will say, Claiborne's injury didn't give him a chance to rebound after the switch.

Interesting.... I was just curious of your perspective.

I would be interested to see how much more he can do. Can he be Julian Edelman? I would not say he can't. I'd be in favor of increasing his role.

He got absolutely leveled late last season. I can't remember the game. But he got his head almost taken off on a reception. He just popped right back up and kept playing. He was a very unique find for the Cowboys.

I think he can do more. I just don't know if there are enough balls to go around.

Very similar to the Andrew Hawkins deal. The difference is Hawkins has elite top-end speed and was moved from the slot to the outside for most of last year with the Browns. The Cowboys probably overpaid a little bit, but it's not unreasonable.

It's definitely tough to feed them all.

Would you rather have a heavy dose of Beasley in the offense or Escobar? Because it could very well come down to that.

That's the negative with Beasley. He can't play outside. He is not a true #3 in the sense that he is not backing up the starters. Our backup for Dez and/or Williams is Devin Street. Which should scare people.

I think it's a flexibility thing. In any given game, depending on what the Defense gives you, it could be either player who gets more targets. JMO

Right but do you think the offense would be more effective spreading out the touches for those two players or featuring one over the other?

I just think Beasley may be underutilized.

I don't really know the answer to this yet. I mean, a lot depends on what our RB situation is and how effective it is (if we lose Murray) and what happens with Dez. In general, I am in favor of distributing the ball more. I'm just not certain that you can do that consistently with either player. Neither is good enough, at this point in their respective careers to simply beat defenses regardless of what is thrown at them so it's more a situation of what is the Defense giving you. I think it just varies from game to game.

I don't know if he'll be underutilized but he's now overpaid.

It was against Detroit in the Wild Card game. He also nearly got his head ripped off against the Commanders on a facemask. He's a tough little man, but he has a knack for getting open. Very quick out of his breaks.

I think they do different jobs for the most part.

Here's hoping he can stay healthy with all the balls now being thrown his way, or at least how many should be based on how's he's being paid. I just can't get behind paying him big bucks. The guy is all of 180lbs. And defenders try to kill him when he catches the ball.

And we've now signed two players and have yet to make this team better than it was last year. If it came down to Beas or Durrant or maybe keeping Free? Give me option 2 or 3 instead of this signing.

I think so, too, but we don't know the defenses that well from TV or what reads Romo is trying to make based on that and in game changes etc.

I never understood these premature deals.......he was restricted so why not tender him with a first round pick, then at the end of the year or next year sign him to a 4 year deal?

I'll post some links later on, but there were multiple sources that said he went home, talked with his family, and got back on his medication and then returned to Dallas.

However, he didn't have much confidence in TC when he first got here which I'm sure triggered some things. The fact that he's developed the way he has after his confidence level was down and the bout with depression is impressive, a lot of players (Claiborne comes to mind) give up. Kudos to Beasley.

You don't need to post anything . I already found out you are right.
