Flyer's 2 Hat Tricks Vs. Penquins

Yeah, it looked like they didn't have their legs under them in the first period.

The goalie play was soft on both sides.

But I'll tell ya, this may... may... be the best offense they've ever had– taken within the context of how many goals are scored in the NHL now, this isn't the 80's.

The offense is spread out across all the lines as opposed to the Lindros teams where the offense seemed to come only from a single line.

Don't get me wrong, the Flyers have had some terrific offenses, but this one is right up there.

Agree, this offense is scary good, but I think our goaltending is going to be are downfall. Don't want to look past the devils but the rangers are tough to score against and tough to score on and if we are to come out of the east, we will have to beat the rangers.

Bryz is being carried so far. I have no confidence whatsoever that he can play well enough to beat the Rangers in a series.

Yep. He will not single handily win a game for you but he can defiantly lose one for you. It is a good thing we are probably the best offensive team remaining in the playoffs, otherwise we would have no chance.

Im pretty tired of seeing Bryz thrown under the bus by fans when the real problem this team has is losing focus in the defensive end and not playing as hard in their own zone as they do in the offensive zone. We got absolutely dominated last night and Bryz kept us in that game much longer than we should have been. Skaters need to step it up and actually.. skate.

Roy, you're absolutely correct. A great goaltending effort can be wiped away by crappy D, which was played by us last night. Outside of the Pens blowout, I had not seen us get so outskated and out muscled. NJ wanted that game, and weren't going to be denied.

A very bad game.

2 shots in the 2nd period... Really?

..and they didn't get their first one until about 2 minutes left in the period. Hell the first 18 minutes were spent entirely in the Flyers zone. It was embarassing.

I think we play better when are backs are agianst the wall. We are 4-0 when the oposition scores the 1st goal and 1-3 when we score the 1st goal.
Hopefully the Devils score 1st tomorrow night.

Interesting article in the Philly paper about the Flyers adhereing to matching lines and wondering if they should be bothering given the difference in talent between the two clubs.

Saw that as well, and while it worked well against the Pens, its probably not necessary against the Devils, and it could be working to the Devils advantage knowing who the Flyers are going to put out in any given situation. Though if we skate (aka don't skate at all) like we did in game 2, it won't matter who we put on the ice.

I really wish I knew enough about Hockey to get into it ........it seems like a great game.

Eight games now and two games where they just threw their sticks out on the ice.
You can't keep doing that if you want to win a Cup.

Losing a game is one thing, but the total lack of effort in this game and in game 4 of the Pens series is unacceptable.
The Devils looked hungry. They played with desperation.

And that nonsense should start and stop with the veterans on the club.

You read stuff from Briere and Jagr about how the club didn't put forth much effort... well come'on guys.

Playoff hockey is epic.

Pick a team next year and follow them. You'll probably love it. Especially the postseason.

They just coasted after the first goal. With the Devils shorthanded and everybody expecting an easy series, they lost their edge.

I expect them to rebound in game 3. If they don't, then I'll worry.

It was good to see the overpaid goaltender play a good two periods.

Great article on Bryz and how bad he's been in the postseason....

Last season, the Philadelphia Flyers were swept by the Boston Bruins in a conference semifinal matchup where head coach Peter Laviolette pulled his goalie in each of the first three games of that series, and made seven in-game goalie switches combined over the team's 11 playoff games. All told, netminders Brian Boucher, Sergei Bobrovsky and Michael Leighton posted a woeful .894 save percentage and 3.19 GAA during the first two rounds.

Shortly after the Flyers were eliminated, Ed Snider, the chairman of the Flyers' parent company, Comcast Spectacor, said he "never again" wanted to go through another goalie carousel like he did in that year's playoffs and signed free agent Ilya Bryzgalov to a staggering $51 million, nine-year deal, making him the highest-paid netminder in the league.

"It had to be done," Snider said of the signing. "I was part of making it happen. It was hard to sit there and watch the Stanley Cup final, knowing what [Tim] Thomas was doing for Boston."

Bryzgalov did indeed stop the Flyers' goalie carousel, finishing seven of the eight postseason games he started so far this postseason, but the results are even worse than last year: .879 save percentage and 3.62 GAA. The difference this time is the Flyers are winning more games, but for how long?

Two days before the postseason began Bryzgalov declared he was scared only of "bears in the forest" and not his opponent, the Pittsburgh Penguins, whom the Flyers eventually defeated in six games during the opening round. But Bryzgalov was anything but steady. He stopped just 142 of 163 shots against in the series, which is the worst post-lockout performance for a goalie who advanced to the second round after facing a minimum of 150 shots against. Of the goalies who turned in a save percentage below .900 in the first round since 2006, all were on the losing team in the second round.

To bad. Bryz played a good game and the whole team decided to take most of the night off. Bryz played well enough to win.
