I want to say yes but....the big issue is do you eat $72m in dead cap space to release/trade Dak after 2027 in order to pay Milton?

Daks contract makes it very difficult to replace him unless the Cowboys are very committed to doing so.

***Only $17M of Dak's 2028 salary is guaranteed ( Cowboys exercise option by the 5th day of the 2026 league year)

Tons of questions if Milton proves he has starting potential
**** No way Dak will play the 2028 season w/o more guaranteed money
**** He either walks or gets a new extension
**** Trade Milton or offer a new contract?

They could still keep 3 QB's.
If Howell is released though, they can put him on the PS.
Even if his $2.5 million is guaranteed. Jerry ate contracts like that before. Even more than that. A lot more.

Then there are trade opportunities. If a team needs a QB or a back up. Or he makes the 53, until rosters are settled. Then get him to the PS. Or 3 weeks in, a QB goes down. There is the trade opportunity again.

I don't ever remember Doug Williams having wheels certainly not like Milton has.

In his tampa bay early years he did. When he went to Washington Joe Gibbs made him more into a pocket passer first and foremost, by design.

Exactly. Start Milton in the situation you mentioned, but if it's not going well, send in Howell.

I am guessing they will go with 3 QBs since, as I stated earlier, I don't think you're sneaking Howell onto the practice squad.

Why is it if somoene doesnt think a player is good, he is a "Hater?" I have been pretty indifferent towards Milton. He has not played well since arriving here. BUT, these two pre season games he has looked pretty good, and last night he just won the backup qb job because he looked exceptional. BUT, the ONLY thing that will matter if/when he gets a chance when it actually matters; does he play solid and WIN real games?

If he does, he will have the majority of people in here supporting him. If he doesnt, the number of "Haters," will grow exponentially.

I'd like to see Milton get all the snaps Friday night. He needs all he can get to continue his progression. I would also like to see Schotty and Adams challenge him to make every throw not just the safe ones. Last night was impressive. He has more upside/athletic ability than Howell. Just keep it going!

Howell has started many games in the NFL and the Cowboys know what he can/can't do at this point. So far I've been disappointed in his play. Being just ok isn't what I was expecting from an experienced vet with 18 starts.

Why would you expect him to be anything more than what he is... just ok. You are who you are. These 2s and 3s arent Jr high players.

The first preseason game, I thought, the accuracy, the poise, had improved greatly, I said he was no longer throwing just bullets
He learned how to put some touch on the football
My criticism was when he got pressured out of the pocket, he panicked a little
Last night, he seemed a lot more comfortable, when he was pressed out of the pocket
Nothing but improvement from this young man

I could see us trying to see if we could deal Howell to someone like Atlanta. They might give us a higher pick with how bad their QB situation is.

Milton, much to my surprise looked great! I will temper expectations as Milton seems to get very nervous with his throws when there is a pass rush. Hats off to Jerry if Milton ends up being great, but let’s see how he does in the regular season vs first team defenses.
