For the Milton haters. You don't know QB

Milton, much to my surprise looked great! I will temper expectations as Milton seems to get very nervous with his throws when there is a pass rush. Hats off to Jerry if Milton ends up being great, but let’s see how he does in the regular season vs first team defenses.
I said the same exact thing on the first game of preseason, he looked much better last night, the guys does nothing but improve. I’m so impressed and happy for him.

Told you Cowboybish Milton will be a starter, and hopefully for the Pokes. qb rating over 151 last night 2 te passes and a td run. He man is a baller with unusual talents throwing and running. Now that there is a coaching staff in place, the sky is the limit. You all wrong about Shelton also. He will be a long term starter as well. Go Pokes!

LOL.

I love preseason.

Maybe they only hate Milton because he could become a threat to their hero.... I think it would be quite funny if 2016 repeated itself and Dak was benched in favor of Milton. Epic meltdowns if that were to happen
That would mean a bad injury to Dak.
No bueno

Exactly. Start Milton in the situation you mentioned, but if it's not going well, send in Howell.

I am guessing they will go with 3 QBs since, as I stated earlier, I don't think you're sneaking Howell onto the practice squad.
Milton’s never played under fire against starters so me personally, I’d want Howell to go in first if the Cowboys had the lead, or behind, but it was close. If it’s a blowout going on either way put Milton in first.

Full context matters. Milton did it against dudes that will be on the couch soon. Selling insurance etc I'm being realistic but still proud to see him improve. I'd love to see him do this against top competition.
You're right that he's doing it against dudes who won't be on a roster soon, but he's also doing it with dudes who won't be on a roster soon. While we have to take stats with a big grain of salt in the preseason, I think we can still evaluate Milton in the preseason on the basis of individual traits and decision making.

Milton has as impressive blend of physical abilities as any QB in the league. What he has lacked when he has played is decision making and throwing with touch and accuracy. He has tended to force things unnecessarily, and every pass is an atomic fireball. Even though it's preseason, it's encouraging to see him playing more under control, taking what the defense is giving, making better decisions (and understanding not every play has to be a home run throw) and adjusting his touch based on whether it's a short/intermediate/deep pass. Agreed with you that I'd still ned to see him doing it against starters, but I like what I've seen from him in these two preseason games.

Hush, child. Call out threads are weak.

I say let Joe play Week 1 and see what we have. I put next to nothing into pre-season games. The Giants stink; it should be a layup

Yeah, it's a little premature for the I told you so's on Milton.

If you were to trace his whole draft and development journey I think you would come to a more reasonable conclusion that "It's good to see Milton FINALLY resembling an NFL backup."

And leave it at that.

Well said.

Milton played very well, quite impressive. Now, if he can get to be consistent, maybe we'll have something.

This. I realize people are over the moon about Milton but it was one pre-season game against what looks like a horrid Cardinals team's mostly backup players. Milton looked like dog poo-poo last pre-season and I don't remember one person defending him that much. He looked a lot better but I don't think we should go overboard. If he has to play in a real game, I dunno...

Such a downer, lol.....they will be beyond wretched this year, likely not win 1 game

I'd like to see Milton get all the snaps Friday night. He needs all he can get to continue his progression. I would also like to see Schotty and Adams challenge him to make every throw not just the safe ones. Last night was impressive. He has more upside/athletic ability than Howell. Just keep it going!

Howell has started many games in the NFL and the Cowboys know what he can/can't do at this point. So far I've been disappointed in his play. Being just ok isn't what I was expecting from an experienced vet with 18 starts.

Feel like he needs to sit, 2 qb is his, Howell should play the entire final preseason game, maybe we can use him as trade bait if the team isn’t keeping 3

I am a Dak fan and I am a Milton fan. Having another capable QB is never a bad thing. In fact I am hoping Milton is the future here because this team does not seem to have a Dak succession plan in place.

I like this idea. Play Howell the entire game next week. If he plays super well trade him for a day three pick or a player.

Of course that leaves Dallas in the market for a QB3 for their own practice squad.

I know it's just preseason but not sure any of us saw this coming (Milton and Howell's two game stats):

Joe Milton282175.028610.2310.700.07000142.9
Sam Howell221568.21597.214.514.539t1685.2

What I hope is our team isn't dumb enough(as they have been in the past) to never play the backup QBs in a real game to see what we have. We had to keep Trance an extra year while playing Rush in 2024. Beyond stupid. Those 8 games Rush started would've given us a clear pic as to what Trance was. Dumb beyond dumb.
