forget every thread you ever read about these two...Roy v Ed Reed

zrinkill;1311279 said:
Of course you would .... because for the last 2 years we have been getting burnt on long TD's

Now if we had Reed and this conservative D plan was letting people RUN all over us for 2 years we would have people saying

"man I wish we had that Roy Williams who plays for the Ravens .... that guy would not let Alexander run all over our defense"

 Cowboys fans are spoiled brats.

Ding freaking Ding.

If the Ravens had Roy williams they would be the scarriest defense ever.

Same goes for the Steelers.

Anyone who knows how to disguise things and has a pass rush instead of saying Roy line up 40 yards down field and good luck to you would turn him into the playmaker and absolutely dominant player he was coming out of college and at times has shown that he can be for us in the past.

Also people forget Parcells 1st year here Roy Williams finished 2nd in the league for Defensive Player of the year when they just GAVE it to Ray Lewis and that was the most aggresive we ever were with Roy.

when given facts they say, "apparently you don't watch the game, he always gets burned!!!" and expect us to believe it without proof.

when given facts they say, "he gave up sooo many TD's!!!"

when told that ed reed isn't much better in the "giving up TD's" department, they say, "nani nani nani i can't hear you, i have my thumb up my ears!"

when we object to their, "roy is 5000x worse than every other safety in the NFL" crap, they call us roy apologists.

So what are we, apologists, or are you haters?

well i know what you are. wrong. that and a person who alwayssss thinks hes right. roy is a liability in coverage if you cant see that your blind, roy did nothing in our playoff game (newman tipped it to him that was all newman) yet reed had two ints, should of had 3. roy has been missing tackles lately, which is supposed to be his big thing. come on, why are you always right and will stop at nothign to prove your right? can you ever be wrong?

So then you saw where he gave up about the same amount of TD's as all other safeties that are considered great, and yet you are unhappy? Maybe your standards are unrealistic?

well, to be fair, 'about the same' and the 'same' is not, well, the same thing.

My standards are unrealistic, sure. Roy was the 8th pick in the draft, was once the face of the franchise, and also considered for DROY & DPOY...It doesn't make me comfortable seeing this guy miss tackles, get stoned on blitzes and trailing TE's in the endzone.

I'm not hating Roy..Some of you guys want to defend him like he was your wife. I'm merely saying I'm disappointed with the way Roy played this season, particularly, the last half of the season.

We all know he's capable of more--and those of us who express dissatisfaction are perfectly justified.

i know your not talking to me. cause i have. and what does me stating a fact have anything to do with playing football.

Cause its not a fact .... Roy was playing the coverage he was designed to play .... alot of the times we see him "getting burned" is because he never gives up on a play whether its his man or not.

Earlier this year there was a play where the guy scored and everyone saw Roy chasing him when he got to the endzone ..... the whole game thread exploded about Roy getting burned "again" ....

The replay showed that he came of his man and got closest to stopping him .... the guy burnt Newman and Davis .... but Roy was the only one still chasing him.

exactly what fact would that be?

o yay bigD the brain. the fact that roy got burnt regularly this year. not even the great bigD can dissagree wtih the fact that roy is a liability in coverage, can he?

We didn't need Roy against the run.

How the heck do you know that? Maybe the front "4" got to the runner because the O-linemen was blocking Roy .....

Man you guys will say anything.

Thats a fair post, Yes Roy has had some bad lapses. He isnt perfect no SS is. But your post seems fair, most of us only defend him to the people who say he should be cut and is the worst safety blah blah blah.

We didn't need Roy against the run. Stopping the run was actually something our front 7 did well this year. We needed him to help us stop the big play, and to keep the TE from tearing up the middle of the field.

So when he wasn't a liability, he was just superfluous.

And yet we ran a cover 2 scheme all season which is designed to stop the big passes on the outside and it leaves holes in the middle of the field.

I'm not trying to excuse Roy's unacceptable coverage late in the season, but the scheme we were using certainly didn't help our LBers (Bradie James) and Roy Williams be able to stop giving up the same plays over and over again that was obviously a weakness in the defense.

I will disagree since its not a "fact" He was not a liability at all. Is he a great cover safety? No but he isnt a liability the stats prove that.

Thanks for the brain reference, obsession noted

Please, keep'em coming. I've been depressed since the game last weekend, but you're cheering me up.

Wow...YOU'RE the one who made this thread saying in such a matter of fact way:

Roy <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Ed Reed.

That's a lot of less than signs.

First of all, fix your "s" key.

So you're just going to the last game. Talk about a very selective memory.

And you're saying that I'M always right? If I were, I'd be GM. I'm not always right, but I'm right on this. Why does everything have to be in extremes with some of you posters. "Player X is the greatest! Player Y sucks!"

Yeah, Roy might not be better than Reed, and I don't think he is, but the posts coming from some of you that Roy can't do ANYTHING is just ludicrous.

"yet reed had 2, should've been 3."

. This is hilarious. When Roy dropped an INT, you all jumped all over him saying he has no hands. And when Reed doesn't get one, you say "oh darn, let's count it anyway!"

And this is complete "pot calling the kettle black". The Roy haters will go on to dismiss everything he does well, while exaggerating everything he does badly. Why can't YOU ever admit that you're wrong?
