Still, that wouldn't be good value for the Cowboys and I wouldn't accept that trade.

I think there is a good chance of trading down in round 1......but not all the way out.

:signmast:

Both of those are spot on.

wouldn't be surprised if the cowboys trade down.

With not a lot of great talent in the top of the draft.
It looks like this one is best in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Unless we could find or trade with San Francisco or Cincy... Then it could be done.

More are looking to trade down than up this year.

I doubt we would do a Clairborn type trade this year.

Various trade options that give Dallas extra picks:

Dallas' 18th pick...for Cincy's 21st, 118th, and 156th
Dallas' 18th pick...for Cincy's 37th and 53rd
Dallas' 47th pick...for Cincy's 53 and 118
Dallas' 18th pick...for Minny's 25th and 83rd
Dallas' 18th pick...for Houston's 27th, 89th, 124th, and 160th
Dallas' 80th pick...for SF's 93rd, 131st, and 173rd
Dallas' 18th pick...for SF's 31st, 61st, and maybe 246th

The last time we traded out of the first we ended up with the Williams' which was a horrible draft....

They traded out of the 2nd, not the 1st round. They had no first rounder.
Plus, that draft was weak in rounds 2-5, which is the opposite of this year.

If they trade with Cincy, then they should go for their first and a second for Dallas's first and third. That would give them three picks right in the sweet spot of the draft.

I would just as soon stay at 18 but much of that will also depend on who is on the board and what offer is being made for our pick at 18. With the unknown factor of the draft it is hard to make any serious predictions

Sure whatever. Like he is gonna let a presser there know what cards he iis holding for draft day. Get real.

If he moves down to the 2nd round, then everyone is gonna bring up the 2009 draft that was a total bust with all the picks they had in that draft.

It has been shown in the past that they passed on very good players at the picks that they had. There is no reason to believe that if they had a 1st or 2nd round pick that they would have made good picks there either.

Something was just off with the approach that year. They targeted 1 specific player, Max Unger, and when he was gone, they panicked and made some bad picks.

The year they drafted Spencer they traded out of the 1st and then back to a later spot in the 1st.

If there is not a guy at 18 who we fell is a starter for us, year one or a future All Pro, then I'm all for making a trade, such as this.

The chances of hitting on a starter are increased if you are able to pick multiple players in the 2nd round. It only makes sense. If you have guys at 18 who you rank as 2nd round guys anyway, then you may as well try and pick up picks.

You cannot compare 2009 at all. What it comes down to is that the scouting and the choices that were made in 2009 were not up to par. The scouting and actual people they choose this year are what matters, not whether or not they have traded up or down. Mistakes can be made whether you trade up, trade down, or stick with what you were given.
Let's pray that some quality scouting was done, and that our potential targets slip to us in whatever round we have targetted them.

Last time we stayed put at 18, we ended up with Bobby Carpenter. Crap. Now what?

Awesome.
And true.

Bottom line is you have to pick the right players wherever you draft.

With that propsed trade in the OP, Dallas trading thr 18th for the 37th and 53rd
IF Dallas picked the right polayers with those picks

They could have had Greg Jennings and Maurice Jones-Drew instead of Bobby Carpenter. LOL!

Hard to argue against that. Sign me up.

Who's going to break the news about what we've decided here to Jerry?

I think we are in a good spot in the teens. I would only trade down if we received an offer too good to refuse or if our nightmare scenario came true and we were SOL.

Trading back and acquiring more picks translates to a higher cap. We don't have a very good track record of trading back. On the flip side trading up seems to work in our favor more often then not. It is a deep draft but I would much rather stay in the first.

I realize that but Antonio Cromartie was taken the pick after, Leon Hall, Joe Flacco, and Maurice ? Pouncey was taken with the 18th pick in the years following. It's all about taking the right guy and we hit on some and lose on a lot more.

I could see trading back 3-7 spots, but I'm not a fan of completely trading out of round 1.

+1 unless you get a 1 back next year.
