From Julius Jones Himself: "He had me running like a robot"

Are you serious? You can't mess with a running back's instincts espeically when you've never played the position... Parcells is overbearing, the team suffered from that. He's stubborn and I'm actually glad a new breath of fresh air is in Dallas.

I agree with what you say and obviously what JJ is saying about a runner's instinct. I am wondering why I am the only person who remembers someone saying a few years back that Bill Parcells wants JJ to run more to how the play is designed rather than juking his way to miore yards (not actual words of course, but something to that effect).

So this only makes sense that JJ is coming out and saying it publicly, and yes he did look like a very different runner after his first year.

BP wanting the backs to follow the play, no matter what, is old news. His rants about negative plays always seemed over done to me. though some convienently seem to forget it quite often

This year Parcells often talked about lost yards with Julius. He ran the play right, but if he made a slightly different cut he could have had more yards. That is where instincts can make the difference. Parcells did not want him to ignore his instincts and just run toward one hole. He wants him to combine good instincts with good sound technique.

It is a two step process. First, you follow the design of the play. Second, you use instincts and skill to get the most out of the play. If you don't do the first part, there is no amount of cutting and dancing that will get you to consistantly gain yards. Bill has harped on that with both backs. If you don't do the second part you can gain yards, but not hit some bigger plays. Parcells mentioned that about Julius this year.

Do your talking on the field Julius.

A coach should NEVER mess with a RB's style.

My old HS coach used to tell our starting RB this during film, "Zack, I'm not gonna tell you how to run the ball but, why didnt you run through this f'ing hole (pointing to screen)."

This is very true, a RB's ability is based off quickness and vision but most importantly instincts.

You might call it an "excuse" but Spears along with others have made many comments about Parcells "over coaching" them.

Only time will tell guys, lets hope these comments from all the players are the truth and NOT excuses.

By the way, I love this... see sig :)

JJ will give us 1500 reasons to re-sgn him.

I am dissapointed in JJ for making excuses. A great runningback makes plays no matter what .....

What he is saying may be true ...... but he should have been man enough to say these things when Parcells was here .....
that would be smart, when he has Barber right on his heels. Welcome to BP's doghouse. I have said all along BP screwed him up. I have tape from his rookie year, remember the giants game! Parcells tried to make him another Curtis Martin. He is an instinctive runner who needs to use his vision. He would run where the play was developed with both hands wrapped around the ball, because he was afraid of fumbling" then come down at first contact because he has no balance with 2 hands on the ball. Well let's see how he plays this year, the handcuffs are off and let's see if he puts up. I feel this way with a couple of players on this team.

I wonder if BP turned the robot switch off against the Panthers in 05 only to turn it right back on against the Rams.

What a little weasel he is. JJ waits till Bill is out the door before stabbing him in the back. Very courageous. Funny how Barber doesn't run "robotically." What else is Bill supposedly responsible for? Post-WWII Communist aggression? Inflation? Disco? The mind boggles.

I wish Jones all da luck in the world this year, hope he has a HUGE year... So we can trade him for a 2nd rd pick next year and with out top 5 pick next year from da browns (PLEASE GOD!!!) draft McFadden!!! :D

It is incredible the way that the underachievers all come out of the woodwork to offer their hypothesis how one of the greatest football coaches ever just stifled their "game" and rendered them shells of their talented selves. It is nauseating and classless the way these players are behaving.

:laugh2:

No, that was the week he told Robo-Julius to take the week off because he really needed to win. Then the next week, he put the shock collar back on, because that is just the type of tyrant Coach Parcells was.

The worst you can say is that Bill questioned JJ's toughness in that pre-season game during his rookie year, when JJ voluntarily "tapped" out of the game. I have no idea what that has to do with running style, however.

I can just hear the excuses next offseason, after another disappointing year of Julius's mediocrity.

"Seriously guys, we NEED to resign him! It takes about a year for the coached up roboticness of his running style to go away! We will RUE THE DAY!!!!!"

Well then it is up to Jones to step up because his excuse is no longer here.

I guess Julius shot ALL OF YOUR "non-BP-factor" stuff out the window :laugh2:

:p:

And I just pray more then ever that cleveland stinks so Julius can blame another coach elsewhere.

I would love nothing more then for Julius to just break out and show everyone he was held back but I highly doubt that happens. If he was so confident that he could be the back he predicted he could be a couple of years ago, you would have seen a couple plays where he just did his thing to prove a point.
