They dog him out in their reports and disrespect him at the PCs. Why waste talking to them when you're not obligated by the league to do so?

Sorry, but that's just an occupational hazard in the NFL. Bill dealt with it by going on the offensive. Besides, I can't remember any controversies last year generated by Wade's press interviews, so there's no real need to shut him up or humiliate him in this fashion. The players on the other hand ...

You cant be the group that enables troubled players, welcomes in reality shows, hosts business meetings on the side of the field during practice, has the cheerleaders get off the plane first at training camp, has the cheerleaders reality show, allows almost all players to have radio/tv shows to say we are not talking to you.

To be fair to Jerry Jones, we fans eat up the radio shows and reality shows, etc. There is an audience for it like no other team. I really don't fault Jerry for taking advantage of his team's popularity. It's up to the players to do what they're paid to do on the field. Not one of them has complained about being on Hard Knocks and they certainly don't hesitate to have their own radio shows. I think a lot of the Cowboys like the attention. If I'm right, then it's their fault for not being able to function in an environment that they apparently enjoy. And look at other players who want to come here. They see the "circus" and they want to be a part of it.

One is the owner, one was the head coach.

The point being that Wade should be issuing the gag order to his assistants, not Jerry.

Bill was in charge of the team when he was here. Wade isn't even in charge of his own mouth these days.

Actually Jerry holds two titles: owner and GM. The GM oversees player personnel as well as head coach.

Do you really think Jerry threatened Wade with a "Wade, if you say one word, you're fired!" No way.

Like Hos said in another thread, I think Wade could talk if he wanted to. But this way he has an excuse -- "Sorry guys, Rich told me not to!" -- to not do something he probably didn't want to do anyway, which is talk to people who will do nothing but trash him anyway. You notice he's always smiling when he says he "can't" talk... It's not like he's seriously frightened and looking around for Jerry spies before he says it.

Just like with TO, you Wade haters overplay your hand sometimes. Is he a great head coach? No. Does he have his flaws? Yes. But when you blame him for things he doesn't have a hand in and use everything that happens as a reason to call him a doofus, clueless, etc. you really weaken your case.

He has to find ways around just saying 'Go **** yourself I have nothing to say because you are all idiots who bash me when I do say something'.

I see it as Wade using as a fallback comment. "My mommy won't let me do it." Knowing full well that Jerry would have no qualms about Wade speaking.

Bill dealt with it by being silent in the offseason, as well. And we heard the same frustration from reporters about how Bill won't talk. If I can ever figure out the advanced search, I could pull the same type of blogs, articles about Bill.

I wouldn't mind some kind of memo to the players. What do they really have to say at this point?

Please don't attempt to say that Bill Parcells would ever except a public gag order from Jerry Jones.

Jerry would never even bring it up.

Parcells talked when he was there to talk.

Wade was there to talk at the combine and wasn't allowed to do so.

My comments weren't about the gag order. It doesn't matter to me who dictated silence from the organization. I think it's a good thing. It's what I wanted from this offseason.

My comments were more about the silence factor and the fact that Parcells spent almost every offseason ignoring the media...senior bowl, combine, etc. And every offseason, the media reported (whined) that the big ol' mean Parcells won't talk to us. And then to top it off, if he did, it would be to his boy Francesca in NY.

Ok, so now Wade isn't talking to them. The spin is different, but the result is the same. Stay-puff, Cupcake, Marshmallow, etc is being neutered by Jerry cuz he won't talk to us.

Saying "Go **** yourself" to someone doesn't make you a man or a leader. Pretty sad that you think it does. But I think this is some of the, lets say, cultural bias that Wade faces from guys like you -- that the bigger the jerk you are, the more respectable you are, and the nicer you are, the weaker you are.

Also, no one said Wade was Gibbs, Noll, Parcells, or any of the other all-time greats you mentioned. But I do think Gibbs was closer to the way Wade is with the media than the way, say, Parcells was. Yes, treating Wade like a grown man and letting him enjoy the same rights as every other HC in the league is important. Jerry's paranoid policies--besides destroying morale--will not help us lure a quality successor, either.

No, he'd much rather be out and about making self-deprecating jokes, getting cheap laughs from the press corps and chuckling to himself. The gag order is not a matter of speculation. Wade admitted as much. By next week, all the Valley Ranch phones will be tapped. Again, who does business like this?

No one had to tell him, because he chose to ignore them. I believe Wade is doing that also. I think Wades hates doing pressers probably as much as Parcells liked them. Cuz make no mistake, he DID like them, even if he treated them like dirt in the offseason.
