I've never done it before, but time to drop HBO until next season. haha

I have thought about doing that. The last season of Boardwalk Empire starts in the Fall so I might renew or keep it until then, I don't think it gets enough credit for being really good.

They do some outstanding work, but so many of their other shows now have too many political undertones these days. I know, that's my problem, not theirs.

I have come to the point where I don't read newspapers, watch the news or have any interest in any of the political issues that is going on in world. I am fed up with it. The last thing that I want to do is turn on the TV for the purpose of entertainment , but have to put up with a political agenda being pushed into the plot of the show. If it is not politics, it is religion. I don't want either of them pushed into the plots with the lone purpose of pushing their ideals on me.

Word in April was that both season 5 and 6 have been given the green light.

They are doing a great job of maintaining the quality from season to season. At first, I thought it would be impossible to keep things going when one major character after another is killed off. They have done a great job of using the next man up approach. When one character is killed, another is developed and the show never misses a best. I thought the show would be short lived when Sean Bean and Mark Addy left the show. I was wrong. Sean Bean is one if my favorite actors, but the writing and character development has been so good that I haven't missed him. I am going to miss the Hound though. He was good for a laugh.

It will be fun to see how they do the shows for the last book (at least the last one to this date) as there are long stretches of the book that frankly bore me. You had some characters that you loved in it but had to weather through some boring chapters of what I would call background filler to get to their stories. Of course those background filler stories will come into play as the books/story advances but it was still slow sections of the book that really boring.

A good question to George RR Martin that I think about is how much will he let the show influence his writing of the last few books, it would seem impossible not to. With fan favorites and story lines that worked differently on tv, or characters that are well acted. Like how Bronn was a minor character in the books but worked well on the show, will he write in more stuff for him? Or when certain characters have good on screen chemistry (not naming names) will he figure out a way for them to be reunited in the books where he may not have? From now on he will have in the back of his mind "How will this work in the show?" even if it's slight, when he didn't have that before

Also related to that, it's great that there are still books to be written so the final details can never technically be spoiled. (even though there is a general idea of where it is headed.)

He said the show only affected 1 thing, how he see's Osha. He said he'd write her more like she is in the show (bit more nice/loving), but no, he already knows how it will end (so do the producers) so he can't change the big stuff like characters meeting, dying, stories changing, etc.

When you have been working on a story for 20 years, you don't just change it due to a tv/movie adaptation. And even less because you think it wouldn't work as well as the show.

The good thing about the show, is those chapters (especially Brienne's and some of the Ironborn ones) can be made much better on TV by changing her story a bit.

Did the hound still die?

Debatable. If memory serves they kind of hint he did but kind of left it open a little bit. And with this show/book you can never be completely sure if someone is dead...even when someone is dead they might come back to life one way or another.

Loved the episode to be honest.. but I was a little annoyed at the Brienne/Hound fight. She got him to his knees with a sword in his face way too easily.. Hound is one of the top fighters there is. Brienne is pretty baller herself but she made it look easy the first bout. Then when swords were dropped, hound should have had an even bigger advantage.. ah well.

Have to remember that he has the infection still going from the bite earlier so was not 100% and still gave her a good fight.

Yep, and Brienne beat the Knight of Flowers so she's no slouch for sure.

Neh. I shouldn't have to make up reasons for it to happen. They should have referenced it, and I woulda been ok with it.

The common viewer just sees Brienne woop the Hound twice. Sword vs Sword, then hand to hand.

Kind of like back when Brienne wooped the snot out of Jaime without trying back in Season 3, even though in the book it was a much closer fight, even with him being shackled/weak.

<3 Brienne but the show makes her out to be a far superior fighting than she is in the books. Then again they've done that since season 2, having her off people with no issues, when in the books she didn't kill her first person until book 4, and it was a big deal for her. She then gets wooped by Rorge/Biter.

It's nitpicking. The fight was really well choreographed, and I actually did enjoy it. Would have been completely fine with it if they had tossed a line in there about Hound having a fever or something from the bite. Don't know why you do the bite at all and then make a deal about not burning it if it's not going to be used as a plot device later.

Probably because it is a given

As a an extremely nitpicky book reader I thought the fight was fantastic. My one and only problem with the finale was the lack of "her". Time is most certainly running out on showing "her" and it having an actual impact on viewers. Oh well Ive read all the articles on why they excluded the scene and I disagree with them.

It would have been an extra wow factor no doubt. But there were enough wow factors in the last few episodes so I can leave with it starting next season.
