Thus my beef with Garrett is that he lets Jerry run roughshod over him. His the coach and should stand up to being a coach - whether Jerry likes it our not. If Garrett has to tell Jerry to lay off and let him coach than the more I give him respect. Thats the only way to contain Jerry really. But Garrett doesn't do that. He does what he wants with the team. Can you blame alot on this on Jerry? Of course! But Garrett is in a position right now to right the ship. If he can only stand up to Jerry and tell him to back off then the more power to him. In fact, I want I really do wish Garrett can put Jerry in his place for once and tell it as it is. But Garrett is too nice of a guy and too diplomatic. Thus Jerry does as he pleases because he can get away with it.

so which coach has stood up to jerry?

Neither Shanahan nor Parcells had a legitimate QB the time they were here . Parcell, when he got him, got to the playoffs. Shanny, when he got RG3 and got decent QB play got there. Garrett can't get there with Romo. And Wade got to the playoffs twice in four years in the same circumstances.

garrett inherited a team that was 1-7. and he has had to deal with 25+ ranked defenses...... and wade took a talented team, left it in shambles and ended up 1-7...awesome, lets bring him back. lets make sure the arrow always points downwards...wade should have won a superbowl or two with those teams.

I thought Kiffen was tied to Garrett in Tampa. I guess Garrett was forced to hire his own brother. The last WR catch, oh yeah Jerry forced that on him. I guess Hudson Houck was also forced on Jason, though not only did he play under him, Garrett coached with him in Miami. I guess when Dan Reeves was suppose to come in to correct Garrett and his running game and blocking schemes, it was Jerry that said no, only for Jason to get his way with Callahan, only to be removed as play/caller for Limehan cause Jerry wants to interfere with Garrett again. I though Garrett was changing the culture of the Cowboys with RKG. Everyone was telling me Sean Le and other guys were example of Garrett moves to rid this roster of garbage. Before his latest failure, I was told Jason finally had cleaned up the dead weight on the roster.

Got to love how the story is always written for Garrett being hamstrung after he keeps failing.

so I guess garrett has been the puppet master in all of this...ok, ahem..sure thing

Right. I'm just going off what's logical or whether or not an argument is valid or is directly refutable by measurable observable facts.

And, as I've said, there's plenty of reasonable criticism that can be directed at this team and this organization.

No, your just shooting off your opinion.

Cut the BS... Garrett inherited a team that was having a bad year, but also won a playoff game and made the playoffs another year. Funny how Garrett keeps getting all these excuses about not being able to win because of the organization, but Wade should have won the SB in that same organization. Especially the year Jerry decided to bring back that genius Dave Campo as secondary coach.

Guess what.. Wade left and our defense gets worse every year. On offense, we haven't made any progress so Garrett gets demoted. So whose fault is it that Garrett has such crappy defenses?

Nice comeback. There is a difference between being a puppet master and acting like Jerry is hamstringing Garrett. Hell, I didn't even speak about Judd Garrett in personnel and Father Garrett as Jerry's trusted advisor.. Garrett has run out if excuses cause he sucks. It Ain't because he's hamstrung.

so which coach has stood up to jerry?

Parcells stood up to Jerry. He got rid of people playing Dominos which included Emmitt- Jerry was against it. Parcells got Flozelle Adams signed while Jerry wanted to dump him. Parcells switched this team to a 3-4 defense and got us drafting a passrushing OLB. Parcells changed the philosophy of this team to think nothing but football - while Jerry was okay in having the ranch run like a circus. You may not want to believe it but Parcells made this ship going in the right direction. Dumped Bledsoe for Romo, drafted Witten, and brought him his style of football and his people to change the entire system in Dallas. Not everyone liked Parcells, but when it came to results, he has by far been the best coach we have had since Jimmy left. Right now, I would take Parcells back and let him run things the way he sees fit. I can almost guarantee that he'll do a better job than Garrett has done in the 3 years his been coach.

Like what Khaladi pointed out the Cowboys was having a bad year. Romo broke his ribs and other things were going on with the team. But the year previous to that we were a playoff team and that is something you can't deny. Garrett inherited a playoff team that was having issues. Didn't do much to improve the team and in fact, he brought it to mediocrity.

All of which, while true, is only an argument for tenure making coaches better. I'm not sure it does. Harbaugh's a really good coach, though it might just be that he's better than Garrett--if he is--because he's a better coach. I think the argument that Jason Garrett lacks experience to be a head coach in this league is old at this point, 3 and a half years into his head coaching career, and was never very good to begin with. They guy had success at each level of his coaching career as measured by the interest levels of NFL teams (Cowboys included) and came up the ladder fast by virtue of his hard work, intelligence, 15 year career in the league at the most cerebral position on the field, and his coaching/scouting pedigree. It's really not that unusual, and it's really not been an issue for him in Dallas. The only issue has been he coaches for an owner who yanks assistants around and says dumb things in the press occasionally. Other than that, JG had to learn how to manage games properly early on, and he has the same sorts of mistakes that almost every other HC of his tenure makes across the league.

We blow it up in Dallas because it's an easy way to belittle the HC by pretending he's a trainee.

I agree with you to some degree. However, the bad part about Garrett is that he has learned from his mistakes. He makes the same ones over and over. All coaches makes mistakes, even the great ones. However, they learn through their mistakes and actually learned how to game plan around those mistakes. As with Garrett, its the same decisions that we are used to seeing each and every year that his been here. He seems to be too overly cautious to the point that he would rather NOT MAKE DECISION rather than making a decision and screwing up. There is a stat that shows he hardly went for it on 4th downs. When you have a bad defense and you know that we are scorched easily, why do you punt or take those long, field goals that have a low percentage of making? That is the problem with Garrett. He does not change things even though they are mistakes. He is not a risk-taker and plays NOT TO LOSE almost all the time.

Garrett needs to have a killer instinct if he wants to be a great coach. Drop the RKG crap and focus on WINNING AT ALL COST approach is what he needs. So far, he just does not have that. That will be his downfall. Not learning from his mistakes and using the same old sorry excuse that his learning how to coach. Secondly, not willing to make the tough decisions in a game in order to allow the team to win.

If you still like him fine. But right now, we need someone that can make the tough decisions and focus on winning. Garrett is not it. This team needs a coach badly with the traits that I mentioned.

Please, he can't do that because He knows the only reason why he still has a job is because of Jerry. Just as Jerry is loyal to players that need to be let go years prior, the same is the case for Garrett. He's looking for every excuse to keep him.

Well Garrett really needs to grow a set of balls and challenge Jerry even though it means being fired. Honestly, I would confront Jerry behind close doors to put him in his place. But Garrett is way too chicken to do that. He knows that Jerry signs his paycheck and thus he is nothing more than a puppet to what Jerry wants.

Thus I yearn for the days we have a coach that can put Jerry in his place like what Jimmy used to do. Its the only way this team will succeed.

ravens won the playoffs. then missed it. bengals went to three straight playoffs and haven't won one yet. Houston went from a playoff and superbowl contender to the top pick.

what does one year have to do with another. wade's history as been three timse over, he takes over a team, the team improves slightly the first year an starts to go downhill very quickly. that's what happened to the cowboys. Wade's team's weren't prepared. the team wade inherited was Parcell's team. disciplined, and with good load o talent. they exceeded expectations that first year. more like KC did this year. then they lost in the playoffs. they started to go down hill quickly after that and the team quit on wade finally and Jerry had to take action.

our team got worse every year when wade was here. not just th defense. we had some of the worst drafts and FA signings, Coachin hires under wade (same things you are holdin Garrett Accounta be for).

Jerry has and is hamstringing every coach since Johnson. why put Garrett in different corner? you indicated that every move made, has been the master plan of Garrett. which is far from the truth. deal with that reality. and hiring relatives in football is not unusual. you act as if this was ground breaking thing that garrett did. and regarding your comments about his father, now you are acting like a gossip columnist as opposed to an objective critic......so in your opinion Wade Sucked. Parcells Sucked. Gaily Sucked. Campo Sucked. Switzer half suckd because he won a suprbowl, then again everyone keeps saying it was despite switzer, because it was Johnson's team.

yes he did and then parcells couldn't take it any more. Jerry by year 3 and 4 started to meddle and parcel left. I for one absolutely thought that parcells was the best coach cowboys had since Johnson. exactly what cowboy needed. and appreciated what he did for us. but at he end. even parcells lost to ever meddling Jerry.

garrett inherited a team that was in shambles. 1-7. so if Garrett inherited a team that was a playoff team. so did wade, with much more talent and wade managed to lose the best opportunity, of being he top seed. people use anything to win an argument. are you guys seriously using Wade the constant failure as defense of your opinions!!! wade the loser Phillips!!! I will never forgive wade for what he did to this team. he took a highly disciplined and football minded team. made them soft. allowed players to make it into a spa, for gawd's sake he had zero contact practices all the time...zero contact in two months during the season!!! jeez folks. you have to com up with something better than wade Phillips.....because I don' have to prove how much wade Phillips sucked. his record of him screwing up teams over and over speaks for itself.

The problem with that is he has no grounds to stand on. Jerry had given him incredible leeway in his tenure here. No owner in their right mind would keep demoting a HC in such a manner, unless they have a personal interest in him. He would have been fired, like Gailey or Campo. What can Garrett say? Jerry can say, I gave you Dan Reeves, but you refused and you continued to suck for three years with the running and blocking game.

There us nobody more disciplined than Dan Reeves as a coach. Garrett can't touch his jock. This is the guy "Coach Cupcake" wanted as a consultant, whom Garrett refused, meaning the idea that Wade wanted chaos and a circus is absurd. As he made clear, they needed to control the TOP with better running and reduce TO risk. These exact same problems were the very reason Garrett had his play-calling stripped away.

The problem is, if anybody was hamstrung it was Wade.

Garrett inherited a team he helped build.

so the question we ask was wade responsible for building the team? as everyone is saying Garrett is responsible for building this team.

we can't flip flop for convenience of argument. garrett was responsible for building wade's teams, and he is responsible for building this team. its just that I want to blame garrett, so anything he has ever been related to I am going to throw into the argument to make my case.

wade had a lot to do with failure of the previous team. he inherited a very good team, deep and talented and disciplined and he proceeded to take it apart systematically because of his ineptitude. one could make the argument that if it wasn't for garrett, it would have been much quicker and much worse. I mean, seriously who goes without contact practices for 2 months in the middle of the season, and cut contacts in half in preseason!!!!
