Garrett as a lameduck

LOL at still parrotting this roster turnover crap. Go look and see what the Colts have done while Ginger has been watching the town catch fire. The roster turnover excuse only points the finger at the talent gatherers not having a clue what they are doing because plenty of playoff teams have had just as much or more.

Well, the Colts example is a dumb on, for obvious reasons. But I honestly have no idea how our roster turnover compares to other teams--good or bad- across the league. I'm only guessing based on the fact that Garrett likes to churn the bottom of the roster regularly, and because we did so much specific DL churning last year. But we can agree to disagree as to whether or not the idea of roster churning is 'crap' or an excuse. And why not? We disagree on just about every other single factor regarding this team and our recent performance.

This is just so adorable. Pete Carroll and the Seahawks churn the bottom of the roster. Jason Garrett does not.

I think most of us can agree that his biggest strength is being a motivator. He seems to be a leader of men. He seems to have intangibles that haven't translated to success on the field. Now, going in to the season, he is a lame duck. He's on his final year of his deal.

How will this affect his status in the locker room? We he command as much respect when the players know he might not be back next season? Let's say the team is halfway through the season at 4-4. Will he still be able to motivate them?

What success will he need to get an extension? If they start off hot, going 4-0, will Jerry reup him right away? If the team manages to win a playoff game, will Garrett stay?

Can't see Garrett leaving.

Sorry folks.

Jerrah has decided that he isn't going to continue rebuilding every 3-4 years.

He wants to take Garrett and give him every opportunity to succeed.

Garrett inherited a poor team that wasn't winning and had below average talent.

Jerrah has grown weary of hiring the Parcells icon at steep costs...

Parcells was rumored to be making upwards of 8 mil when he left.

That's a lot of payola.

He can get the same results from Garrett at $3mil per year and spend the other $5mil hiring coaches like Linehan, Callahan and Marinelli.

I'm sorry..but this makes enormous sense to me.

Gone are the days for the most part of the Andy Reid's or Mike Holmgrens who are the GM and HC.

So while it's fun to speculate and entertaining to entertain everybody with wild theories..

you will be missing tthe point of what Jerrah wants and is holding out for..

In Jerrahs eyes..Garrett is the next Tom Landry.

Garrett is in his early years as a HC and he's had his problems..

..but failing a complete failure..

Garrett stays and stays awhile..

Nice find....................the idea that we have had so much roster turnover and other teams have not and that in some way gives Garrett a pass is laughable.

The excuses for Garrett are getting weaker and weaker by the day, its almost comical at this point.

It is actually a good find. Don't know where Dallas actually ranks, but obviously they're not in the top ten, as I said I would have guessed. I'm not moving goalposts, as you suggest, as it's not my style. I'm ok with my guess being wrong, and I still think the roster churning is a good idea.

For anybody interested, he chart's from an article published in January of this year.

And this is just ridiculous. The *excuses* are in direct response to unending weak criticisms. Actual relevant criticisms hardly get debated because nobody disagrees. It's the made up drama and the hyperbolic over reactions that people object to.

I guess it all depends on who is defining the criticisms as "relevant" or "ridiculous".

I am sure some criticisms sound "ridiculous" to some posters while those very same criticisms sound "relevant" to other posters and vice versa.

No surprise that those that support Garrett tend to see more criticisms as "ridiculous" while those that are not enamored with him tend to see more criticisms as "relevant".

This is fair. And I'm not saying there aren't relevant criticisms of the guy. Only that there are so many criticisms of him, that not all of them are likely to be fair.

That's why he's here and that's also why you can't judge him as a head coach while he's here.

Actually the fact he is in Dallas working for a certified maniac tells he a lot about his character.

It tells me he always wanted to be the head coach in Dallas and he's trying to make it work with Jerry. If he had no past connections here I would agree with you.

Truth comes out. RT @tom_orsborn: Jerry: "Jason was really the offensive coordinator last year...He was really predominant in the red zone."

An offensive head coach should essentially be the offensive coordinator if that's what he wants to do. I have no issue with it.

I also have no issue with the offense.

Your ok with them neglecting the running game in games over the years?

I think that's way overblown and exaggerated. Most of those years they had a pathetic crap offensive line. I didn't want them to run it either.

But I am okay with an offense that consistently ranks in the top half of the league during Garrett's tenure.
