Garrett: More Cole Beasley outside

Haha Beasley was terrible last year and it wasn't because he was doubled all the time which is a false statement. It's an excuse to make a fan favorite look like he is great when in reality Beasley is just a decent slot receiver. His routes weren't crisp, he dropped passes. Much more went into it than "he was doubled all the time"

If you think other teams are going to double cover a “terrible” slot receiver you have absolutely zero idea of the game of football. And yes other teams doubled him *a lot*.

It was repeatedly talked about how defenses doubled him. It’s easy to spot on film again and again.

For whatever reason you seem to have a bias against the kid that causes you to overlook the facts.

Welker is 5 pounds heavier (according to Wiki).

Amendola is 10 pounds bigger but three inches taller, hence my comment about being slightly built.

Point being, you can’t say slightly built, slot recievers absolutely can’t have any success on the outside. It remains to be seen with Cole, but there is some precedent for it.

Check pro football red.

He's the smallest of the bunch. And you are comparing him to far more accomplished reviewers.

But sure. Being smaller means he can do it because other guys have. Most WR really take off at 29

I agree with you with sometimes it would be an interesting wrinkle in the offense. But Cole to my understanding has been starting outside.

Well, again, it's worth experimenting in TC and Preseason. This is the time to be experimenting new ideas (such as an idea I had this offseason of practicing dropkicks with the special teams) along with setting the agenda for the season.

I never said he was a terrible slot receiver. I'm fact I said he is a decent slot receiver. Since you can't comprehend I will help you........I said he was terrible last year and he was. Never said he wasn't doubled I said he wasn't doubled all the time and as much as some hype him up to be.

Perhaps I have a bias towards Beasley cause he is the most overrated player on the team, period. A ton of fans love him and make more excuses than is warranted. Slice it however you want but like most of the receivers last season, Beasley regressed and that's just facts.

I'm willing to wait and see how it pans out if he can do it fine. Maybe the opportunity didn't present itself because of the lack of flexibility of the personnel at that time. No need to shoot the clay pigeon before you call pull. It's not very sporting.

Beas had one of the highest catch rates in football in 2016. His catches went for over 600 yards, above average for a slot receiver. Last year opposing defenses identified him as a guy they feared most, and applied bracket, sometimes double coverage. A top NFL corner (Fuller) called Beez the league’s toughest cover.

So Cole has no “take off” required. He took off a long time ago. Can he take some of that game outside? We simply don’t know, and despite my previous skepticism I’m eager to find out.

I’ve previously predicted Beez to have around 500 yards, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he had 850.

“Being smaller means he can do it because other guys have.”

Never said that. Merely pointed out that being smaller doesn’t mean he absolutely can’t do it. Not that big a deal, bro.

You’ve made this claim before—that Cole is too hyped. Who on this thread has over hyped Cole? Who has ever said he’s an elite NFL receiver, a pro bowl candidate or anything of the sort? Name one poster that has said *anything* like that...ever.

Or are you just being resentful because of Dez?

Please. That was your argument.

Omg. Highest catch rates in 2017!

He caught 36 balls.

Oh wait. You clearly don't even know what year it is

Anyway...we’ve got to get big action out of Hurns or Gallup. Whether Cole is solely slot or exclusive slot...If our offense is going to thrive...someone else needs to lead the team in catches.

Your right. I mistakenly wrote ‘17 when I meant to say 2016. It is already corrected, but congratulations.

I can tell you have no clue what you're talking about. Perhaps you should be in game threads last year and you would have seen what I said about Dez.

For the record: Cole was the 5th ranked WR in 2016 by ProFootBall Focus.

Of receivers w/50 passes or more...he had the #1 catch rate in the league - 77%. 844 yards.

I’m sure not saying he’s 5th best...nor near it...but those are his 2016 numbers and his statistical ranking. It looks like the league took notice and starting sending extra attention his way in ‘17.

You didn’t answer my question. You’ve repeatedly said Cole gets over-hyped. I asked you for names of posters that have over-hyped him. If you don’t have that...what were some of the claims made about it him that you felt were over the top?

Ok I will give you a name. You......... Is that good enough for you or are you going to continue to prove my point

If I’m your singular candidate that has rubbed you so wrong...surely you can point out statements I’ve made that are “hype”.

For review...in the thread I created, “the Boxing of Beasley” I made these statements:
-This will be his last year w/the Boys
-He will catch 500-600 yards In ‘18
-He won’t work outside

But the thread is available for your harvesting. What have I said that gives you indigestion?

I do remember you posting in that thread that you couldn’t wait for Beez to be off the team. Hmmmmmmmmm.....
