If Romo and Dak = 8 wins, I guess Payton's contribution during the Saints last three 7-9 seasons has been -1 wins?

Regardless of how some feel I do believe Garrett can lead this team to a SB. He took heat after the 2015 season, losing after Romo went down and deservedly so. 2016 the team starts the season with Romo down once again and a rookie QB leading the way and put up a great season despite all the predictions of not having a chance. I think you can look at certain games and disagree with the game plan of a HC like Parcells in the playoffs vs the Seahawks who came into the game with a depleted secondary yet BP had the Cowboys trying to run the ball for much of the game never really attacking a weak spot of the Seahawks. I disagreed with BP on this but did not change my view of him as a HC.

HC will catch heat after losing a game no matter who you are, I lived to see 2 times in Landry career where fans wanted him fired. Believe me not comparing Garrett to BP or Landry only pointing out fans perceptions of a HC. I think it is easy to coach from the living room couch much different leading 53 men and the constant distraction that take place over the course of a season

You’re sticking up for a guy that tried to be condescending when I talked about the playcalling over the years with Garrett as the head coach with his ‘shaking my head’ reply. I then showed that every coach has a role in the playcalling on both sides of the ball as they are part of the gameplan and talk to their play callers and influence the direction of their play calling. Furthermore, that Linehan has always been a heavy pass oriented coordinator/play caller in every single season he has been the O-Coordinator with every single team (Vikings, Rams and Lions). Then he comes here in 2014 and we are running the ball 75% of the time on first down after Garrett had repeatedly stated he wanted to establish the run and become a ‘physical offense.’

I get an attitude when dealing with people that try to be condescending and are clueless as to what they are talking about. Just like I get an attitude with people like yourself that clearly live in a glass house and cast boulders because virtually none of your post ever discuss anything of merit.

YR

Garrett finally did start talking about running the ball. But that was after he ruined Wades tenure here, and screwed up by being pass happy the first 6 years he was here. Anyone with half a brain could see that running was important. Its football 101. So Garrett finally got it? Wow, what an amazing revelation for the ivy league genius. ANOTHER reason why Garrett simply had no business coaching here when they hired him.

And comparing Garrett to Linehan as a offensive mind is pretty embarrassing. Garrett is like a high school coach playing at NFL head coaching. Linehan has been a head coach, OC long before Garrett was in the league.

IMO, his strengths are talent evaluating and keeping the team focused. He's a Monday-Saturday guy.

I just don't feel like Dallas embraces the chess side of football and they rely solely on fundamentals and talent on both sides of the ball and I don't think you can get away with that in the salary cap era where teams are pretty similar.

Coaching and QB play are what separates teams and I just think we are way to conservative with our playcalling and guys like Dez disappear for long stretches because of it.

Talent evaluation? That is laughable. We can all recall Garrett lobbying for Felix Jones in the war room. We can all recall buys like Murray rotting on the bench while Garrett started Tashard Choice. Im baffled by your claim. Please explain how Garrett is such a great talent evaluator.

Guys have to get injured before they get discovered in Dallas. Dak is another one.

LOL........at least Idgit likes this.

The point is not whether we can actually win a SB with Garrett if we assemble enough talent and keep his hands of the game day management. The point is how many SB's would we win if we had a top line, head coach here in Dallas? Opportunity cost. You keep a guy around for 20 years and every dog may have his day.

This. I think Garret has two years.

Most coaches not named Belichick have about two years at any point in time. Two years is a lifetime in the NFL.

It all depends what happens with the defense. If it gets better, the team gets better, and the W/L column will continue to improve. With a better bass defense, we'll be able to do to good teams what we currently do to bad and mediocre teams and wear them down later in games. That's the obvious plan. It makes sense. More importantly, it's doable if they make the right calls with the defensive talent.

I want Garrett to win, don't get me wrong. Let see how far we get in the playoffs this year.

The SEA playoff game is a great example. That was an awful plan we had going into that game, but Parcels was still a good coach. He was famous for not trusting players he hadn't worked with a lot, and he slowed things down too much instead of capitalizing on a seriously compromised secondary.

Garrett's that way a lot, too. If he trusts his team, he actually isn't afraid to call some really aggressive plays. We saw that down the stretch a lot in 2014 on short down/distance runs. But if he's not sure about his personnel, he plays not to make mistakes. And that sometimes gets you beat. When you win, fans just think you were only in that situation in the first place because you weren't more aggressive earlier. When you lose, it's because you were too conservative.

I'm curious to see what (finally) improving the talent on defense does to how we call games. If we get that swagger we have on offense on the other side of the ball, I think we're going to see a much more aggressive coaching staff. It's hard to say, though, because we've been so far from having swaggerable talent on defense the last ten years. It sucks.

I'm sure. I'm just saying it's a year to year gig in the NFL. You might get a flier on a year like 2015, when the offense gets gutted with injuries and FA losses, but those don't happen often.

He's built a team that needs to compete, starting now. There's really no excuse for not having double-digit wins and to start beating playoff teams with the current roster. At the same time, we can be honest enough with ourselves to look back on those 2011-2012 teams and realize that they weren't very solid from top to bottom. Go back and look at who we were playing with and tell me 8-8 was underperforming. It really did take time to overhaul the roster and build a competitor.

I think most of BP teams have been fairly conservative on offense and very strong on defense. NY Giants were not an offensive explosive team, it was LT and the NY defense that killed opposing teams and in keeping scores down his offense did not have to be Air Parcells. lol For some coaches it is not about how many big plays you make it is about making the fewest mistakes and not beating yourself.

It really is about avoiding mistakes. It's boring, but I totally get that. Then, once you avoid the mistakes, it's how many big plays can you make? Ie, taking advantage of the other guy's mistakes. Both of those things are more important than scheme or play calling, and it's very hard to do to get a team to a point where they don't make critical mistakes.

It's why Belichick is so impressive. They've locked down the culture there in NE and just don't have guys who make a lot of knuckle headed plays. They're QB is one of the best ever, and he takes advantage of whatever it is you give him. And then he starts with putting you in positions where you can't really do what you like to do most. That gets you making mistakes you don't otherwise make. How he does that, though, without his own guys making mistakes is what's so impressive. He's just the best ever. It's a shame he also cheats, because you just want to appreciate how damn good he is, but you really can't because of the disregard he shows for the game.

You have to be joking. Garrett is famous for abandoning the run. He is also famous for having his teams ill prepared and being behind early in big games. Then there is the clock management issues.

And time had passed Parcells by when he was coach here. Horrible example.

We run at a higher rate than any other team in the league. At least try to keep the made-up criticism map to something that actually happens. It's not that hard.

And the SEA playoff example is a great example of a good coaching having a bad game plan. The fact that time passes has nothing whatsoever to do with the topic Dooms and I happen to be talking about here, so that criticism makes no sense.

What does that have to do with Garrett abandoning the run or panicking with clock management in big games? How about you actually keep up with the conversation in your made up love fest for Garrett?

Parcells won superbowls. So how is comparing a guy that never has, that constantly screws up to a guy like that? You dont even make sense when it comes to Garrett.

So you are saying that Garrett has done some GOOD things as coach? LOL

Wake me up when he does anything great. Be careful, your low standards are showing again.

This isn't an interesting conversation, so I'm not going to have it. You can noodle out on your own why I think criticizing a team that runs the ball at a higher rate than any other team in the league for 'abandoning the run' is a baseless criticism.

Garrett has been HC for 6 full season (58-46) , I watched this other HC who had gone 41-55 in his 1st 6 full season as a HC. Funny thing is today most consider him the top HC in the NFL
The HC is none other than Bill Belichick. Way I see it coaches are graded on winning and losing, yet the full story has yet to be written in Jason Garrett case. If he is able to string together several winning season and championships along the way the perceptions and view points will change in some peoples minds. For others they would rather cut off their nose to spite their face before they will give any credit.

I guess you just dont read so well.

I said NOTHING about the Cowboys NOT running the ball currently a lot. Its about him abandoning the run in the past and also in big games like how he chose to get cute and pass on short yardage in the GB game this year. We got down by 3 scores did we not early in the game? Partially because we came out flat and decided NOT to pound the ball. A Garrett team trait in big games and often in the past when he WOULD abandon the run. NO NOT RECENTLY IN THE REGULAR SEASON.

If you need further clarification, let me know and I will be more than happy to help you out.
