This whole thing sucks.

Favre is going to win no matter what because he will be playing football next year.

The Packers are going to lose no matter what because they are telling Favre he isn't the starting QB anymore.

Very weird situation.

What makes this so screwed is that the Packers took Aaron Rodgers so long ago thinking the Favre retirement was coming earlier. The reason why they want to commit to Rodgers is that he can go FA soon and they need to see what he's got before dropping a huge deal on him.

I honestly think that Favre could play another 4-5 years.

i would love to see favre come back as a backup......rodgers gets knocked out of the game.....and favre acts like he is going to run onto the field, but just keeps running to the lockerroom and doesn't come back.

I hate Favre and I hate the Packers....so I am loving this soap opera.

I'm just happy NFL Live and Total Access stopped talking about Adam Jones every day since this story broke.

Interesting bluff on the part of the Packers.

It's being done to test Favre's resolve in returning in the hopes that he'll walk away again and the Packers won't be forced to cut him and see him help Minnesota win the division.

Anyone actually think they'll follow through on making their team's all-time greatest player be a $12 million a year disgruntled backup?

Not me.

All that GB has to do is trade Farve's butt to a crappy team that has no way of winning this year, that will stick it to him. Farve is good but not that good.

Wow, so much hate for Favre around these parts. He's one of the very few players without a star on his helmet who I truly like. To me, he represents everything that is good about the game.

We're not talking about Steve Young here, guys. We've owned Favre his entire career. If we beat the Panthers in 1996, we probably own Favre again and repeat as Superbowl champions.

At any rate, I just think Brett is confused. I can't imagine him playing in another uniform. And as for Aaron Rodgers, if you listened to Bobby Carpenter on ESPN News today, the reason he had so much success is because the defensive game plan was for Favre. I'm thinking he will be a bust come September.

I like Farve but he is acting like a complete moron. He is doing this because he didn't get what he wanted in Moss last year and they didn't do much at all to get him weapons on offense this year, so Farve took his ball home like a baby.

MOOCH: “BRETT IS GETTING READY TO PLAY”
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 11, 2008, 8:06 p.m. EDT
Steve Mariucci, the former 49ers and Lions head coach who has a close relationship with Brett Favre from their days together in Green Bay, said today that Favre is getting ready for the 2008 season.

On NFL Network’s NFL Total Access, Mariucci said he talked to Favre for about an hour today, and “Brett is getting ready to play again. He’s feeling different than he did when we all saw him at his press conference in March where he was very emotional, very burnt out, very tired and seeming like that was going to be it.”

Asked if Favre would play for a team other than the Packers, Mariucci said, “The answer is yes, if he can’t play for the Packers. If they will not have him in Green Bay and he wants to play and he’s ready and able to play, yes he would consider playing for someone else. As hard as I think that is to imagine, I think the answer is yes, he would consider playing for someone else if it’s not going to happen in Green Bay.”

Mariucci said “there’s been a little lack of communication between Favre’s camp and the Packers organization,” and he suggested that Favre hasn’t been happy with a perception that the Packers want to move forward without him.

Mariucci’s appearance on Total Access can be viewed here.

He has Jennings......that kid is awesome. I wish we had him as our #2 WR opposite TO....we would have 3 1000 yd receivers (Witten included).

What happens if the Packers trade Farve to the Jets, say for a 3rd rounder, in turn the jets resign him to a 2 year $100 million contract , then waive him, so no one can pick him up off waivers. then he signs with the bears....i would die laughing....

PS... I know that wont happen but would die laughing

Ted Thompson will not release Favre. And Favre will never play for the Packers again. Thompson is in chage of all football decisions and has the backing of the Board of Directors. Ted Thompson will trade Favre to a team not in the North Division. Watch for him to end up in Baltimore or maybe Miami or Tampa. Trading him to Tampa is remote because that would free Jeff Garcia to go to Minnesota, and Ted won't do anything that will help his rivals. An old Garcia is still an improvement over Tavarias Jackson.

Brett had the opportunity to come back AFTER his retirement press conference and again decided he didnt want to. The GM has moved on, the coach has moved on, the players have moved on and 95% of the fans have moved on.

Brett screwed himself out of the deal. The Packers did not do anything wrong in the process.

How do you see both sides? I retire. No I don't. I'm sorry, yes I do. It's like getting left at the alter and then she changes her mind and you reschedule the marriage and then she doesn’t show up again, and then calls and say I'm sorry, let's get married.

This is so immature of Brett. If he was a real team player, he would let them move on. But his not! His is a selfish S.O.B.!

Enough said!

Players retire and change their mind a lot. And we aren't even hearing the official behind the scenes stuff that has certainly been going on. If Aikman had actually unretired one of the two times he had serious talks about getting back on the field then maybe you'd be a little more compassionate. I see that side and I see the side of GB not wanting him to really come back and screw up Rodgers and the rest of the team. I'm betting GB doesn't want him back big time and haven't since the March II talks.

But whatever, people all over the world deserve to be able to work if they want to. Sure I see Favre's grandiosity. I also understand that royalty is treated differently in the sports world esp still football. Used to be that way for all "champions" and "larger than life figures" esp in baseball, basketball, yada. Just think of Jordan's comings and goings.

Complicated but not terrible. I understand why people are pissed at Favre but I don't think its terribly well thought out. Smack.

.. but does anyone else suspect that his original retirement announcement was one big ruse to get away from the Packers? After all, he's asked for his release, not to be welcomed back by his old team and the legions of fans who adore him. Sounds fishy.

it's just that aging athletes have too much media accees, by God, any thought pops in their head, and they're calling for a press conference

Junior Seau: "hmmm, I'd like to retire, but I'm not sure, but I'll tell everyone that I was thinking about it, and do it" lol, it's stupid

So the Packers will eat his salary just to make sure he doesn't play elsewhere but at the same time they wouldn't just welcome him back to play when he is clearly capable of getting it done?

"Oh, we will eat the cost of having you on the roster but only to piss you off".

Can't say that I believe that.

I kinda think that they really "owe" it to him to release him. Just like Jerry said about .... I think it may have been Troy .... if he's unhappy I would release him so he could find his best fit elsewhere.

are you serial? retiring means you'll always be a part of the Packers

not playing for Minnesota the following year

Actually, Favre has the leverage. He can apply and they will be forced to either reinstate him, trade him, or reinstate him. No team can force a player to stay retired.

hello

Barry Sanders, Detroit, tried playing for another team, no reentering the game, stay retired
