Yep. They can pay him $12M to hold a clipboard.

The signed contract is leverage for both sides. It is also detrimental to both sides.

True, but Greenbay is more likely to do that than let him take that $12M from the Vikings. They'd be more than happy to pay $12M to keep him off an NFC North team.

After he is released and clears waivers, he can sign with any team for what ever terms they agree upon.

doesn't Favre want to play for Minny?

yes, no NFL team can force someone to stay retired, but that may just happen if Green Bay decides to do nothing and insist that he return and compete to win his job back, an inglorious and humiliating proposition, so he just might say **** like Barry did and sit out until he's too old to come back

I must have missed the article where he said he wanted to play for the Vikings? Still doesn't change the fact that Favre WANTS to play for the Packers, they just don't want him and don't want him elsewhere.

Sheryl Crow remakes an old hit upon hearing of Brett's newest annual retire/unretire soap opera twist.

"Are you Favre enough to be my fan" ..... lie to me... lol

The NFL needs to change how players retire, with respect to allowing the player to come back right away. If a player retires, he must sit for that year, IMO.

Setting NFL policy because of an individual's disdain for a particular player's antics is very short sighted. While one poster hates Favre for 'being bigger than the team', an agenda such as this would be elevating him to being bigger than the NFL.

I would be willing to bet you'd be blasting such a policy if for some reason Tony Romo decided to retire/unretire. It's not hard to imagine this board with it's ever rallying cry of bias against the Cowboys and making him sit a year.

The Favre situation is a GB problem...not an NFL problem.

Players retire and change their mind a lot.

I know that I said "Enough said", but apparently you did not understand my position on Brett. So here you go:

First, he changed his mind three times. I know many players have done this before, but I don't remember someone doing it three times. All at the expense of his TEAM trying to get ready for their season. "Brett is a selfish S.O.B."

Secondly, he plays the most important position in football and with his waffling, he can hurt the future of that TEAM. "Brett is a selfish S.O.B."

Thirdly, he is the same person that held the TEAM by the b**ls a few years ago, making them wait for his decision on retirement or not. "Brett is a selfish S.O.B."

Fourthly, he is the same person a few years ago that said it is not his job to "help" Rogers get ready to be a starter. Even though he Know he was retiring soon. What a TEAM player. "Brett is a selfish S.O.B."

Fifthly, if Troy or Roger had done all of the above, I WOULD FEEL THE SAME WAY! But being TEAM players, they know how to walk away and let their TEAM move on!

Oh, did I say "BRETT IS A SELFISH S.O.B.!

Now, enough said!

the Packers also owe it to themselves to not possibly help a rival team

So if he's so good that he could really help another team, why wouldn't they make him their starter? Holding on to a guy and sitting him on the bench because you own his rights and don't want him to play well against you is a crap way to let the guy who WAS your franchise for years and years end his playing days.

I think the whole thing is hilarious!!!

They keep showing his retirement speech over and over on NFL Network.

What the heck was he thinking?

I'm so sore and tired right now?

Practically, every NFL player is still sore and tired in March. Especially, if your team made it all the way to the NFCCG!

There are plenty of QB's that have played into their 40's...Cmon!

You should have waited for your body to fully recuperate Brett.

Actually you make two very valid points.... one actually voids out the other... depending on how you look at it.

If a policy were put in place due to Favre and his annual Cher-like drama then that may be a good thing... ie. like a rule put into place for a Cowboys player.

Rules are created to stop the Cowboys players from doing certain things... so why cant a policy be put in place to stop a guy like Favre from doing what he does annually?

I'm not really sure how one point voids out the other...I believe the 2nd point validates as to why one shouldn't make such a knee jerk policy based solely on a predisposed prejudice against a single player about an off the field issue....that does not hinder nor injure, or put the league in a bad light.

I'm not really getting why everyone HATES this 'drama queen' stuff. We all LOVE the Cowboys...perhaps the biggest soap opera in all of sports. And almost to a person here, at some time or another, have posted in a dramatic fashion. We LOVE drama...when it suits us I'd reckon.

Rules are created to stop ALL players from certain things, not just Cowboy players. I understand the point of some rules have been created BECAUSE of some Cowboy players...but I'm pretty sure all of these rules pertain to on field safety issues.

Correct me if I'm wrong here...but isn't this the only time Favre has actually done the paperwork and officially retired? I know he's contemplated retiring for several seasons now, but that doesn't equate to retiring 'annually'.

I just don't see the big deal in all of this, let alone creating a rule for it.

It's only a matter of time before certain people try to cast the Packers as the villian in this soap opera. "Why are they being so mean? Why are they standing in the way of his dreams? If they're not gonna use him, they owe it to Brett and the league to set him free." And so on.

Right on cue, Cowlishaw and LeBreton have columns today bashing the Pack. My psychic powers are awesome.

I can see ESPN dusting off the hibernating Madden for a comment:rolleyes:

Brett Favre had a great career... got a Superbowl ring and has maintained the longest streak of games started in the NFL period. I bet that's a record that's really hard to let go of, and I haven't seen that talked about much.

Sure, ole Brett loves the game, but there's more to it than that. This has all the makings of a true soap opera in the NFL.

And JMO, but Brett saw his best years in the 90s. He needs to hang 'em up. Even Troy had to hang 'em up.

In a way, they are. Favre has done as much for them as they have for him. If they don't want him, they should trade him or let him go. If they do want him, they should let him back on the roster.

Saying we don't want you here and don't want you anywhere else is just stupid.
