hyruleguardian;2460018 said:Hey Cowboys fans. I am crashing your board.
So I was looking through some threads here to see what some of you guys are saying, and I couldn't help but notice what some of you guys are saying about the Giants.
It seems as if a lot of you guys are hoping the Plaxico situation will be a constant distraction for the Giants and really hurt them. I don't think this could be further from the case. This is the most focused team in the league. They already manhandled the Commanders just two days after the Plaxico story came out. This "distraction" is not going to make them miss a beat.
Some of you also seem to be hopeful that Pierce might be suspended by the team, the league, or else the city of New York. It is worth pointing out that a suspension from any source is highly unlikely. Pierce is cooperating with city officials. It is highly doubtful he will face criminal charges as long as he continues to cooperate with the police. There may be some rumors that swirl around about an obstruction of justice charge on his part but don't expect anything to come of it. If you think Pierce is going to be suspended you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
As far as Plaxico goes, there is no way losing a #1 receiver is a GOOD thing for the team. However, I really do not believe the Giants will be hurt by his loss. For some proof, the Giants are 3-0 in games in which he has not played, and have outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points in those games. Furthermore, the three games Plaxico has missed have coincided with three of Eli's best games of the year. Since a great week 1, Plaxico hasn't had much of an impact for the Giants anyway. Dominic Hixon stepped into Plaxico's shoes on Sunday and had more yards receiving than Plaxico has had in a long while. Finally, cutting ties with Plaxico cuts ties with what was clearly the most uncooperative player on the team. Simply put, the Giants don't need Plaxico.

It doesn't matter who the Giants lose, the team just keeps rolling. The Giants truly play as a team and not merely a collection of talented individuals. In fact, this is part of what makes them thrive. I added Plaxico to the list because he has basically been M.I.A. since week 1 even before he pulled the trigger.
And one other thing worth mentioning... because of the structure of Plaxico's contract, the Giants are going to be able to get the vast majority of the $35 million back. That gives them more cap room in the coming seasons to sign and/or keep other good players that the Giants otherwise would not have been able to hang onto.
So, while Cowboys fans understandably may be hoping this whole Plaxico incident leads to some sort of Giants downward spiral, a feeling that the national media is doing its best to instill in people, don't bet on it.

As for my thoughts on the Cowboys, I think they are going to have a tough time of making it to the playoffs. The problem is right now they are losing the tiebreaker to the Falcons. The Cowboys are a better team than the Falcons, but with their schedule, the Cowboys are going to have to win AT LEAST 3 games to make the playoffs. 4 wins gets them in for sure, 2 wins assures that they will miss the playoffs, and 3 wins is a probably/maybe.
I will admit this: I think the Cowboys are the second best team in the NFC, as well as a top 5 team in the NFL. As a Giants fan, I certainly don't want to be facing the Cowboys in the playoffs, I must admit. The Giants will be the bona fide favorites no matter who they play, but if I could take my pick of which NFC teams I would like to play in the playoffs, the Cowboys would be my last pick.
That said, the Giants are going to make it back-to-back Super Bowls this year, and Eli Manning will only further solidify his legend. But don't listen to me, I'm just a Giants fan.![]()
hyruleguardian;2460188 said:I think you guys misunderstood what I mean by "legend".
I'm not saying he's an instant hall of famer.
I'm saying that no matter what happens to him from here on out, he and the Giants will always be remembered for what happened last year.
Rudy for Notre Dame is also a "legend". He never even played in the NFL.
Of course, I think Eli Manning is one of the best quarterbacks in the game today. But that's not why he will already be a legend some day. If you want a better comparison, think Joe Namath vs. the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III.
Nope, not even close to your over the top labeling Eli a "legend", that is the stupidest thing I've heard.hyruleguardian;2461434 said:Of all the wrong things said in this entire thread, saying that David Tyree trapped the ball against the ground in the Super Bowl last year is surely #1.

Romo is also throwing to one of the best WR combos in the NFL. How you guys can debunk Eli's stats because of a great O-Line and running game but not acknowledge that Romo's stats may be inflated by a great WR core is silly.rexrobinson;2460086 said:He has more than just a better QB rating. In 3 less games he only trails Eli by 65 yards total passing. He also has 2 more touchdowns on 38 less attempts and played the last 3 games with a broken finger on his throwing hand.
There is a difference. Last year no one, and I mean no one, expected the Giants to win the SB. This year you guys were self proclaimed champs and media champs before the season started, and the Giants were still expected to collapse.ajk23az;2460140 said:You really sound like we were sounding last year. We were puffing out our chests and were ready to pounce on any non-cowboy fan coming in here.
We ate crow last year, and I'm thinking you guys will do it this year.
I am quick replying to this and have done no reseach but I am pretty sure Dilfer didn't win 4 straight post season games to win the SB. I think Eli and Big Ben are the only two to have ever done that.Hostile;2460211 said:No, but he did beat the Giants. So it's no wonder you don't like him as the litmus test.
He went 7-0 to end the 2000 season. Then won 4 straight post season games including the Super Bowl.
Legend? By your earlier criteria, he is. I say he's not.

FYI. Hostile does his research. All the time.

Giants may falter, any given Sunday right?!?! But you can not deny that the Giants not only surprised the world last season but this season as well.
You are right, when I said "self proclaimed" I meant the fans, not the organization.theebs;2461677 said:Not one player on this team ever proclaimed anything.
Its the lazy national media that did that. Espn uses dallas for ratings in the offseason to keep people watching nfl live and their other programming.
So does every talk show host in america and every columnist in every paper.
No one on this team has ever declared anything, yet like a sheep, here you are saying they have because you have heard countless members of the national media say Dallas is the best or whatever.
the same guys who just throw their hands up when they are writing predicitions and say Dallas will win the superbowl also turn around every week and start all there articles about Dallas with a Jessica simpson, jerry jones plastic surgery, pacman or T.O. story. its all nonsense and when writing about Dallas these guys just say whatever.
then they turn around and say the team said they were the best, just like you are doing and nothing could be further from the truth.
GMen86;2461700 said:You are right, when I said "self proclaimed" I meant the fans, not the organization.
And I am aware that many of you did not feel that way. I am responding to ajks post where he said we sounded like "you guys last year", puffing our chests.
This is all just bantor on a message board.theebs;2461707 said:Well i agree with that.
There are alot of Dallas cowboys fans around. And alot of them are terrible fans. I used to know a bunch of bandwagon no nothing cowboys fans and they drove me nuts.
I would like to believe that every team has fans like that, and they do, just not in the numbers Dallas and a few other teams have.
GMen86;2461672 said:Thanks.....Like I said, I didn't do the research, I just misremembered.
Oh, I didn't forget the Ravens or that game (although I'd like to), just that the Ravens were a wild card, I was thinking they had a bye that year but didn't feel like looking it up last night.RoadRunner;2461752 said:How could you forget the Ravens when your team got butt spanked by them? Surely you would have known then unless the Giants became your team last year or so.

You really think Goddell will have nothing to say about it because he is cooperating with the police? He's only cooperating because he doesn't want to go to jail. It has nothing to do with what Goddell thinks about the situation.
Funny how everyone praises the Giants for "standing up" for the team and getting rid of a problem in Plaxico, but they don't say anything about how they are handling Pierce. If this was happening in Dallas, and Demarcus Ware had done the same thing if TO had shot himself, the entire universe would be calling for Jerry and the NFL to suspend Ware because they had no control over their team.
Maybe it's because Plax hasn't done anything all year and they don't need him and Pierce is a HUGE part of their defense and would be greatly missed?
The Giants are just like every team, when a player can help them win, they do whatever it takes to keep them around.
BRING ON DECEMBER!!!!
