Giants' Umenyiora hurts knee, carted off field *Out for year*

So Strahan is coming back? Know divorce ruined him financially. He is still a force at RDE

did one of your scouts tell you this?

I really hope karma doesn't bite us in the ***. I would never wish a major injury on a main component of a rival team. Go Cowboys

The Giants are screwed! there championship run was built on being able to get consistent great pass-rushing on opposing QB's. Now without Osi losing him to injury and Strahan to retirement well there Secondary will be greatly exposed all year. I thought we were a better team already but now i really dont see the Giants being more than a .500 team unless Eli is really ready to take his game to the next level...

Same here, I would not wish a injury on any rival, so when we beat them there is no excuses on why we beat them.

I live here too and Osi is nothing compared to his idiotic teammates, namely Pierce and Jacobs.

He's a mute by comparison. Hope he recovers quickly.

At any rate, I wish the Giants nothing but perfect health this year. That way when we stomp a mudhole in them, they'll have no excuses for not pulling off another fluke.

it's probably because him and Ware seem to be pretty tight

Without Osi and Strahan they won't be the same team. But they will be better than 8-8 this year unless Eli gets hurt.

Wow. Bad break. Great player. Huge loss for the giants

I keep hearing on this board about why we aren't playing all our best players enough

..or why we are not letting certain players get enough touches or letting them show off their skills in pre-season..

..to button it up.

This injury is exactly why.

Bench all starters for the next game and let the depth chart warriors fight it out now.

We can't afford any more injuries right now.

Thank Gawd the G-men are in our division, or else the "trade Ellis" bandwagon would be in full chorus. But... maybe... Naw, I can't even go there.

oh well...sorry he got hurt and all, but nobody feels sorry for us or sheds a tear when our guys go down...nobody said jack when we played all last season with our starting CB's being at 75-80% at best...nobody said any nice words when we had to play in the playoffs with Romo and Owens at nowhere near 100%...nobody said jack when it was apparently Terry Glenn was going to be a non factor last yr

injuries happen...we have several key guys down right now, is anyone out there saying "aw shucks, those poor Cowboys have alot of injuries" ??? I think not

David

I don't like Jacobs, at all, but I don't ever hope for injuries, or cheer them when they do happen, on any player. That might just be me but I don't find injuries as something humorous, no matter who they are.

Let me say it for the third time in this thread.

Strahan
will
now
be
coming
back.

The dude loves money and has to support those chillens. He now has the leverage to make yet another big payday for another year. Book it. He'll be in a Giants uniform on the field by week 1.

That's a shame. Osi is a great player, one of the league's best. As a fan of the game, I want to see all the best players on the field.

Giants' Umenyiora requires season-ending knee surgery

Associated Press
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora will have season-ending surgery on his injured left knee Tuesday.

Umenyiora was hurt in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the New York Jets, and Dr. Russell Warren told the team on Sunday that an MRI found a tear in his lateral meniscus.

"It was obviously the news that I did not want to hear," coach Tom Coughlin said. "But after listening to the explanation and Dr. Warren's thoughts on it, I am convinced that this
is the right procedure and the right way to go."
The normal recovery lasts four months, Coughlin said, adding that a non-surgical option was not discussed.

The loss is a major one for the Super Bowl champions in the wake of the retirement of seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan a few months ago.

Coughlin said the team is considering all its options when asked whether the Super Bowl champions were interested in luring the 36-year-old out of retirement.

Coughlin recently talked with Strahan about his new career working on Sundays for FOX Sports.

"The only thing I talked with Michael about was his new challenge, moving forward in his new assignment and he was very excited about that," Coughlin said.

Strahan, meanwhile, is currently on vacation and hasn't heard from the Giants. On the possibility he would return to the Giants, Strahan told NFL Network's Adam Schefter: "I haven't heard from anybody else so to say if I would or wouldn't is premature. So I'm enjoying my retired life right now."
This is not the first time Umenyiora has required surgery to repair cartilage damage in his left knee. He underwent arthroscopic surgery for the same problem at Troy State.

Umenyiora started all 16 games last season and had 52 tackles and a team-high 13 sacks. He added seven tackles in the Giants' playoff run to the Super Bowl.

The Giants are now a bit thin at defensive end. Justin Tuck has replaced Strahan and New York signed veteran Renaldo Wynn in the offseason.
With Umenyiora out, the Giants have to consider moving strongside linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka back to defensive end. He was switched to linebacker last year so the team could put its best 11 players on the field.
"I haven't had a chance to talk to him so I am not going to comment on that," Coughlin said.
