The Giants are overrated on this board greatly. Thanks alot Dallas for not finishing off that average team like you should've. Now I have to hear how the Giants are such a tough team.

Giants had great gameplans during the playoffs and a great defensive stretch. Dont make it more than what it is. They weren't going to make the playoffs with Osi. Who cares

Man I couldn't agree more.....

The article is odd - they claim there is ligament damage and then go on to say the MRI only showed lateral meniscus damage which usually in and of itself would only be a relatively minor knee injury requiring arthroscopic debridement.

I think the article is inaccurate.

It is on ESPN.com and says it will take 4 months or so to recover. Check the link again.

I'm not arguing whether the article is real, just the accuracy of the information. This is common when it comes to things medical as the reporters don't really know much about human anatomy.

I suspect if he were ready to return in 4 months, the Giants would just keep him on the active roster and go short for a year. Unless what they mean is he can't workout for 4 months which would mean he would be gone for the year.

Coughlin was quoted in the article also saying that it wasn't good news. Guess time will tell. But the story is on espn and nfl.com

I wanted to play this team full strength

This means absolutely nothing to me. I dont care if we beat a Pee Wee team.... as long as we are raising the 6th Lombardi.

I dont think the Giants felt bad about SB by saying "but TO was 100%" or "Romo's thumb wasnt right"

Actually, college teams sort of do have "preseason games".

That's why you see teams like Michigan play Appalachian State, Kansas play Emporia State, etc.

Some come right out and play.

But they are two different games. The NFL systems, both offensively and defensively, are so complex.
Which is why they put in all the off season work, nobody needs 4 preseason games.

People will still get hurt. If teams really thought that the preseason was such a waste of time, all starters would be on the bench the whole time.
Yeah, people will still get hurt, IN GAMES THAT MATTER.

GIANTS CONFIRM THAT OSI IS DONE FOR THE YEAR

Posted by Mike Florio on August 24, 2008, 5:44 p.m.
The New York Giants have confirmed the worst news their defense could have gotten during the 2008 preseason — Osi Umenyiora, a sack specialist who was poised to carry the load in the wake of the retirement of Michael Strahan, has been lost for the season.
Contrary to reports of a torn MCL, the team says that Umenyiora has a torn lateral meniscus.
He’ll have surgery on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that coach Tom Coughlin said the subject of luring Michael Strahan out of retirement was raised in the team’s offices on Sunday.
“I haven’t really talked to anyone at this point in time to be honest with you,” Coughlin added. “I’m sure that Jerry Reese and I and ownership will look long and hard at whatever options there are out there and do what’s best at this point in time.”
Strahan wanted $8 million to stay with the team; his price tag might have gone up considerably today.

Dang, I guess it's official. Looks like that speedbump in "our road" just got a little bit smaller.

What's it going to be then, eh?

No, we are the only foolish team that does that like we did with Glenn last season.

Just when the Favre drama ends, here comes another possible quick comeback from retirement.

If strahan comes back and plays I will feel even more ticked off that he was allowed to just wander around and chat with our players during a training camp practice.

My guess is that this is a very bad meniscus injury and they are opting to repair rather than debride the cartilage and that is why he is gone for the year.

Weird injuries happening lately - Merriman with PCL/LCL tear and now a lateral meniscus that puts Osi out for a year.

I live in ny. with as much as he talks he doesn't back it up.
I live here too and Osi is nothing compared to his idiotic teammates, namely Pierce and Jacobs.

He's a mute by comparison. Hope he recovers quickly.

At any rate, I wish the Giants nothing but perfect health this year. That way when we stomp a mudhole in them, they'll have no excuses for not pulling off another fluke.
