Why would Osi being injured cause Strahan to change his mind about retirement - a decision he made on his own to begin with.

It isn't as though he wanted to play, but was forced out by the Giants organization.

He, like Elway, has a storybook ending to his career. He's not coming back.

Uhh, money, fortune and fame. Could he be thinking if I come back and we win again then I'll be an even greater hero. And another SB win. And perhaps a lock on a first ballot HOF.

Or perhaps you're right. Stay retired and making big bucks doing nothing but talk.

Osi or not, the giants will still be a tough team

I agree. They are a good team.

However losing three players that accounted for 26.5 sacks last year is a pretty big blow.

Tuck will get all the attention now instead of being the guy that was getting singled up inside.

It will be interesting to see how they react. I still think they are a very good team however.

The Giants are overrated on this board greatly. Thanks alot Dallas for not finishing off that average team like you should've. Now I have to hear how the Giants are such a tough team.

Giants had great gameplans during the playoffs and a great defensive stretch. Dont make it more than what it is. They weren't going to make the playoffs with Osi. Who cares

wow, this pretty much changes the landscape of the east. That is a huge loss no matter how much people spin it.

This is why preseason is so damn stupid and needs to be shorter.

People will still get hurt. If teams really thought that the preseason was such a waste of time, all starters would be on the bench the whole time.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has ligament damage in his left knee and will miss the season.

Umenyiora was hurt in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the New York Jets, but early indications were that there was no ligament damage.

However, an MRI Sunday found a torn lateral meniscus, Dr. Russell Warren told the team. The two-time Pro Bowl choice will have surgery Tuesday and be sidelined for the season.

The loss is a major one for the Super Bowl champions in the wake of the retirement of seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan a few months ago.

This is not the first time Umenyiora has required surgery to repair cartilage damage in his left knee. He underwent arthroscopic surgery for the same problem at Troy State.

Umenyiora started all 16 games last season and had 52 tackles and a team-high 13 sacks. He added seven tackles in the Giants' playoff run to the Super Bowl.

The Giants are now a bit thin at defensive end. Justin Tuck has replaced Strahan and New York signed veteran Renaldo Wynn in the offseason.

With Umenyiora out, the Giants have to consider moving strongside linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka back to defensive end. He was switched to linebacker last year so the team could put its best 11 players on the field.

If the Cowboys don't represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, they are a bust.

The article is odd - they claim there is ligament damage and then go on to say the MRI only showed lateral meniscus damage which usually in and of itself would only be a relatively minor knee injury requiring arthroscopic debridement.

I think the article is inaccurate.

Huge loss for the gmen. We can only hope to avoid those type of injuries.
