he's an unbelievable talent...even with trading both 1's next yr and possibly our 1 in 2009, I think you have to consider that if it gets it done...our #1 in 2009 should easily be late 20's or 30's again, essentially at that point your trading two 1's and a 2 for him (thats what a late future #1 is valued at)

getting him next yr would be very similar to getting Tony Dorsett in 1977...we had a great offense but were missing that home run threat at RB...got Dorsett, and the rest is history

McFadden can just do so much to affect games...he can run like almost nobody else can...he can catch...he can throw (honestly, what RB has ever thrown as well as he does? I cant think of anyone close) and despite the two fumbles on the KO return today, he can return kicks...whoever gets him will be a very lucky team and he makes everyone around him better

David

Thats about how i see it. And really, our #1 this year is gonna be so late it might as well be a second. This kid is a franchise changer IMHO and i'v felt that way since last year. My God, how many superhuman efforts on national TV against top team does one man have to have before people realize how good this kid is?

You wouldve looked so good in a Cowboy uniform. Enjoy being a Pat and playing on the dark side.

Let me preface this by saying that I haven't even watched him play a full game yet this year, but from what I've seen he doesn't look like the god that some people on here make him seem. To me he's an inferior version of Reggie Bush.

Well Reggie had a superior QB, coaching staff, offensive line, media exposure, etc etc.

Turn on ESPN right now and see how inferior he is.

McF is a great back. But jerrah has gotten a post graduate course in GM from BP the last four years. I do not believe he will take the chance at trading that many #1 picks for one player- he too well remembers the last time he did that and what a mistake it was. We would have to trade both our #1's and probably our #2 to get him- just too much.

reggie bush is soft compared to dmac. today they ran a rollout and dmac blocked a DE and put him right on his arse. he can run, throw, block, catch, and stop world hunger

McFadden is much better than Bush IMO.

How can you judge him when you haven't even seen him play a full game yet?

You can't.

Every time I watch him I think that I wouldn't mind trading both our 1st picks and maybe a 3rd to get him.

Well...I am not so sure.

Normally I would agree with you but he has his Arkansas ties and last year when they made the trade with Cleveland the cameras showed the war room afterwards and Stephen Jones said...that could be MacFadden.

Also remember last year Jerry said it would take a dynamic player to bundle picks to move up and get and I think D-Mac is that type of player in Jerry's eyes.

Now...I am not saying we should give up 3 picks for him...but sometimes when Jerry wants something, Jerry gets it.

I like our RB situation. Why trade up? We're going to have two first round picks, and with a 10-1 team, have the luxury of taking the best player available.

A 10-1 team does have the luxury of taking the best available player...they also have the luxury to use pickS to move up and get a dynamic player.

We are in the position where we could do either. It is a good position to be in.

I hope he does go to NE since we can't get him. Keeps him in the AFC and it'll be even more sweet when we beat NE two years in a row in the SB..... :D

Slaton is not a true NFL RB. He's a 3rd down back, that's going to be great at catching screen passes and lining up in the slot on 3rd downs. He doesn't have a RB's body. At most he can carry it 5-8 times a game. When draft time comes around, he's going to drop like a rock into the late portion of rd1. If we lose JJ, then we need a true NFL RB that can share the load with MBIII, since MBII may not last a full season carrying the ball 20+ times/game with his aggressive running style. The RB we should get is Ray Rice. He's the closest thing to Emmitt I've seen come out of college since Emmitt. He has vision, instincts, durability, toughness, cutting ability, and burst through the whole. This may be a repeat of what happened when Emmitt came out, and Blair Thomas was the #1 ranked RB. I'm by no means comparing DMack to Blair, but you don't always have to sell the house to get a great player. Sometimes that 2nd ranked RB has the better career. JMHO.

Good call. I'm not sold on Slaton either. I definitely dont want him drafted. I would take Ray Rice, although I want a faster back to compliment MBIII, but Rice would do. I REALLY want McFadden, but giving up the farm to get him is too much. Look how that worked out for the Vikings.

I think I'd do it.

IMO the CLE pick we got was pure profit. If we can give that pick, our 1st rounder, and a 3rd, I'd do that in a heartbeat for DMac.

It's like we're basically giving up a 3rd to move up with one first round pick, if you want to look at it that way.

Of course, if you think the CLE pick is pure profit, does the possibility of getting two top 30 players and a possible serviceable guy in the 3rd outweigh getting DMac?

I just don't know. If we do it, I'll be stoked. I don't think this is a scenario where we'd regret doing it later. Some of us are gunshy b/c of the Galloway deal. I don't worry about that repeating itself.

If we get him, I'll be happy. but if we stay pat and get 2-3 players who are solid but unspectacular, I'd be happy with that too.

I'm not going to be broken hearted either way, really. Both options have their merits.

I'm with you guys. Slaton fits GREAT in the offense they are running at WVU, but he's not going to do that kind of damage in a traditional type of offense. He'd be great as a KR/PR, but not as someone to depend on carrying the ball on a consistent basis.
