Good bye D mac

At least McFadden won't be going to Washington, NYG, or Philly! At least I hope not. If Philly loses the remaining 6 games, they might have a shot at McFadden. Same with Wash.

I would rather sign Julius and keep the draft picks. That may not be a popular opinion around here I know.

Jerrah has already expressed his thought process when deciding on resigning players. He determines 1) How much is it going to cost to resign said player. 2) Can we get a player of the same/better ability in the draft. Jerrah says, by getting an equal/better player in the draft, it allows you to have the same/better level of talent w/o having to spend more money since a comparable drafted player is usually cheaper than resigning a veteran. Drafting a replacement player allows you to maintain your level of talent for another 3 years w/o significant additional expenditure, since a drafted player usually doesn't make his "real" money until after his 3rd year in the league. If I'm JJ, the player that I'd be concerned about is Felix Jones (even though I prefer Ray Rice), since Felix has all of the same attributes as JJ. Getting a guy like Felix Jones would allow Dallas to continue at there current level of play, and save Jerrah a few bucks for the next 3 years in the process.

DMac and Barber...

and the way our D is picking things up could spell potential dynasty...
Wade's Defenses always seem to shine in the 2nd 3rd years anyway

BOINGGGG! I think IT moved! :laugh2:

Let me preface this by saying that I haven't even watched him play a full game yet this year, but from what I've seen he doesn't look like the god that some people on here make him seem. To me he's an inferior version of Reggie Bush.

that pretty much sums it up then....while you can always turn on espn and see the highlights (of which there are lots) you can also just look at his numbers against the best talent in the NCAA...he went up against a defense today that likely has 6, 7 maybe even 8 first day picks on defense, and shredded it

All anyone needs to know about McFadden can be seen in his 73 yard TD. An elite speed back looked like he was running in wet concrete when he was being run down from behind until the QB threw a block downfield.

Looks great rolling up yardage against a bunch of guys that will be bagging groceries on Sundays next fall.

huh? bagging groceries?

dude, that LSU defense is loaded...of their top 12-14 guys right now, at least half of them will likely be 1st day picks, maybe even more than that

this guy has run up huge numbers playing against the best talent in the country, he doesnt play in the WAC or some other crap conference

People don't watch enough SEC football, he's doing things to that conference no one has done since Mr. Walker. It's not a matter of if he's going to be good or not, its a matter of how great he is going to be. His offense is one-dimensional, and teams know exactly who is getting the ball, yet he still manages to break off huge runs (the only thing our offense lacks). If Jerry wants him, he's going to get him.
Yeah and that is why Tennessee and Auburn were able to shut him down, because they knew what was coming.

What I really like about McFadden is the fact that he can pass pretty good too. I hope you guys saw that run-fake-pass touchdown. LT does that a lot and it would be great to have DMac do it for the Cowboys.

Why Cleveland, WHY?????:nervous::yousuck:

Yeah, 8 of LSU's 11 defensive starters will start at least 1 game in an NFL career. I think 5 or 6 will be longterm starters.

Anyone questioning McFadden as an elite back is off the range. Combination of Bo Jackson, OJ Simpson and Eric Dickerson. Only concern I would have is how long he can last with his physical style and the mileage he's racked up the last 3 years.

You are joking, right? Either that or you don't watch any college FB in which case you shouldn't be making such comment about the #1 team in the nation.

I mean there is that thing called freedom of speech and all, but I am trying to help you not look foolish.

Lets create a hypothetical scenario...

1) lets say we'll need to get to 3rd pick to get DMac
2) lets say we'll get 30th pick this year and next year (even though I think it will be 32nd ;)).
3) lets say Browns 1st round pick end up at 20th.

3rd pick value points = 2,200 points

20th pick value points = 850
30th pick value points = 620 x 2 = 1,240 (keep in mind that 2009's draft pick is devalued for 2008 draft trade)

1,240 + 850 = 2,090 (not enough for 3rd pick)

add our 2008 3rd round draft pick = 124 + 2,090 = 2,214

So, we'll need give whoever 2008's two #1s, 2009 #1 and this year's 3rd round pick in order to get to 3rd pick in 2008.

Now, I understand the value chart isn't end all, be all but does give some guidelines for trade values.

1st of all, every team knows that noone is going to give up 3 1st round picks, plus another 1st day pick, for the chance to draft 1 guy

I know the trade-value chart is a good guide-line, but it's also common sense that you've got to use

Pats will take Laurinaitis...just a hunch.

here's an intereseting question.

would you trade both our #1's and next years #1, maybe 2 or 3, to the pats if it means mcfadden?

Thats like trading your soul to the Devil for a bag of peanuts...

Because its McFadeen though you can choose your preference of salted or unsalted.

think of the irony. you lose your late round 1st for cheating and wind up with 2-3. all better than your own.

i'd not do it cause we're not 1 player away and because i think we can find a good back elsewhere. either in the draft or FA. CB, WR and maybe FS are all more important than RB. if we lose jones, put RB above FS and *maybe* WR, but we've got other needs to fix on D. do we need to make our #2 offense *that* much better? if we could stop the pats now we'd be able to win.

I agree.

I have been tired of all the McFadden threads... I mean, talk about the guy and how much of a stud he is but we have the #2 offense (which could easily be #1 if the Pats stopped padding their stats ) and a 2-back system that is working.

Also, like you said, we have a few needs that we can help out with our multiple-1st round picks.

Definitely not worth it.

the way cleveland is playing they could be giving us our 22 back. wouldn't that be ironic? from here we just gotta see how the season ends and how the combine goes. THEN we'll have a good idea of where players will fall and can talk intelligently about what we could end up with.

Personally I hope Dallas keeps Julius but if not that Felix Jones is one shifty cat ( bad pun that I just realized I accidentally made but am too lazy to erase so I'll type an explanation of it instead, go figure).

what happens w/julius will likely depend on $ - but i feel they'll be looking at that spot to upgrade if they can this offseason. jones can play for a lot of teams. we're in a good spot of we need to upgrade a position like that.

He is a special back... Peterson-esque...

Peterson has not even finished one season and you are calling him special and hoping others turnout like him? Lets wait a full season or two and see how the notoriously fragile Peterson holds up, sure he is great now, but to be "special" I think most would agree it requires year in year out consistency.
