Yeah, thanks a lot, NFL.com... when I read their roster this afternoon at work, Allen was not on it... and I certainly consider NFL.com the definitive source for matters like that... but whoever put up the original list was asleep at the switch...
And I still say that an offensive lineman who missed 5 games due to injury does not belong in the Pro Bowl... maybe if his team went 10-1 in the other 11 games, but of course the Niners aren't NEARLY that good, are they??
So I owe HH an apology for this one... happily, he's STILL stepping on his johnson, claiming that Larry Allen ran a 5.6 40 coming out of college...
Mel Kiper credited him with a 4.99 40 (he claimed he could "run in the 4.85 range on a fast track"), and he ran a 5.18 at the combine...
Quoting Mel a little further:
"It's that speed which allows him to send LB'ers and DB's flying as he operates like a pin-ball 35-40 yards down the field. Critics of the 40 yard always talk about the last time you saw an OL 40 yards down the field. With Larry, it was an every game occurrence"...
Ourlads credited Allen with a 5.11 40, and said he "runs well"...
H*ll, even Kevin Freakin' Gogan ran faster than a 5.6 40, and he WAS dead slow...
