Defensive end
Greg Hardy was hoping to sign a huge contract in free agency thanks to his stellar production since 2012. However, domestic abuse charges are the reason for him missing 15 games during the 2014
NFL season. It is also the reason Hardy’s chances of inking a big deal have fizzled. With many players already agreed to terms with new teams, the 26-year-old appears to be the odd man out.
Of course, Hardy’s ability to get after the quarterback at a high level is exactly why he will not go unnoticed in free agency. And, the one team everyone would expect to take a chance on someone like him is the one that appears on the brink of signing him.
The
Dallas Cowboys invited Hardy to stay overnight before his scheduled physical with the team. Even though agent
Drew Rosenhaus has stated his client will choose between Dallas and the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it appears quite obvious Hardy will sign with the Cowboys if the organization gives him the opportunity to do so.
One of the biggest issues facing a deal between Dallas and Hardy is the amount of money he wants in a contract. It is being reported that owner
Jerry Jones is more concerned about the cost it will take to land Hardy than if the former sixth-round draft pick is willing to clean up his image. The Cowboys have a specific price they are willing to spend and they will not budge from it when it comes to agreeing to a deal with him.
Another big issue is the length of his 2015 suspension. It has been reported Hardy will miss anywhere between two and six games this year for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder. That has to play a role in Dallas’ decision in regard to if signing him is the best move for the organization.
The fact that Hardy would be a massive difference maker for a team that was on the verge of a NFC Championship berth last season should be reason enough for the Cowboys to get a deal done with the elite pass rusher.
