Has to be said on bringing back Murray

Some people say that Peterson is still a top 5 running back. Some also say he won't command a top 5 running back salary if he is released by the Vikings. If he is still viewed as a top 5 running back then some team will offer him a top 5 contract.

I wish Jerry would just resign Dez and Murray already so this subject would die. Do it Jerry so the 'Zone can move on.

Peterson and Suh aren't coming here. Keep the core together.

I think people are taking Murray's injury history too lightly after his 1st and only fill year. And let's be honest....does he play through the hand Injury if it isn't a contract year?

And while I love the idea of AP, I do have a fear of the media turning our entire training camp into a circus because we sign them.

Randle, Ryan Williams, and a 3rd round pick will work out just fine in my opinion.

Yet another poster who has some sort of unfounded dislike or distrust of Murray. Does he play through the hand injury? Sure, why not? Why would you automatically assume it was only because it's a contract year? Talk about taking the worst possible perspective on a player that just came off an incredibly productive year.

Most fans and writers think that Peterson will be released. That is why there are a ton of articles about where he might end up.

Dallas is one of the obvious landing spots, but it won't be for 12.75m. If they wanted to pay 10m+ they would just offer it to Murray.

Maybe the Raiders or Jets or Colts offer him a ton of money, but after the charges, suspension, injury and his age, most people think we will get around 5-6m. If you think that is offensive then maybe he retires but I doubt. Anybody with that many kids needs to keep making that money.

Fans and writers do a lot of speculation that doesn't necessarily come true. It does make for lots of reading material if you like that sort of thing (and $$$ for the writers). I just pay attention to what the teams are officially saying. The Vikings haven't been silent about their intentions concerning Peterson, He will remain in Minnesota.

As for your comment about his kids... that was funny but seriously, it doesn't take millions to raise kids even though he is and will continue to get paid big bucks by the Vikings.

This is just one of those we agree to disagree situations.

McKinnon looked like a keeper last year and with the new stadium coming I don't think MINN wants to take the PR hit by bringing AD back, Minnesota isn't Texas. Add in saving 13m and I think it's a done deal.

For the last couple weeks all I'm hearing is how much Romo is pleading with Jerry to keep Murray, how Murray wants to stay and cares more about a super bowl than money, and how Jason Witten doesn't think Murray can be replaced.

If Romo and Witten want Murray back so much, and Murray wants to be back and thinks a super bowl is more important than money, there should be no reason why between the three of them, they can't do some team friendly super bowl oriented adjustments to their salaries and salary demands.

I'm squarely in the Adrian Peterson camp. If he is available he should become a Cowboys. That means if he is released or can be traded for a small sum.

I think glossing over Murray's fumbles, especially in a key playoff game, doesn't do justice to how hard the rest of the players played this year. I like Murray a lot, but this team is bigger than him. If he does come back it shouldn't be at a great cost. And Romo and Witten who have made more money than they can spend in a lifetime should focus more on cementing their legacies (in this man's opinion).

I'd like to see this team make a statement next year, and two players who could help make that happen by more than just their performances on the field are clearly Witten and Romo.

I think people need to take his 392 carries into consideration when talking about fumbling issues. That's a ton of carries for a running back. If he comes back next year I would like to keep that number around 250-300 and utilize some of the backups a little bit more.

If Peterson is cut then the top 5 RB salaries will be:
LeSean McCoy $9,750,000
Matt Forte $7,050,000
Arian Foster $6,000,000
Marshawn Lynch $5,000,000
Jamaal Charles $4,450,000

Average $6,450,000

It seems like a fair question. This is the first year that Murray has played all 16 games and it comes in a year when he carried the ball 24.5 times per game on average. His next highest carries per game was 16 in 2012.

Emmitt (career) 1 fumble every 91 touches

Murray (2014) 1 fumble every 90 touches

it's no coincidence that we became a running team this past year?

Getting rid of Peterson's salary would sure help Dallas use the Transition tag on Murray if they get Dez locked up.

You aren't disagreeing with me, bruh. I'm just repeating the message that Minnesota has already made record. I'm not into all this speculation nonsense so if that's your thing then you can have it.

From the perspective of it being too much of a huge PR hit for Minnesota to keep him then why would Dallas want absorb that PR hit? In case you haven't been paying attention, the decision process in Dallas has changed when it comes to acquiring talent. They are looking for more quality guys and I doubt a high dollar RB that comes with a huge PR hit is in their plans.

You're thoughts on this issue are just pure speculation and spin. There is no evidence to support it and plenty to contradict it. I hope you're not getting paid for your bluster because you suck at it.

The franchise tag is now based on the past 5 years salaries at that position. I assume that the transition tag is similar.

I really wish I could 'like' this 1000 times.

It does? He's suggesting that Murray might have held himself out if he wasn't playing for a big contract. In other words, it had nothing to do with his toughness or desire to help his team win, it was because of an impending big paycheck. That's questioning Murray's character and I have no idea why anyone would be questioning that, he has done nothing to merit that distrust.

Wow, what are you 12??? Do you sit under your Peterson poster at night and does he talk to you???

I guess the only positive from your posting is that I never have to talk at you again. Peace, bruh...

I hope you have more to offer to this discussion than personal attacks on me. They don't affect me in any way. You may not like the idea of Peterson staying in Minnesota but it is a very real possibility according to the Vikings. If you disagree, rather than attacking me, why don't you offer some evidence to the contrary rather that speculation and spin.

From what I could find it seems that are different formulas for the different designations

Exclusive Franchise Tag is top 5 salaries from that year at the end of RFA
Non-exclusive Franchise Tag uses the top 5 salaries for the past 5 years as a % of the salary cap*
Transition tag is the same as the non-exclusive but uses the top 10 salaries

*the non-exclusive tag also comes with 2 number one picks if signed by another team

Yes, I knew about the 2 types of franchise tags but I've never researched the transition tag. The transition tag has not been used very often, but they changed the rules and it was used a couple of times last year, IIRC.

Murray is not going to take a "Hometown Discount" IMVHO and really he shouldn't since this is most
likely his last bite of the apple. I wouldn't blame him for looking out for his future and family and taking
whatever best deal provides him with the most guaranteed money.

Why worry if he leaves....Todd Gurly or Melvin Gordon will most likely be there at 27 so be patient
and see what happens. Good things come to those who stand still and wait while Fools rush in.
