This is my concern although he played in the Mountain West.
I bet Jerry and the new coach would rather have 5 years of superstar production but I get your point. It is going to be a tough decision especially if we draft in the top 10. At 15, it will make it easier to stomach. The biggest question is do you want a really good starter on 1 contract or another who has a longer shelf life? No doubt Jeanty is a stud and would instantly be a star in this league, question is how long can he do it for? Some buck the trend, but most don’t
I still am interested to see how he does he the college playoffs, but all indications are that he is a superstar at the position. Not saying he alone fixes our rushing offense, but greatly improves it day 1. Can another lesser running back have a similar impact? I say yes, but you cannot wait too long, either. Problem I have, very hard to pass on a high-end DT, but I do not see an elite rusher from anyone outside of Graham, either. Watch Harmon last night against Penn State, he didn't flash too much at all, thought Carter on Penn State did.I bet Jerry and the new coach would rather have 5 years of superstar production but I get your point. All indications are that he is a star as soon as he gets drafted. I know there is zero chance he gets past the Cowboys if he fell to them outside of the top 10.If we get a superstar RB on his rookie contract it will be worth it. You can reassess his performance then.
You never know. Jeanty is small and I don’t think he will run a 4.3 forty but his stop and go quickness is next level. I am watching him in an interview on the college playoff show. The kid is polished.I still am interested to see how he does he the college playoffs, but all indications are that he is a superstar at the position. We will be all looking at these top DT's throughout the process. See a ton of good run defenders which we need, but not many pass rushers. Will this front office take another 1st rd NT?You never know. Jeanty is small and I don’t think he will run a 4.3 forty but his stop and go quickness is next level. I actually like the Kentucky kid the best at defensive tackle after Graham. The problem is he will be a boom or bust player. 6-6 300lbs and can move. Just can’t teach that. Supposedly he can be lazy though. I need to see our draft position before I make a decision to take Jeanty.
No. They will take a pass rusher at defensive tackle though. I would look at Graham and those types. Carter looks more like Overshown than Micah. Walker plays more Micah. Wouldn’t mind either one. Would love an elite versatile group like Parsons, Overshown, and said draft pick.We will be all looking at these top DT's throughout the process. Walker might be more their liking then a Harmon. Now if they lose OSA, that might change their thinkingNo. They will take a pass rusher at defensive tackle though. I agree with you - a 5’7/5’8 running back that runs in the 4.4s isn’t generational IMO.You never know. Jeanty is small and I don’t think he will run a 4.3 forty but his stop and go quickness is next level. I am watching him in an interview on the college playoff show. The kid is polished.

It’s hard man. The Cowboys get the 15th pick and draft a Marcus Spears career type of tackle over Jeanty it won’t go over well for the Cowboys. This draft appears to be below average talent wise. The defensive tackles and pass rushers could be elite though.I agree with you - a 5’7/5’8 running back that runs in the 4.4s isn’t generational IMO.
He’s a stud for sure…and definitely one of the top 5-10 best players in the class but he’s not as good as Bijan was as a prospect.
If we draft him he’s a safe pick that would be meh for me just bc I know we can get a starter in rounds 2/3.
If the Cowboys are determined to maximize the Dak/CD/Diggs/Parsons core for the next five years, Ashton is probably the pick that will do that. Having a once-in-a-generation back will do that. Suddenly, CD will find more single coverage, Dak will be much better, and the defense will also be better with more of a ball control offense. The downside is that 5-7 years from now, he will likely be spent while some of the players at the top of the first will likely still be playing.I really like Ashton Jeanty as a prospect, but not in this deep running back class. However, cannot ignore the facts:
-Dane believes Jeanty is the 2nd best player in this class after Travis Hunter. He is going to be the best player on their board, if he falls.
-Who desperately needs a running back ahead of us? Mel Kiper continues to say the only team that does, is the Dallas Cowboys
-Cowboys franchise has always had elite players at the position. Likes to take the top player at a position
-He is a local kid, which means huge money in merchandising
-Is that WOW player that would get the casual fan excited
It is very possible another team drafts him ahead of us as he is a legitimate blue chip prospect in a draft that lacks them, but he isn't going to get past the Cowboys if he falls. Their believe, he helps the run game, their OL, their QB and Defense.
I have warmed up to the idea, but not in the top 10 and it would depend who else is available. If he falls past the top 10, he is going to most likely be the best player available. If the Cowboys are determined to maximize the Dak/CD/Diggs/Parsons core for the next five years, Ashton is probably the pick that will do that. A 215 pound running back is small? You never know. Jeanty is small and I don’t think he will run a 4.3 forty but his stop and go quickness is next level. I am watching him in an interview on the college playoff show. The kid is polished.

I agree. We actually are able to be somewhat active in free agency this year. So we can fill several holes via free agency.Jeanty is the 2nd or 3rd best player in the draft. If he's available when we pick in the 12-15 range, we absolutely HAVE TO draft him. The guy is an unbelievable playmaker. Period.
Let’s see his measurements at the combine.A 215 pound running back is small?
He is strong as a bull and 215 pounds.Let’s see his measurements at the combine.
Chubb is essentially done. I watched him yesterday and burst is done. I think unless they take a QB he is their pick. With all the arrows pointing towards the Cowboys it looks like a strong possibility. The other team that might come in to play before the Cowboys are the Browns. Chubb will be a FA and who knows if they move on from him. Yes, they need a QB, but they have a mess at the position to figure out. It will be interesting to see what the Browns do with Watson.
Adding him to this team wouldn't be a bad thing, by any stretch. The kid is fantastic and would instantly upgrade their pitiful running game and offense in general.
As huge a need as RB is, and adding the best player at a need position is never a bad thing, it's just not the best thing for this team, this year. There are too many very good RB's that they will have a chance to add after Rd1. But there will be zero stud DT's. IMHO, they must take advantage of their draft position and take a true difference maker for the interior of the D-line. They have been weak inside for too long and they usually don't get a chance to grab a true stud for the position. They should have that chance this year.
A stud DE isn't out the question either. D-Law may be gone, Williams hasn't proven anything yet. Parsons may ultimately cost too much to keep. And GM JJ sees more value at DE than DT.
And I agree that adding another stud DE wouldn't hurt, but missing out on another stud DT would.
