Looks like Jerry West is stepping down from that spot.

I think he wants the time to enjoy WVU Basketball.

He played a part in getting Huggins here and also Jerry's son is now at WVU.

Yep.

And if David Robinson hadn't gotten hurt the year before, they would not have ever been able to get Tim Duncan the following year.

It must have also been nice to get a title in a shortened season too.

The Spurs fans bragging about their past titles kind of reminds me of the annoying Cowboys fans that always brag about our glory back in the 90s, only the Spurs success has been more recent.

One Spurs fan in this thread talks about not caring about last season and heck not even about the last Spurs/Mavs game but yet they are quick to throw out a title that happened a couple of years ago .

Of course I know George Gervin... but he was traded in '85. And I know about the Tark and Larry Brown fiascos. And I know that the Spurs didn't reach the WCF from 1983 until 1995.

I told you, the past decade has been when you've won your championships, so obviously I wasn't counting the later part of the 90s. Other than that, the Spurs have been much like the Mavs.

Hell I can point to a few playoff appearances in the early 80s and one WCF appearance in 1988. But I'm not a pretender.

well concidering im 21 its safe to say the spurs have been great most of my life, and how is it then that the spurs and mavs are the same when the spurs have the third best winning percentage of all time in the nba?? i didnt see the mavs on that list! the way the celtics are playing lately, the spurs might be second by the end of the decade

why do you say it is a half championship? yes it was a shortened season, but if i remember correctly the rest of the teams in the league DID play for the championship, and unlike one of the deadskins super bowls, no player was still on strike when the season finally started, oh and about the rockets? mj was actually back when they won the second one! they lost to the magic, who did go to the finals that year, so ya. and as for D wade, there were some questionable calls, but the reason the mavs lost that series is because dirk chocked!

I think you could make a pretty strong argument that the Spurs are one of the top 5 franchises in the history of the NBA.

The Lakers and Celtics are obviously the top 2.

The Bulls would be #3.

And then I think you'd have a pretty good argument between maybe the Pistons, Spurs and Sixers for the next few spots.

And here's what I've learned from my good Mavs friends.

Tim Duncan is the most reprehensible and despicable athlete in modern sports... in fact, he makes OJ look like Mother Teresa.

The only difference between the Spurs and the Mavericks are three meaningless NBA Championships... and really it's more like 2 1/2 NBA Championships... and those don't really count because titles don't matter.

When a Spurs fan disagrees with a Mavs fan, the Spurs fan is accused of being "bitter" and "jealous"... (presumably because of all the success the Mavs have had).

Some of you remind me of HH31 and his I hate the longhorns more than I love my own team rhetoric. Although I gotta give Danny credit for loving his team enough to say they deserve to be listed as one of the top 5 NBA teams of all time...WOW.
