How do Dallas fans really feel about Wade?

Uh...he didn't "fail" everywhere he coached. He's an outstanding DC. If you mean just as a HC, he didn't fail at that either, but I guess that depends upon what you're definition of failure is. If failure isn't winning a SB, then you'll be hard pressed to find successful coaches. He had a winning record for his time spent in Buffalo.

Did he ever win a playoff game at least? There's a reason he was a head coach 3 times, and yes, failed each time.

ok, I wasn't trying to talk about anything else but Wade. But, seems this has gone way off track.

I wish I could just close this thread.

Of course...he was doing it because he was still a New York Giant and wanted to hurt the cowboys.

Ok...I am joking of course but there were actually people that believed that Bill was trying to screw us over in the past because of him still being a Giant.

wow. even as much as i hated parcells here - i never would think he would try to hurt a team he's trying to build. that only hurts him in the end. "fans" stupidity can hit new levels at times.

I would think it is obvious why he brought it up.

You may have had honest questions, opinions and intentions in your questioning post.

But let's not pretend you did not want to throw some chum out there to work the sharks up into a frenzy.

By your own start you wanted to throw some grist for the mill.

So not really a shocker when you give slanted statements trying to give mosquito bites instead of bee stings that someone would reply as they did.
BP, you know me man. Obviously I had a little fun with the piece and threw a couple light jabs in there. Hopefully people around here can appreciate the difference between trolling and a little good-natured off-season repartee?

If not, cool. If so, though ... the actual angle behind every question and thought in that post were sincere. I'm curious what the answers to some of the actual questions might be from the perspective of thinking Cowboys fans. Educate me. :)

Garrett's not "out sick" though. He's already in Dallas. If players don't give body and soul now, they weren't going to do so later anyway.
Wasn't talking about Garrett there. The "out sick" guy was Tuna. FWIW.

You bet I'm bummed Jones didn't hire Norv. It would have been epic. :)

As to bringing Snyder into the discussion already ... why? I was talking about Jones and what he's done with his team since firing one of the great personnel evaluator/head coaches of the modern era in Jimmy Johnson, for what appeared (from the outside at least) to be nothing more than ego. This latest move smacks of history repeating itself. I'm interested in hearing reasons why passionate Cowboy fans might see it otherwise.

When a view of history becomes myth, and myth becomes legend...

JJ and JJ had a mutual separation. It wasn't a one-sided ego trip. One didn't want to be here because he wanted to be in Miami, and the other one didn't want him here if he had doubts about their relationship and his commitment to the team.

As for the Snyder comment, there is no rule against denigrating another team's owner when a fan of that team does the same thing against the owner of the team I'm a fan of. It's kind of an eye for eye thing, except mine was just a statement of facts.

Hence the reason I said Mosquito bites instead of bee stings.

I'm not a fan of WP as a HC but he is a better option than Turner, imo.

I wanted a young up and coming coordinator for HC. Oh well, hope he can do better than BP and take us to the promise land.

If you're referring to my post, brother Bufford/Wheat ... who was it about? His relationship with the owner isn't germane to the discussion?

I guess what I can take from this is.

Some are excited because he's great with Defense, and many of you think the D was weak, late in the season.

Others aren't happy because Wade has a history of being a great Coord, but an average-at-best HC if you want to judge by postseason record and not stats.

I am not pleased with the hire, but I can live with it. As others have said, at least it wasn't Norv Turner. My preference was for either Mike Singletary, who I believe will be a great head coach some day, or Jason Garrett, who will eventually be the head coach here anyway.

I do think Wade will make the defense better next year. I believe Jerry will allow Garrett to effectively be the "coach of the offense".

My real problem with Phillips is that while he is a bright defensive mind, he's not a good team leader. He has zero charisma and he's going to be charged with coaching some very volatile personalities.

Anyway, as said elsewhere, Phillips is effectively the interim head coach and Garrett will have the reins within a few years.

Fair enough.

Assuming the Johnson/Jones split was unavoidable and not either's "fault" ... is there merit to the suggestion that it appeared Jones slowly assumed more and more control after that, up through the hiring of Parcells? And that it now looks like history might be repeating itself with Phillips?

As to Snyder ... I know all about myth becoming fact. In this specific case, however, your "fact" is incontrovertible. The team has in fact won just 2 playoff games in his 7 years. Which sucks. There are a lot of "myths" associated with the reasons for that as well. But let's save that for a Snyder discussion some other time. :)

I'm not flaming or trolling. You can ask the Mods. I'm not one of those jerks.

I just really am curious how you guys feel.

Its this somebody you want long term? Only for a few years? what does this mean for some of your younger players who have only known one system in the NFL?

If you feel its good, stand up and say it. Then tell me WHY its good.

Same if you feel its not.

Honestly, after listening to Galloway (Who I think is hilarious and awesome) call in to a local D.C. show yesterday. I thought it was Norv for sure. So, this is alittle shocking. But, not in a Ron Rivera, Mike Singletary way.

I think after a chunk of a season, and everybody learns the new system. Your D will be nasty.

What does this mean for Owens? Bledsoe? etc?

Anyways, congrats on getting this taken care of. I'm sure its a relief for a lot of you diehard fans.
I DO NOT like the hire. I DID NOT want a re-tread in here. Was looking for fresh-blood, someone w/ a new perspective. Jerry gets credit for being a daring, bold-oilman BUT he can't do the same as a football team owner?! see Steelers hire of Mike Tomlinson - NOW that's freakin' bold & courageous! What does JJ do? YAWN.....stick to the oil-business Jerry, stick to what your good at.

My preference was Mike Singletary, Ron Rivera, or Rex Ryan (couldn't even get a freakin' interview!).....

I had wanted Parcells to come back for one more year, but this is the next best option imo. The offense will stay the same (top 5 in the league) under Sparano's direction and Philips will "fix" the problems that the defense showed late last season. The best possible choice imo. He will probably get a 4 year contract but must win playoff games or even make a Superbowl appearance within 2 years. Which is fine with me.
