change is good, when it's the right change, GOd, I can't imagine what I would have done if NOrval was named HC

My any change is good change approach may have came to a screeching halt if Norv was named HC.

I don't think I've seen you when you weren't stoked......:laugh1:

Now would you care to elaborate as to why?

I know you finally got a chick to go out w/ya....:)

I like the move. My concern going into this offseason was predominantly on the defensive side of the ball. Hopefully the Cowboys can start using an attacking-style of 3-4, and use their talent a lot better than the read-and-react style of past years.

The question really is whether or not Sparano/Garrett can get the offense working well. I know some media-heads, such as Spagnola, were championing an offensive styled coach, stating that proper coaching/strategy on offense is much more important than the other side of the ball. To that, I point out the Detroit game.

I'm happy with the selection of Phillips, he is known as a players coach and of course a great defensive mind in the NFL. I do think he comes into a pressure cooker where expectations will be for this team to win right away unlike many new head coaches where they enter day 1 of a rebuilding phase.

Hey Schmitty!

Actually, I think Norv would've been worse, but Wade with Jerry taking back control isn't a huge improvement.

Howdy, VA.

Norv probably would have been worse, but this is merely the "less bad" of two bad options.

We all know what Wade is gonna do.

Probably go 10-6, lose in the wildcard.

Then go 8-8 sometime down the road and get fired.

We will have wasted 2-3 years and we'll be back looking for a new coach.

We're settling for mediocrity here. It's not going to end up in a championship. I'm sure this will be met with, "But Smitty, how do you KNOW THAT?! You Don't! roflmao ahahahahaha!111!11"

Don't fool yourself.

We hired a JAG.

We probably now have the worst head coach in the division. It's just not as simple as saying, "Well, he's gonna improve our defense, so now we're good to go."

He's not going to be able to keep the ship together, long term or short term, because he never has.

And we wonder why us and the Lions are the only two NFC teams not to win a playoff game in ten years.

I can't say I share your doom and gloom forcast and I'm not fooling myself. To fool myself would be to read this garbage and think you have a clue as to how Phillips will do in Dallas.

I'm happy with Wade...I really am. Right now looking at the division it will once again come down to Philly and us. I really do think that Phillips will improve the defense, so to me it will come down to how Garrett does as OC. I really think that Phillips style will be welcomed by the players and he will get more out of them...particularly TO.

You don't either.

But his history says, he can't get teams over the hump.

Even as a defensive coordinator... shockingly.... he was one and done this year. And he was with arguably the best team in the league.

Playoffs roll around and it's goose egg time.

Parcells could not here either. He deserves all the credit in the world for assembling the current roster, but he topped out here IMO.

They held the Patriots to 2.4 yards per carry and 5.4 yards per pass along with 3 takeaways.

Its not Wade's fault the Charger's offense coughed it up 4 times.

He also took over losing programs and got them to the post-season and yet many of those teams still lacked talent at some critical positions such as QB. To make a comment and not look deeper at each situation and then lableing him as some bust of a coach is foolish. I'm not predicting what the future holds for Phillips in Dallas but given the talent I see on this team I think he will have a chance to really show his ability as a HC.

Parcells isn't really relevant to the discussion. It doesn't matter who Wade inherited the job from.

It's for another debate whether it was time to move on from Parcells or not.

The question now is, can Wade Phillips get us over the hump?

Stops in Denver, Buffalo, and even San Diego scream "No." His best has always been a brief playoff appearance, and he's followed that up by swift downturns in both his head coaching gigs.

Maybe he pulls a 180 and shocks everyone, but I see no reason to ASSUME that he will.

Personally, I think anyone assuming that he will simply wants to believe in him.

No, and it wasn't his fault that he had a bad owner in Buffalo, and it wasn't his fault that he was in a bad situation following up Dan Reeves in Denver.

Give him a perfect situation and he'll succeed I guess.

But this isn't a perfect situation. He's got a time bomb in Owens here. He's got one of the worst GMs in football, if not the worst. He's saddled with some players on both offense and defense who are totally overrated yet we are pretty financially committed too.

Plenty of traps here for Wade. His history is that he's fallen in them.

Ok, so you are predicting what the future holds then.

Since he is the coach that Phillips is replacing he is very relevant. The players needed a change, the defensive scheme needed a change...we'll see now whether he gets over the top or not. I believe the defense will play at a higher level this year and with the continued development of Romo this team will have better results next year than they did this year.

There is always reason for hope. The defensive changes are enough for me to get me excited as I think the offense will continue to excel. Hopefully you will be able to make it through this experience as emotionally unscarred as possible.
