Good discussion guys I am learning a bunch.

We'll probably have a different game plan defensively vs the Eagles cuz their whole offense is about short dumpoff, but vs the Lions and in the playoffs keep an eye on James. Pretty sure he's the culprit.

I have all the games recorded so I am going to focus on James and see what you guys are talking about.

What I noticed in tape-review of the Saints game was that every time Ware (or whomever was playing lolb) rushed the QB, the inside backer on that side often ALSO rushed the QB, thus there was no "contain" in the flat. By the time the inside backer on that side had read the play, the FB was already past the LOS. The inside guy kept running into a bunch of players in front of him (I assume it was a pass-rush) and getting caught, thus being out of position. Now, not knowing what defense was called, I dunno who the culprit was.

One other thing that happened several times in the Saints game was that they would run this strange type of crossing route (which was almost a pick but wasn't) and it confused the living daylights out of our LB's and secondary, and that left the flats wide open.

I didn't tape the Falcons game, and I was drunk, so I dunno what happened there :)

thanks to Sean Payton teams will use the FB from here on out to beat us in the red zone and short yardage!!! the only reason they are doing that is because they feel their OL can protect without so much as a chip on the DL from the backs!

until this DL gives coaches a reason to keep backs in or at least check before leaving the backfield... the only thing we have is ATHLETISM!!! our guys have to beat their guys out of the backfield while minding their primary duties!

I know Ware can but I dont know if anyone else can... So I can imagine what the FAT BOY in Philly has in the game plan!!!

Like I've said a million times before...

Mora watched the Saints game and Zimmer didnt.

We never made any adjustments to covering FBs IN the Saints game OR the ATL game.

So hopefully this week we worked on it.

Parcells said it was the same player that blew the assignment in both games. The player was obviously assigned by Zimmer to make the play. He can't call the plays and run out on the field and execute them too.

Parcells has said a lot of things.

How many of them has he actually been 100% clear with.

I know we can only go on what he says but when it comes to BP its hard to overlook his previous reputation.

He said yesterday that it was two players doing two different things. From what we've looked at, he's talking about James and Fowler.

If it is James I think its bad choice for a 1 on 1 assignment even if it is just a FB.

James has been slow as of late and I dont trust him covering anything.

It would be nice if we could just trust him to be within ten yards of the receiver when he gets into the flat. They're fullbacks. James should be able to handle that.

I'm with you on that.

I wish and hope he gets the job done if he has an assignment like that.

Just IMO its been scary as of late.

I hope I am wrong.

Defense just needs to do a better of or reading the screen pass. Normally if a defense is can quickly read the screen it is not that hard to disrupt the play. It is not as easy as saying 1 man is responsible for the screen plays, lineman need to pull up and get back on the play as well but again it is recognizing that the screen is being set.

Well the good thing, as Parcells said yesterday, is that it is correctable.

It's not like he's being beat physically (although if he has to cover Westbrook on monday we're screwed). He's messing up mentally. He can fix that.

I think it was wrong word choice, dooms. I don't think we have alot of trouble with screen passes, except that one to Reggie. Most of the time our corners make great plays there, along with the LBs. It's the FB who fakes a block and rolls into the flat while the RB picks Ware up that we can't seem to even come close to defending.

The Eagle receivers are not that great of a threat; only Westbrook and Burkhalter are any kind of a threat- mainly Westbrook. Frankly I would put our best cover LB on Westbrook every single play. Never leave him open; never give him any room. Put our second best guy on Burkhalter when he is in the game. Man the WR;s; and brink Roy up close to blitz and patrol the middle. Whoever the FS is have him take the TE. Unorthodox but I think that then we can rush 5 guys just about full time; if we move ware around some we should be able to get to Garcia. Doing it this way should also help prevent any kind of long runs as well.
