How do we fix the screen pass problems?

He said yesterday that it was two players doing two different things. From what we've looked at, he's talking about James and Fowler.
I remember him saying that it was a single player blowing coverages on the full-back or in the flat. I didn't listen to yesterday's press conference so this must have been a different one. Then again, I could simply dreamed it up. I do that sometimes -- remember things that didn't happen.

The one you heard was before Atlanta. Someone else got in on the screw-ups in the Atlanta game.

Gotcha. Just listened to it. Well, the point still stands. The assignment was made and busted. Zimmer can't call the play and execute himself.

Our defense sure has a lot of busted coverages for how good we're supposed to be. That has to be a reflection of poor coaching.

Or stupid mental mistakes. You can draw up the play, teach it, practice it, beat it into the minds of the players, but if a player makes a mental mistake on the field what are you supposed to do?

The fact that two different guys have blown the same coverage after having been beat over the head with it in the last two games, you would think it would come down to how it's being taught. Either that or we have a defense of morons.

I think early in the season the players were over aggressive and getting burned on any type of misdirection play. They're definitely getting better at that as the season goes on.

Anybody else think that Ayodele seems to excel in coverage (for a MLB)?

I agree the coach can do so much the player has to go out and perform.

In my opinion, twice isn't exactly a trend. If a mistake happened 4 or 5 weeks in a row, then you can start to see a trend.

I understand what you are saying, but damn if they keep screwing up like they have...we have some pretty dumb players.

How do we fix the screen pass problems? Yes I did read many of the post here however I was addressing the title of the thread. Is that a problem?

Oooooo... so scary.

And what if it is a problem? What are you gonna do about it, tough guy?

The season is only 16 games long. It doesn't have to be that many games in a row to become a trend.

And just cuz teams are just now starting to take advantage of this mistake, doesn't mean the mistake wasn't already happening before.

IMO, 3 games... it's a trend. And I'm pretty sure the NO game isn't the first time. It's just the first time it burned us.

Let's not split hairs.

My point is the mistake that showed up in the NO game was likely already there. It's just the NO game was the first time it showed.

Agreed. It happened what three times in the NO game and what twice in the Atlanta game with one of them called back.

And I'm sure it happened before in the season

It's a problem.

If that's the case, then it would be a trend. I haven't seen anything to show that that's the case, though.

It showed in the preseason. It's been there all along, NO just exploited it.

Linebackers have been blowing this same coverage assignment all season?:eek::eek:

No. But they did it preseason. It was like we didn’t care about the flats at all. Notice how I said NO was the first to exploit it in the regular season.

Most likely. Or else why would NO make it a point to attack that area?

I'm sure they don't blow that assignment EVERY time, but often enough for Peyton to think it was a "trend".

;)

I agree that the flats have been a soft spot for us, but that's always going to be the case if you're corners are manned up and you OLB is rushing the QB. I haven't seen backs come out of the backfield completely uncovered because of a blown assignment before NO, though. Maybe in the pre-season, but my memory isn't that good.
