SF does not seem to have taken years to rebound though Lance is about to enter year 3 hardly taking a snap. I believe that most GM’s take big swings on young QB prospects trying to hit on an elite QB, but usually just get a good QB. If the roster isn’t stacked, the good QB looks like trash. The GM gets fired for giving up too many premium picks for a QB and having no real roster support. Then the thing starts over. Washington for some reason neglects the offensive line and the offensive unit in general (maybe because the head coach is a defensive specialist).

There’s great risk in big investments. The Cowboys trade in the money market easy money. The Chiefs trade on the stock market and bet heavy on a fairly high draft cost QB, and is now trouncing the league with him. It is not easy, but it obviously can work out. It also does not mean disaster if you miss (see SF protecting themselves by continuing to invest in the lines of scrimmage).
San Francisco tried to improve on Jimmy G who was pretty darn good and ended up with something worse in Trey Lance at least so far and they paid a heavy price. Sometimes it’s better just to stay with pretty darn good. It appears Lance and Purdy will compete this summer. You simply don’t take a big risk if you have one of the better QBs in the league. If you try and get better you could end up getting worse. If you can’t make the playoffs with the QB you have then you start gambling. When you’ve reached that point, you have nothing to lose.

Yeah, I disagree. I think a team should move on from a QB if they are unable to move further in the postseason after giving said QB ample opportunity with similar results (especially with regards to offensive struggles at the QB position). I would say 5-6 seasons starting with any QB gives you plenty of information as to trajectory. If the team was progressing instead of stalling, then I would agree with you.

The team does not seem to be building forward momentum, but plateauing.

Jimmy G was decent. Purdy seems to be decent. Lance (who knows). Farve and Rodgers were played another 3 years after drafting their replacement. Even though their successor was drafted in the first round. I doubt that Dak lasts into his late 30’s unless the Cowboys devote tons of resources building a dominant rushing attack. He’s not like these other QB’s playing into their late 30’s-his play style is quite different. I still say max for Dak is 5 more seasons. That’s only if the team keeps producing winning regular seasons with him.

We’ve exhausted this. We’ll just agree to disagree.

The 49ers were looking for someone better than Jimmy G and ended up with someone worse and they gave up the farm to get him. They ended up finding someone better than both QBs they had with the last pick in the entire draft. You don’t waste a high pick on a QB unless you absolutely need one. Nothing wrong with taking flyers on QBs later in the draft. That’s how we ended up with Dak.

Dude, the 49ers gave up the house to draft Trey Lance and then lucked into Purdy starting. Let's not act like Burdy being their starting QB was part of an unconventional model for the QB position.
Isn't it interesting how they gave up so much but still remain at the top or close to it. And they also drafted Purdy when they already had Lance and Jimmy G. This past off season they went out and signed Sam Darnold. They are a team that is not content to sit on their hands when it comes to QBs.

No Young or Montana so all value goes to the roster players, Hey, I still trust the Cowboys offense to create a positive side to score comparisons now!

LOL...... as stated before, Purdy starting for them is pure luck, the same that happened with Dak for us. No way in hell they expect him to beat out Lance and/or Jimmy G. So again, this isn't some new model for the 49ers at the QB position. They blew it on Lance......and to be honest, we need to see more of Purdy to know if he's the real deal.

The San Francisco 49ers selected Purdy with the final pick (262nd overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft, making him that year's Mr. Irrelevant.[37]

But the point I was making is they continue to draft and bring in QBs. I'm really interested to see what Shanahan can do with Sam Darnold. I think he has potential under the the right coach.

If the Cowboys ever trade for a new QB or part ways with Dak you’ll stop coming here. You only come here for one reason.

Only Jerry Jones knows. Although it should be pointed out Prescott has been the starters for years longer than some of his critics predicted. That makes sense because the predictions totally dismiss(ed) Jones' history with the quarterback position.

This is the tenth Dak thread on the front page.

It’s simply ridiculous that this happens.

They should all be combined into a Dak mega thread
Sorta like they did on dallascowboys.com when they had a chatboard on it. They made a mega page for Tony Romo.

He wouldn't be on the roster right now if it were up to me, so I can't say how much longer he will be a starter.
