I don't feel Gregory suspension will feel significant after camp

I keep hearing about these amazing coaching jobs that Marinelli does with these no-name players, but it never shows up during the season. I like the 4-3 defense, but his system seems outdated at times.

I agree. Rod has done a pretty good job like one season outta how many with the Cowboys? Yet every offseason, Rod is this miracle worker.

Now the Patriots defense always seems to have more nobodies than All-Pro's, and they always come up big. Marinelli and the players better do something right, or it's going to be yet another season with the offense trying to carry the entire team.

I just think the leagues substance abuse policy is a joke. They basically tell players not to smoke weed, but the massive amounts of opiates team doctors provide is just fine. I get the legal aspects of it, But its seems silly that these players are getting 4 games to a year long suspension for weed. It's like, don't smoke weed, pop these pills instead.

I bet Mayowa starts all year at RDE.

He still has to beat out McAdoo first. And thats just in first 4 games. Mayowa will not beat out Demarcus Lawrence for RDE, never mind Gregory, for remainder of season.

Unless you have inside info on injury or suspension extension.

This is why I'm not buying any hype with this team anymore. I can't respect a team playing defense just giving away yards. Spare me with the bend don't break crap. Pittsburgh had a weak secondary and were aggressive all year. I hate this team sometimes

oh, and Old Cowboy, Mark Stepnoski gives him an attaboy.
Gregory is gonna tear camp up...preseason as well. Hate that he will have to sit 4 games. Losing any all momentum coming out of the offseason. Caused by his own actions. Smh...
And that does what for the "W" column, exactly?

If you have DLaw at RDE who is playing LDE?

The development of a player from year 1 to year 2 in the NFL is generally a big leap. If that same player was viewed as a blue chip prospect skill-wise, then it can affect the "W" column. DLaw improved from his rookie year to year 2 and it was obvious to see he was a better player and pass rusher. I don't think DLaw has the same ability or upside as Gregory. Gregory is a blue chip player. I believe that Gregory will make a huge jump now that he is acclimated to the NFL speed and size.

Within my initial post, I did also express disappointment that after showing the gains he's made in camp against an All-Pro LT in Smith no less, and in preseason, Gregory will undermine any momentum because he must sit 4 games. I acknowledged that the suspension is due to Gregory's own volition. However, what I have not done is act as if he is suspended for 10 games or for the season. He will miss 4 games and have 12 games (at minimum) to be a factor in...do I wish he could play all 16...of course. Do I wish Dallas and the fan base could trust him? Of course. But, I still have a feeling this kid is going to have a big offseason and 2016 regular season and Playoffs.

I am not sure why we are in semi-panic mode at DE in part because of Randy Gregory suspension. Not sure how Gregory was handed starting job because he certainly didn't earn it. Dallas is going to camp with alot of young talent and I like Marinelli coaching ability with unknown young players. I would not trade Leary or sign FA until you know what they have in: Russell, Mayowa, Irving & Charles Tapper. Here is fearless prediction: Jack Crawford will unseat Randy Gregory as starting DE coming out of training camp and thus making Gregory suspension insignificant.

Lets see, take Gregory's sack total and multiply it by 1,000,000 and that's how many sacks we're going to miss with him being suspended.

In Gregory's case, where he came in with a failed test and failed multiple others? Where he's one more failed test from missing a year? Where he's now a player the team can't possibly depend on?

I think it's very accurate to call the pick a bust. More apt than any other description in fact.

No you can't. His 2nd year in the league you cant call him a bust.

I think that's a myth. Last year, he had Lawrence, a player the team gave up a 2nd and 3rd round pick to get. He also had Randy Gregory, considered the top pass rusher in the draft (who ended up with 0 sacks), as well as Greg Hardy, the top pass rusher available and a 15-sack, Pro Bowl talent.

And his group still underachieved.

Time to face facts.

Like I stated above, I'm not a big Maranelli fan. Didn't like Kiffins lack of aggressiveness and I feel like Maranelli is following that same blueprint. I wouldn't be upset at a coaching change there. Fan of the guy but not of his scheme that I think may be outdated.

I'm not sure how much we are suppose to blame Maranelli for his defensive end unit either being too young in Lawrence and Gregory or a Hardy being rusty a year removed from football or Tyrone Crawford being injured.

Are these excuses? Maybe. I think they are valid though. This was always a make or break year for Maranelli IMO. His defensive end unit may have been underwhelming but his defensive unit good enough to win despite getting NOTHING from the offense.

I'm not sure how much premier talent Maranelli has on the defensive line. I don't look at those guys and see players giving up or not playing.

Any coach can look good with great talent. If Marinelli was as good as advertised, you would see him developing some players.

He's gotten some decent years out of guys no one expected. He made Hatcher a Pro Bowler.....he leaves here and looks pedestrian. He had Bruce Carter and Durant looking good. George Selvie had some years. I know we hate Hayden here but even as bad as he was at times Maranelli made him a serviceable linemen in this league.

Cause they all suck. First, none of our DEs are starting quality DEs, they are good back up types ( second and third tier guys). Second, " young" means nothing without talent and production. Our 9 DEs have combined for a total of 14 sacks. Lolololol. Third, ever year we get " hyped up" about our awesome DLine picks who " shine" in camp. Boatright, Whaley, Ben bass ect. We need to realize if they where UDFAs, late round picks, or on other teams practice squads, there probably was a reason. I'm tired of dumpster diving, I want first round DLine talent and Prowbowl free agents signed. Don't tell me there's a salary cap, it's a myth and every year it goes up 10 million.

The salary cap isn't a myth lol.

The kid gets high once more and he's looking at 10 games. Zero help to his team and teammates.

I had high hopes as well.

He obviously doesn't. That's all I'm saying.

FTR - I agree with your Lawrence assessment.............

I totally understand where you're coming from Seven. He needs to earn the trust of the organization, his teammates and the fans.

Or...he better wish for every state in the Union legalizing MJ and the League eliminating it from the suspension worthy substances. Lol
