Seriously, forgive Terrell Owens for what?

I never wanted the guy on this team because I thought he would rip the locker room in half and be a huge distraction.

However, I never thought he did anything so serious that he needed to be forgiven.

It's odd that we are still talking about this in 2008, the guy is a Dallas Cowboy and has been making plays since the first day he stepped on the field.

True, but what's Jerry's excuse. FYI, they just released another one (this time four minutes long). Much better than the first ad, but still disappointing.

I really understand some of you guys sentiments towards T. O., however, I have a question. What have he done to deserve so much grief from so many? He has never done anything to be arrested for; we have never heard of him busting up a club or any type of disorderly conduct; we have never heard of any abuse toward women or kids, no illegitimate kids or child custody battles. Other than the accidental overdose, we have never heard of any alcohol or drug abuse. Yes we have heard of antics on the field that may have caused the team penalties or himself alot of money. And yes he's cocky and brash and thinks he's God's gift to WR. And to be honest, I would not want him any other way.

Now, do the media publicize all the charity programs and kid's events that he sponsor or attend. Did you hear alot about the good Samaritan act he did when the guy was hit by Hit & Run driver after the ESPY's. So please explain to me what have he done so bad that he deserve to be crucified. He has been a winner everywhere he has been in the pros. And trust me, all that happen in Phillie was not all on him. But like always he will recieve all the blame. Just my take on it. Accepted it or not! BTW, I have two TO jerseys (1 being his PRO BOWL) that I wear proudly. And like one other board member stated, I have no problem using his life to share with my kids the positives and negatives of life.

While practicing with the Arizona Cardinals during the summer of 2003, Emmitt Smith made the following comments to Sports Illustrated's Peter King:

"[2002] was the worst year I ever went through playing football. Too much damn drama. Too much selfishness by too many guys on the team. Too much media frenzy around the team. People always looking to me for answers, and I didn't have the answers for them about why we were so bad. It felt like being a diamond surrounded by trash. It was just a mental grind. When I got the record, it was like God said, 'I'm going to give you one moment this year.'"

A lot of discussion was created out of those comments. Here's my question:

What were your thoughts?

If you were too young to remember, nevermind.

to be honest i'm 20 soon to be 21...i was maybe 16-15 around that time? ok whatever

anyways when i heard he made those statements the diamond surrounded by trash..i felt he was being disrespectful to all of the cowboys PLAYERS.....and if i were 1 of them....id probably put my fist in his mouth.....

but i was never like..."get him off the damn team" and i still don't hold a grudge against him

i suspect you went through things in your life and that why, you are the way you are....the only way i wouldn't forgive someone is if they did things to harm my family members or anyone for that fact, intentionally...TO is not a thug...hes not a dirty player....like someone said..its a logo n a sport....there are people who actually commit crimes in this world...TO is a kid at heart just having fun

Edit-for the record 700 in my name is just a number i made up....

Why? If you were one of the players, why would you 'probably put my fist in his mouth'?

As a Dallas Cowboy, Emmitt Smith actually helped this team win not one or two, but three Super Bowls. And yet, you had a momentary negative reaction to what he said to Peter King, a sports columnist.

The players weren't physically harmed by Smith's words, so what gives? What he said didn't change what Smith had and still meant for this franchise, namely, one of the most legendary Cowboys players of all-time. And yet, you wanted to punch him. Interesting.

Thanks for the reply.

Yep. Owens is a kid at heart who has full unquestionable understanding that during a game, he knowingly commits unsportsmanlike conduct penalties which could possibly give an opponent a better opportunity to score and maybe effect the outcome of a game. Even though it's totally unnecessary and runs contrary to the philosophy of winning a game without knowingly doing anything negative to prevent that from happening.

That is correct, right? Or am I wrong?

Huh?

I still get nervous over whether or not Owens has antics and blow ups up his sleeve. However-we would be 8-8(maybe) without him.

In the end, I can't complain.

Mods, why does the site sometimes log me out if I’m about to post a very long reply?

Oh well, let’s condense it somewhat and hope for the best.

Why do you feel “crazy”? I only wanted to read your reactions concerning Smith’s comments. “Crazy?” Over what? Terrell Owens, perhaps?

So, the only negativity that can be expressed to another individual is IF they’re a thug?

That’s quaint.

Let’s not bring my wife or my mother into this discussion, shall we? Terrell Owens isn’t really worth it, is he? Would you care that I respond in kind and make references to your loved ones?

[edit]I don’t think you would.

Terrell Owens does some good samaritian work in the here-and-now and presto! Everyone develops amnesia.

I remember disliking Terrell Owens for making an *** of himself on national television towards the coaching staffs of the 49ers and Eagles.

Poof! What was I saying?

I remember disliking Terrell Owens for antics such as conducting ludicrous and unnecessary news conferences in the middle of his driveway, complete with weight sets no less.

Shazam! Wha..?

I remember disliking Terrell Owens telling the American people on national television that he thought (complete with real live tears!) that the Eagles seven-year, $49 million dollar contract would not be enough to feed his family. Wow, the poor in this country alone should have applauded Terrell Owens for that kind of honesty.

Cha-Ching! Huh? Thought I heard money..?

Anyhoo, I am a hypocrite.

Let me repeat myself. I am a hypocrite.

Please post this again, but remember to not go crazy over it.

Still, I must point out that while someone such as BigDFan5 or Bob Sacamano can be applauded for correctly labeling me as such, it’s acknowledgeable due to them stating so as Dallas Cowboys fans first and Terrell Owens fans second. They might disagree with me on that, but I doubt it from what I’ve observed of their past commentary.

You, on the other hand, could be characterized as a Terrell Owens’ butt-kisser who, if someone other than yourself doesn’t “root” for him just like you do, goes crazy with confusion.

You can call me a hypocrite all day. Knock yourself out. Terrell Owens would be proud… you know… if he had the tiniest clue of how well you were defending him. :)

Is this turning into a trend? Can we discuss Terrell Owens without inferring about someone other than posters on this forum? And now, pets are getting thrown in too

Defending Owens? nooo im just saying you are 1 emotional guy to be holding a grudge over someone you don't know......people Diss Henry sometimes...i dont defend him....i like him....the reason you think im defending owens, is because im telling you, you have real issues getting mad at a guy who use to ACT arrogant n childish.....im not saying he has to be a thug in order to hate him, stop being ignorant, for a grown man you are acting a lot like the Terrel Owens you hate

I'm saying the way you hate Terrel, and are holding a grudge, is as if he's some low life scum bag criminal.....haterd i see in your post i can see has nothin to do with his antics, it goes deeper...or you are just easily pushed....

yea your right he doesnt know me....im not defending him, im just calling you out for being a grown baby over a damn sport....im 20...your what in your 30's? and you act like such a big whiney baby hating the guts of a player you don't know?

and just like you said..... you keep telling everyone "ill never forgive or root for owens" like he cares...im tryna help you seethe light, there are more important things in life, and bigger things happening in todays world, besides "not forgiving owens, because he stood on our star" stop tryna bring up his other antics, thats the reason you hate him and you know it....ill be the bigger 20 yr old young man and leave it alone....n know this is just the net

but like i said, we all know you sit there in your boxers eating Cereal n Crackers....watching the cowboys, and rooting for Owens when he scores.....you can keep acting like you dont get happy over the net....but i doubt you sit there with a blank face when he scores...get real

I wish he would just dissapear. Most of you are going to bash me and tell me to get over it. First, I will never get over it. Second, I don't care if you bash me cause I really don't give a damn. Is it really that serious? Are you actually that pissed off, or are you actually using your dislike of Owens as a cover up for some other underlying inferiority complex? Often, the ones that people hate the most are the ones that they want to be the most....

EDIT: http://www.geocities.com/dallaseast1701/Quote.wav

This obviously goes beyond the standing on the star incident for you. Do you care to explain exactly what it is about Owens those causes such reaction from you?

AsthmaField;2255776 said:
T.O. is a Cowboy, so I pull for him to do well. Do I like him as a person? Not that much, although he does seem ok.

I was upset when he did what he did on the Star, but after all is said and done... it's just a game and a sports logo. There is plenty done worse than that every day.

Truth is... if we got to know the entire team personally, there would probably be 20 or so guys on the team that we wouldn't like. You could probably take any year's team and get to know those guys and have a group that you just wouldn't like.

Charles Haley, for instance. He was one of my favorite players on those 90's super bowl teams. He was awesome. One of the best pass rushers that I've ever seen, and he had a nasty attitude that the great defenders need to have. I loved Dallas having him as our RDE. If Sir Charles got pissed at me in an airport or something, cornered me, threatened to whip my ***, and then went and urinated on the hood of my car, would I still have loved him? I doubt it.

Yet, Charles actually did things just like that. He just didn't do it to me or where I could witness it. Therefore, he was still one of my favorite players.

I'm sure that every team has good guys (according to me or you) and bad guys (according to me or you). However, even though every Dallas team through the years has had people that I wouldn't like on it... I still never said that I wasn't going to pull for Dallas because of them. Heck no. I pulled for Dallas every season, 100%. Just like I do now, with T.O.

Am I glad T.O. is on the team? Yeah. He's a heck of a player and he helps the team immensely. Am I glad that he seems to be maturing? Yeah, I am.

I knew Haley was a ****... but did I ever want him off the team? No. He was a great player and I was glad he was there. Frankly, I don't think we would have won like we did in the 90's without him. He scared the **** out of opposing teams. We all loved how mean he was. You don't play that mad and that mean without being a jerk... yet we all loved having him in Dallas.

Seems to me that you can't have loved having Haley here, wreaking havoc... and not appreciate what T.O. does for us as well. I mean, Haley threatened one of his coaches and pee'd on a teammates car... Owens simply scored a TD and posed on the opposing team's logo.

How can you dislike TO and not hate Haley more?

That's just my take on the situation. Other's may not agree with it...

I'm fine with T.O. on the team. Just like I was Haley and Hollywood Henderson and Irvin and...

Excellent post. Very well said.

I have numbers in my name, so I assume I am qualified to answer. I was pissed at Smith for those comments. I thought that he called out his former teammates and made it appear as if he was above everyone else. It was an extremely arrogant comment to make. The part that made me upset about his comment was that he admitted that the team looked up to him for answers and admitted that he could not answer those questions. Instead of taking responsibility for his lack in ability to provide leadership to those that were looking up to him, he copped out by spewing insults. Sure, I didn't like those comments he made, but it never caused me to hate him. I still love him as a Cowboy and am glad that we signed him so that he could retire as a member of our team.

Actually, I was more upset at the Cowboys secondary for sucking so bad and allowing Owens to score that long TD. Maybe they should have done their job and we would not have had to worry about him disrespecting anything.

Defending Owens? nooo im just saying you are 1 emotional guy to be holding a grudge over someone you don't know......
You’re defending Owens. I haven’t said saying anything about Owens football skills or how he’s not an asset to the team’s offense. In fact, I’ve said the opposite about Owens and still you have a problem with my view of him as a person. So, why are you arguing? Where is your football argument?

Answer: You have none. Your argument with me is your personal feelings about Owens, the exact argument you’re accusing me of.

people Diss Henry sometimes...i dont defend him....i like him....
You have argued with others about Anthony Henry’s value in the defense such as how Eduncan22 would downplay him in relation to Jacques Reeves. I’m not arguing about Owens football abilities and yet how are you interacting with me? Again, where is your football argument with me?
Terence Newman700;2256757 said:
the reason you think im defending owens, is because im telling you, you have real issues getting mad at a guy who use ACT arrogant n childish.....
And what do you seek to GAIN??? Spit it out man.

imnot saying he has to be a thug in order to hate him, stop being ignorant, for a grown man you are acting a lot like the Terrel Owens you hate
For me to act a lot like Terrell Owens is for me to call a lot of unwarranted attention to myself. If not for your replies, I wouldn’t be discussing Terrell Owens whatsoever.

Terence Newman700;2256757 said:
I'm saying the way you hate Terrel, and are holding a grudge, is as if he's some low life scum bag criminal.....haterd i see in your post i can see has nothin to do with his antics, it goes deeper...or you are just easily pushed....
You don’t understand the concept of individuality.

You keep repeating that I’m acting etc., etc. You have got to stop arguing about someone else’s perceptions from your own. Your arguments will not be relevant until you do. Just a suggestion.
Terence Newman700;2256757 said:
yea your right he doesnt know me....im not defending him, im just calling you out for being a grown baby over a damn sport....im 20...your what in your 30's? and you act like such a big whiney baby hating the guts of a player you don't know?
I know all that I need of Owens.

Whiney?

You keep bring him up? Who is really whining here? If you wish to prove that I’m whining about Owens, how about testing that theory by shutting up and seeing if I continue YOUR argument without you re-addressing it over and over again?
Terence Newman700;2256757 said:
and just like you said..... you keep telling everyone "ill never forgive or root for owens" like he cares...im tryna help you seethe light, there are more important things in life, and bigger things happening in todays world, besides "not forgiving owens, because he stood on our star" stop tryna bring up his other antics, thats the reason you hate him and you know it....ill be the bigger 20 young man and leave it alone....n know this is just the net
You couldn’t teach me squat.

The world’s much bigger than your naiveté has grown to understand. Give yourself time and you’ll eventually learn.

Me?

Don’t worry about me. Terrell Owens doesn’t. Again, why do you?
Terence Newman700;2256757 said:
but like i said, we all know you sit there in your boxers eating Cereal n Crackers....watching the cowboys, and rooting for Owens when he scores.....you can keep acting like you dont get happy over the net....but i doubt you sit there with a blank face when he scores...get real
Just what the blue hell is “Cereal n Crackers”???

Keep believing what you what in opposition to what I’ve told you. That’s very realistic. That kind of personal philosophy will be rudely shaken as you get older and interact with more individuals in the REAL world.
