33 receptions (barely over 2 per game)

8 TDs (the important stat)

Didn't Alvin Harper post similar numbers in a season?

EDIT: Nevermind. This fact has already been mentioned.

So I guess the real question then is....

Is Miles Austin Alvin Harper?

If he is, then it seems relevant to me. If not, then I don't see what Harper did as really all that relevant to Austin.

Assuming there is a point being made in this thread.

If its just asking the question (and no point is being made), then yes, I'd be happy with those numbers from Austin.

I'd be happy with 30 catches, 500 yards, and 5-6 TDs to be honest. So, I'd be pretty stoked if he put up those numbers. Hopefully he does.
That's the question I wanted to get to.

I think Austin shows very similar traits to what Harper brought to this team in the 90's and that is why Jerry and Company were okay with moving forward. Similar size, similar explosiveness, similar yards per catch.

Was Harper a difference maker? You bet, but not on the stats pages. Austin can perform a similar job.

I'd love for Austin to have a break out year. 60 catches,800+ yards, and 10 tds.He has the potential to do that, lets just see if its possible.

Unless Roy Williams turns out to be Michael Irvin 2, Miles Austin had better be better than Alvin Harper.

Harper was a speedy decoy with bad hands. He would have a great game once in awhile and then next to nothing. Well, except for the decoy thing. I think Austin can easilly turn out better. Except maybe not 25 yards a catch better. A little harder to do nowadays.

Yes I would take those stats as long as Roy Williams is putting up over 1,000 yards and 12 TD's opposite of him.

I understand the logic but Alvin Harper was surrounded by 3 Hall of Famers. I just never feel good about comparing any part of this team to the 90s Team. Also a different time, different offense, different everything. And i also remember when teams started to game plan to take Irvin out and Williams could never really step up to take the pressure off. A #2 Reciever is important in this day an age of a pass happy league. That said, i do believe Austin will be better than Harper was even without the same numbers.

Nope. I need more out of my number 2. Barber had a ton of TDs but he's an average back at best so TDs don't mean everything.

I think he will exceed the yardage and TDs, but have around 60 to 70 catches. Witten, Bennett, and Crayton will all produce. I think the RBs will contribute tot he passing game more than last year.

So basically u think Austin can avg 24 yards a catch and RW avg around 18-22 yards a catch, if that happens we will go at worse 14-2.

I think neither will happen. I do think Austin can avg around 15 yards a catch. Harper had speed and great leaping ability and to top it off had great hands. Austin has not showed me nothing but above avg speed....

I can see stats like this for our receiving corps---

Austin 40 catches 600 yards 5 tds
RW 73 catches 1234 yards 9 tds
Crayton 43 catches 484 yards 4 tds
Witten 85 catches 934 yards 5 tds
Bennett 40 catches 500 yards 5 tds

Remember that the current offensive squad must put up significantly more numbers to make up for the careless turnovers, poor special teams, and big play yielding defense. All symptoms of a poorly coached team.

First of all I do not own smoking. It isn't mine.

Second of all I don't smoke.

Last of all, if you read the rest of the thread I was wondering if you'd tell us what the egg on the face feels like?

At a time when our Offense was virtually unstoppable, the #2 WR was not a Terry Glenn type producer.

Here is the thing that people need to understand when thinking about the stats the Crayton or anyone else in our offense puts up as the #2 WR.

The when TO and Terry Glenn were both posted 70+ catch, 1,000+ yard seasons, Jason Witten only posted a 64-754-1 season.

There simply are not enough balls to go around for Dallas to have 3 guys post 70+, 1000+ yard seasons. Is Crayton a great, #2, absolutely not, and he can definitely be upgraded. But, you put him on a team with a great receiving TE like Jason Witten, he is a very serviceable #2 WR.

Alvin Harper, 1994.

The only problem with is... Romo aint no Aikman.

Its a dream.
A good dream... but a dream nonetheless.

I would be surprised if he had 16 catches. Who knows how many games he plays in as well. We have proven that we can gameplan for opposing defenses. Our WR's can be taken out of the game and minimalized, marginalized. I could see Miles having zero catches in multiple games.

We dont have a run blocking line. That affects everything. Nothing has changed there.

.

You're right, he's blown Aikman away in every statistical category possible his first 2.5 seasons as a starter.

And no, before the riot gear comes out I'm not saying Romo>Aikman and I get Playoff wins > all and yada yada yada.

But what we are discussing here is our #2 WR's production over the course of the season, and I think Troy would be the first to tell you that there is nothing in Romo's play that is going to hold back Miles Austin.

December and the playoffs is another animal - I get it - but saying that we can't win with Romo or that he is not able to rack up yardage and points over the course of a year is just silly given what he has accomplished over 39 games.

You might have a better point with the offensive line, which is clearly not in the same class as Aikman enjoyed.

Na, I'll just read the first post...and I'll take whatever got you thinking Austin would put up numbers like that.

Good thread Hos, it's possible but I think the ypc is a bit high. And it would be more appropriate to ask what Clove is smoking Daboys4life.
