If Cam Newton is on the board for Dallas in the NFL draft next year...

Exactly.

Not so sure why everyone is marrying themselves to the proven losers on this team currently.

Because to not commit in full to all players on your favorite team, is trolling and frowned upon. Duh.......

Because they're not "black" the color. I recently had this discussion over a few drinks with a few of my "black" friends and they said that like to be called African American rather than "black" regardless of whether they're from Africa or not.

It's my lame attempt to be PC.

I'd like to be called, "Supreme ruler of the Universe."

Newton's stock is rising and could potentially skyrocket if he plays well and leads his team to a national championship. My hope would be that either he is selected before the Dallas pick (pushing another good player down to them) or Dallas could leverage a trade for a team that wants him (for a king's ransom in draft picks). When a team needs a QB, they are often willing to pay a very high price. The Cowboys should take advantage if that option is available.

You may be right. He does have a strong arm. He needs work on his footwork. He doesn't know how to drop back properly. I seriously doubt he can read defenses. He won't be able to run as well in the pros. He is much faster than he looks but he's not fast enough to run away from many DEs and LBs in the pros.

One of the concerns I have about his development is that his mechanics might have to be broken down and built back up rather than just tweaked. Right now he can make some unbelievable throws into some tight spots.

Also, his ability to run puts opposing defenses in a compromising position. That goes away in the NFL, although he will have Rodgers-like capabilities of making a play if the defense gets out of their rushing lanes. I do like that he uses his escapability to throw at times rather than always running. The combination of his arm and his legs could allow him to make some big plays down the field.

Bottom line, the kid is a great athlete with some character questions. He's played in a simple passing offense that puts pressure on the defense by threatening lots of different runs. Huge project with tremendous upside.

I don't get the Cam hate in this thread. I don't know how smart he is or isn't, but his arm is fantastic, he rarely makes bad throws at the college level, and he's 6'5" 240lbs and runs a 4.5 40.

He might be a terrible person, but I wouldn't be knockin his talent.

There's no way Dallas is going to draft him, however. Some of ya'll need to put down the purple drank.

I basically agree with you but I see him as a big risk esp where he'll probably go. Someone will likely take the risk though. I'd stay away. Romo is a better QB by far and I suspect Newton will never reach his level. I do think he may have some success in the NFL over the long haul though.

No way.

One's passes looks like punts. The other appears to be able to throw a ball through a brick wall.

This. Tebow's footwork, windup, and delivery all need work. Cam Newton's does not.

That takes away your credibility with me.

Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see what happens with rookie contracts. I can't see taking Newton with a top-10 pick under the current financial reality because I think he's three years away from seeing the field.

Tebow fan?

Well, since it seems Newton can only be compared to other African American black QBs I'd say he looks better than Josh Freeman.

Not at all although they're not too different. I think Newton has a better arm and is faster than Tebow. I'm still not a big fan of Newton for the pros although he could develop over time.

Put me on record as saying he will be a solid NFL QB.

He is nothing like Young or Russell.

Just refer to me as black. Africans would probably find me rather American. :D

Payton Manning is a European American.

well thats not really fair, how many 240+ white QBs do you see that make plays running and throwing? lets be honest, there is a 'type' when it comes to black QBs that have even moderate success in the nfl. or ones that dont but get drafted high for that matter.

with that said i think he compares well to, and can the same career as, mcnabb:D
