If Cam Newton is on the board for Dallas in the NFL draft next year...

Put me on record as saying he will be a solid NFL QB.

He is nothing like Young or Russell.

agreed

I mean seriously... He is one of the more physically gifted QBs I've seen.

He'll be a heck of a NFL player.

If Cam Newton was available in the 2nd or 3rd? Sure.

For a 1st? No, especially if Peterson, Amukamara, or Sherrod is on the board. Only QB i'd blindly take is Luck. For the others(Newton, Mallet, Locker) you can take advantage of some desperate team like the 49ers, vikings, etc looking for a qb and get some picks out of it.

Yeah and he'll be a top pick so no shot at us getting him.

Definetely a franchise QB so he'll go high.

Hes 6'6, 240 pounds and runs a 4.42.

Impressive,

One of the QBs whos Newton's play style is similar to is one we are all very familiar with, Tony Romo. Romos very undersized compared to the monster Newton, but they are both elusive qbs who extend plays with their legs by evading pressure and rolling out of the pocket.

Secondly it is Ben Roethlisberger they both have rocket arms and are huge, Newton is simply much quicker than Roethlisberger.

and third, and the best comparision possible is; Josh Freeman, the same size, the only difference is 2 pounds. Both play very similary, newtons faster but Freemans not a slowpoke.

overall, Newton has off the field issues and thats horid for a NFLQB, physically he is as gifted as JaMarcus Russel, but he has the same question marks that Russel had. It is fair to assume he will be the next Russel, but he DOES have to tools to be a top 5, franchise QB in the NFL.

In the 2nd you take him, in the 1st you pass. Too many questions and we aren't in need of a QB, obviously.

Project. Don't need him and don't want him. He would need two or more years of work just like Romo did to be good on the field. His mechanics and footwork cannot be changed over night; and many never will change. Outside of John Elway and Steve Young, show me another QB with incredible physical skills that made it huge in the pros. Jeff George, Jumongus, Ryan Leaf, the list of cannon arms and micro brains and bad habits is very long. Certainly not worth a first round pick.

Josh Freeman is much more of a traditional pocket passer than Cam Newton, he was also a lot o more polished coming out of Kansas State. I don't get the comparison other than they're both black and roughly the same size.

I would also say Newton is a better passer than Vince Young coming out.

What needs to be determined is what kind of QB mind the kid has. All the good or elite QBs in the league have superior understanding of how the offense should work and anticipation.

Someone else made the comparison to Rothlisberger, which I initially cringed at. But having thought about it, I could see a little of that in Newton, although I think Newton has the a lot more athleticism than Big Ben.

As for the Cowboys needs, there is no way on Earth I'd want this kid to be our first pick.

That's the best comparison I have seen thus far. The aptitude and decision making in the pocket, the feel, the ability to extend a play, the rocket arm, the precision... It's all there. The only thing he has over Ben is the ridiculous speed for a man of his size. I consider him Ben with wheels.

The real Ben has no wheels.

Thats what I said, except Bens got a much better mind, and he doesnt have exactly the ideal one himeslf.

the real value of a QB is at least 70% mental. Maybe even more. Joe Montana was relatively small, light and had only an average arm. There are literally hundreds of QBs over the years that had better physical attributes than Joe did.

He also played in a scheme buil around his talents. Someone like Newton could play in any scheme potentially.

oh come on. That is such a ridiculous statement.

Newton has had only one system, right? So claiming he could play in any system is really funny.

It's not ridiculous at all. With his physical skill set he could project to any system.

Yeah he's just a heck of a prospect.

What separates him from Young and Russell is he can legitimately throw.

Can you name some more public people you think "seems like an arrogant thug"? Just curious to know what the attributes are so I can too recognize them when I see them.

Vick, Roethlisberger... guys like that who have been blessed with tremendous physical gifts but act like they're entitled to whatever they want because of that.

just like every other big physical prospect, you numbies ignore the mental aspect. In that area he is suspect. Not bad as Jumungous and others, but suspect.

No thanks. Another Jason Campbell. Go for O or D line in the first, draft a qb in the later rounds

Lol, I get it:

He's black...check

He played for Auburn...check

...he's just like Jason Campbell.
