If Dak signs a long term deal, does Lance seek a trade?

So thinking as he may be, what was the point of trading for him, just to forever be the backup???
The Chase Daniels QB program assures long-term pay but must be willing to relocate & rent. The program has provided income for many for a lengthy period. Ensures pension eligibility too.

Really. Look up their stats.

Lances played 9 games in HS(only 53 completions) Was not good enough to start until a Senior. Had no offers coming out of HS. Went to college camps, and his position was changed for QB to athlete. Schools tried to move him to DB.

Only started 1 season in college. Stats not very good with low level competition.
You just said he didn’t play high school and college football and in this post say he did….you’re all over the place.

Pretty sure the Niners announced that to the world already. Especially when the team was already in place around him day 1. There was no reason to build anything around him.
The Rams thought Jared Goff wasn't the answer either, and now he's in the NFC championship game with the Lions.......

Difference is that Jared Goff was still getting significant playing time as the Rams starting QB at that point. And was the starting QB for them when they reached the Super Bowl. The 49ers didn't even see enough in Trey Lance to keep him as a back up for Purdy and Sam Darnold beat him out for the back up job there.

Trey Lance will first have to show that he can use Training camp and the preseason to beat out Cooper Rush for the backup job here. Before he is able to have any real leverage to be attractive to other teams who are looking for a starting QB. And I assume the OP meant Trey Lance would seek a trade due to his belief that he can start elsewhere. If he can't beat out Cooper Rush in the 2024 season for back up. After he couldn't beat out Sam Darnold for back up, then I don't know if he'll be developed enough to get the starting job on other teams that he wants. At least not just yet.

A bit of both......the backup QB, if handling signals well, sitting beside the starting QB to bring comfort after a miscue, bring good coffee & donuts to the meeting, be sacrificial during practice and stay quiet......you can parlay all of that into a long career. Just sayin'.

  • 1st in Cal career in passing yards per game (329.7 ypg)
  • 1st in Cal career in TD passes (96)
  • 1st in Cal career in completions (977)
  • 1st in Cal career in passing attempts (1,569)
  • 1st in Cal career in total offense (12,086)
  • 1st in Cal career in total plays (1,739)
  • 1st in Pac-12 single-season with 4,719 yards passing
  • 1st in Pac-12 single-season with 43 touchdown passes
  • 1st in Cal single-season with 341 completions
  • 1st in Cal single-season in total offense (4,711)
  • 1st in Cal single-game with 542 yards passing
  • 1st in Cal single-season with 573 yards of total offense
  • 1st in Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl with 467 passing yards

Trey played 9 games in HS and 1 year in college. Please stop comparing athlete Trey to real QB's, just because the Niners drafted him early does not make him a QB.

Trey Lance first has to prove that he can at least be a solid back up QB before he can convince other teams that he can be a better starting QB than the one they currently have or the one they can get through the draft. The 49ers still traded him away with the QB friendly system they have. We don't know what Trey Lance can even be until he starts to see some time on the field during preseason or in regular season if Dak gets injured.

He still has a lot of work to do in order to convince other teams that he could make for a solid season long starter IMO.
Sam Darnold beat him out.

That's why he was traded.

You may not know, but the Niners know, that is why he is no longer there. I trust the Niners opinion more than yours.

Lance needs to get preseason reps to build his status up. If he tanks, he will probably be out the league. Guy isnt going anywhere.

Qb's are drafted based on Measureables, not college stats....TimTebow has many college records, didn't help him in the NFL...SF also moved on from Garoppolo. Dallas traded for Lance because they liked his measureables coming out of college, he was a former first round selection who was injured in SF that hampered his developent and it was a chance to get a look at him at his lower trade value and see if they could develop him...

THE ONLY WAY LANCE WILL EVER BECOME AN NFL STARTING QB IS IF HE GOES TO THE USFL FOR A FEW YEARS TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE POSITION. HE WILL NEVER LEARN BY BEING A 3RD STRING-SCRUB TEAM QB IN THE NFL.

I think I'll just let the rest of board correct you on this one.
