If not Garrett, then who?

Right? There is this huge myth around JG regarding how hard the guys do or do not play. They come out flat just as much as any other team.

This game was more a case of the defense being talent-poor and getting mercilessly dunked on by an elite QB than any kind of mental focus or effort thing.

Yeah JG isn't going anywhere and I love it. I could not be happier. His message is resonating with this team. As long as he has complete buy in, he's the perfect coach for this young core. Having your rookie led team go toe to toe with an all time great is a great measuring stick.

He's also going to get a well deserved COY trophy.

LOL.

Love how the expectations are being reset. We were the #1 seed. We were the team that was 13-3. We were the team that was the favorite to win.

To now write this off as, "Awww shucks guys, our young team just ran into the best team in the NFC and did their best" is hilariously funny at this point.

I have been a huge Garrett detractor. But this season tells me he has the right tools tom get this job done.

Add a few players - DE, LB, DB (2), TE, T, WR - and this team will be here again and even better.

I hate to say this because I will be ridiculed about it, but I am beginning to see Garrett as finally coming into his own here.

Fill out his tool box Jerry, and let's tee this up again next year and see where the team is.

Anything shown over the season that he was "getting it" seems to have been washed away when come the biggest game of the year, he and his staff went back to questionable decision making.

My gut is telling me that with more talent he'll be a very good regular season coach but his flaws will get exposed come postseason. He might end up being a worse version of Andy Reid............. rack up regular season wins, division titles but trip over yourself come playoff time losing games you probably shouldn't lose.

Coaches are greatness more because of the tools they have and putting those tools in the place to succeed over some genius guy who can make roses out of manure.

We see Marinelli perform a sleight-of-hand act with an under talent set of players for the most part. But when it came to the big game where it is winner take all, his defense failed enough early to be a causal effect on the loss. Now give Marinelli about four really good players and add Jaylon Smith to the mix and lets see how smart he becomes then.

So too with Garrett.

Resetting expectations? Like when Dallas was dead after Romo went down and they'd be lucky to win 7-9 games with a unknown rookie QB drafted in the 4th round?

And for the record, I do think Dallas under-achieved in this game. Defense should have had a better defensive plan and offense was making mistakes early. However, they fought back, came back from being dead it took a unworldly pass from a GOAT to knock them out. I look at the totality of the season when judging my HC not just 1 game. Firing a HC after going 13-3 lead by 2 rookies and a "no name" defense is asinine to me. This isn't the NBA, and making the playoffs isn't a given. It's damn hard, its even harder to do it with rookies leading your team. For that I applaud JG for a great job.

But pressure will be on him next year to take the next step.

Straight up, TwoDeep3...so do I. He has fought, studied, and led since the lock out. I'm proud of his offense and feel the defense will follow as well. His team never gives up, and the margin of a loss has been 3 points or less for this season, less the Philadelphia game.

A lot of great comments on both sides, I go back and forth on it. Garrett needs to go forward with this team and hope he doesn't have the same fate as Wade Phillips after his 13-3 season. Believe me, I want him to succeed as much as anybody. If he does, we will see a few SB's in our future.

So Marinelli getting a few more players will make Garrett and Linehan stop making silly in game decisions in big games like basically taking Elliott out of the lineup in most short yardage situations like they did yesterday? Will Marinelli getting more players result in better offensive playcalling?

It's very simple. Put up or shut up time now for Garrett. Another early playoff exit next year and that should be it.

He's a frickn cheerleader and apologist, that's it. A really good one, to be sure, but how different would game day be if he wasn't there? If an assistant had a hand held scenario generator that statistically dictated clock decisions based on probability distributions, we would have had a better chance at winning yesterday than we did with Garrett.

Is Garrett a great coach? Eh, he does a lot of things well. That said, the coaches failed the players a couple times yesterday.

How does this game change if the defense does not spot the Packers a 21-3 lead? Everything is connected.

Would I like to see them make smarter decisions? Yes.

But that game came down to a hand full of mistakes and I can see only two that falls on Garrett.

1. Not calling a time out when Butler needed to get back off the field before they get a penalty.

2. Spiking the ball instead of calling a time out.

Otherwise this came down to poor defense early and player mistakes which causes that deficit and the ultimate final field goal.

The only mistake the offense made was getting cute in short yardage. Other then that, if not for a historical first penalty called and a blatant miscall, we probably put up 10 more in the first half.

Garrett, whoever, it won't matter who the coach is. Until Jerry gets on his knees begging the NFL brain trust to forgive him for his past marketing issues, Dallas will never win anything. Period.

Yes I'm salty, but everyone knows it's the truth deep down.

Garrett is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Nope, Dallas is stuck with him. He is to reactive. He learns by failing, which means we have to suffer through his learning "process". Ideally we need someone who is much further along and is prepared for what teams do IN ADVANCE. But Jerry isnt going to make that change. He loves Garrett like a son.
