If not Garrett, then who?

You've had a few of those responses the last few days and I thought you were better than that. I've always liked you as a poster but I see there's little substance behind the screen name.

I think the point is simple. If you are so jaded by this that the team has no hope of ever being good again, then why stick around. Sorry if i let you down by saying this. But I am finding it difficult to see a season where the premiere player went down during a preseason game and a pair of rookies too this team to the play-offs and suddenly there is no hope.

But rejoice. I used to call people names.

Because that's how sports works. Fans celebrate, whine, complain, high five, get giddy, get upset, etc.

You seem to think people are being irrational here by suggesting we still have an issue at the head coaching spot, especially after a game where he and his staff clearly got outcoached and made some noticeable gaffes.

Since when are you the arbiter of when people can rejoice or feel good after years of being critical? Get outta here with that BS.

This team went in as the #1 seed and there were some serious coaching flaws in this game that we've seen repeated before. Another improbable loss under Garrett. Take you moral victory and stick it.

Yep...Kyle Shanahan or Josh Mcdaniels would suck......(sarcasm)
Those guys are pretty dang good. Someone mentioned Patricia earlier, he'd be pretty good too. Just feel that if a change were to be made,it should be an experienced and successful head coach. Can't afford to take chances at this stage. Frustration rearing it's ugly head. LOL

Would that be the same Josh McDaniels who thought drafting Tim Tebow in the first round was a good idea? :muttley:

You have to roll with Garrett one more season, at least. So any talk of firing him today is silly.

But as I said, the clock has started. No more excuses. No more moral victories. I don't want to be here 12 months from now, when an 11-5 Dallas team that won the NFC East lost another first round home game, and hear people talk about how Garrett is growing and the team is pointed in the right direction, etc.

Garrett is a mature oak tree now. He's been here for 7 years as a head coach. The time for "growing" is over.

Garrett is taking much deserved heat, who would you replace him with?
He's a good motivator, but I feel he lacks the strong personality to get in his coordinator's face and challenge them to up there game. I can't see him getting after Linehan and Marrinelli, questioning Jones, for that matter. That being said, who is available that would provide an upgrade?
Gruden, Saban, any thoughts?

It would be counter productive to replace the head coach and the system while you are in the contention window.
I would suggest adding to the coach staff to address its weakness - including a top notch scout team coaching staff to game plan against the #1 team in practice. Performance bonus should be in order when the scout team embarrasses the real team. The scout team coaching staff should not report to Garrett but to Stephen or Mcclay.

I'm forced to agree with this assessment.

The Cowboys had the #1 seed. HFA throughout. No significant injuries to speak of. Three weeks to rest and prepare.

They were favored to win. And the vast majority were, indeed, picking them to win.

And yet. They come out flat and get their butts handed to them going down 21-3 early.

All of that demands and explanation. It can't be simply sweep under the rug like it never happened.

I'm not a Garrett fan but...

He brings out consistent effort with guys. He keeps big egos in check and gets guys to put the team first. Dez, Elliot, Dak, Tony, and basically every guy on this roster says the right thing and looks out for their teammate.

I'm not of the belief that JG gets the most out of his talent but I think he did do that this year for the most part. They just didn't have the right gameplan for 1 half of football and it cost us our season.

Also, many of us begged and pleaded for them to go make a trade for Clowney or sign Dwight Freeney. Those requests were ignored and it was something we obviously needed.

Our talent evaluators won their superbowl in last years draft and they need to win their superbowl again in this year FA and Draft for our defense.

Basically, i'm not in fire Garrett mode. I saw actual improvement this year with the coaching.

Same, if anything he's grown as a coach. Very surprised with the amount of people here calling for Garrett's head. Just lay off social media for a while if it's bothering you that bad that we lost.

Yes, I think there is some irrationality going on here with the fatalism being spouted at every turn. I understand when OTAs begin the hope will return. But this season, these players, and to some degree the coaches have shown me something I have not seen in over 20 years.

This season so reminds me of 1991 and that disappointment. But like 1992, bringing in a stud DE and select players to augment the defense will make a world of difference.

Surely I understand nothing is guaranteed. But loom at teams like Atlanta where they have been building to this NFC Championship game. They were not an over night success, as are no teams in this league. Every team build its roster throughn the draft and somewhat free agency.

If our immediate history tells us anything, Jerry is sitting back and allowing real football people to have a serious voice in the addition this team makes. It appears gone are the days of Jerry overriding everyone because he thinks he is a football guy and choosing the Manziels of the draft.

Jaylon Smith is recovering, and if he can be 90% of what he was in college, Sean Lee will have a book end which makes a world of difference.

Romo now becomes a commodity, and one thing I do believe about Jerry, except for his idiocy about Roy Williams - and I was actually for that trade - he is a great negotiator and follows his own advice to keep your powder dry.

One or two solid free agents and as good draft and this team can make a quantum leap.

Is it cast in stone? No.

But is it more likely knowing the offense is still intact? Yes.

I don't mean to insult you, if i have. This is a time to follow Michael Irvin's advice.

Look up. Get up, and never give up.

I struggle to think a guy who thought Tim Tebow would be a legit NFL QB and used a first round pick on him will end up being a great coach.

Further, as great as Belicheck is, his coaching tree has some duds.
