If not Garrett, then who?

I struggle to think a guy who thought Tim Tebow would be a legit NFL QB and used a first round pick on him will end up being a great coach.

Further, as great as Belicheck is, his coaching tree has some duds.

I'll remind you the Belichick wasn't Belichick the first go round.

And for every Belichick who did better his second time around, there are tons of guys who didn't.

And I don't recall Belichick doing something stupid like drafting Tim Tebow in the first round of the draft either.

After a 13-3 season Garrett isn't going anywhere.

McDaniels was a terrible head coach and botched his personnel management as well. He's another Eric Mangini tier garbageman.

Here's the thing: Patriots coordinators don't do jack squat. The DC is just Belichick's gofer (the defense is 100% his baby), and Brady just changes the play at the line whenever the OC doesn't call something he wants.

Garret isn't going anywhere but I'd sure like kyle shanahan here.

I'm shocked no one has scooped him up yet...Watched the Falcons last Saturday....It dawned upon me who that team was starting to remind me off....that 1997 Denver Broncos team that went on to win the Super Bowl vs the Packers. No one saw that mini dynasty coming.

And there are others who turned out well, such as Pete Carroll and Tom Coughlin and John Gruden and Tony Dungy.

So what you're saying is that if you've made a mistake before, that dooms you to a mistake-filled existence and there's no ability to redeem yourself or get better?
Second, McDaniels selected Tebow because of his incredible leadership skills. McDaniels was also a quarterback guru. Who knows how he would have developed Tebow, but he wasn't given the chance as he was quickly jettison from the Broncos organization.

I'm not a Garrett fan but...

He brings out consistent effort with guys. He keeps big egos in check and gets guys to put the team first. Dez, Elliot, Dak, Tony, and basically every guy on this roster says the right thing and looks out for their teammate.

I'm not of the belief that JG gets the most out of his talent but I think he did do that this year for the most part. They just didn't have the right gameplan for 1 half of football and it cost us our season.

Also, many of us begged and pleaded for them to go make a trade for Clowney or sign Dwight Freeney. Those requests were ignored and it was something we obviously needed.

Our talent evaluators won their superbowl in last years draft and they need to win their superbowl again in this year FA and Draft for our defense.

Basically, i'm not in fire Garrett mode. I saw actual improvement this year with the coaching.
I was really hoping they would make a move for Clowney during the offseason. He was almost universally hated here in Houston, before he blew up this season. I had not thought of Freeney, but he would have been a nice pickup also. I know we are stuck with Garrett, I just hope they can build a strong enough defense, that the players can overcome his deficiencies.

I think Romeo Crennell is an excellent DC. And a decent head coach.

LOL. Stop. McDaniels wasn't going to turn Tebow into something more than he was.

And I don't get your other point. Gruden was a success in his first run as a head coach in Oakland. He played in the AFC title game his third year as a head coach. Coughlin took an expansion team in the Jags and turned them into a playoff team in his 2nd year there and had them in an AFC title game by year 4 or 5. Tony Dungy was a success in Tampa. 4 playoff appearances in 6 years, one NFC Title game. Those aren't the best examples of guys who spit the bit at their first job and then rebounded in their 2nd gigs.

Garrett is taking much deserved heat, who would you replace him with?
He's a good motivator, but I feel he lacks the strong personality to get in his coordinator's face and challenge them to up there game. I can't see him getting after Linehan and Marrinelli, questioning Jones, for that matter. That being said, who is available that would provide an upgrade?
Gruden, Saban, any thoughts?
It is a waste of time to discuss. Jerry will not fire him and those big name coaches won't work for Jerry.

I no longer care if Garrett truly is the 2nd coming of Landry or not, i don't care if he is a brilliant motivator, drafter, strategist or anything else.. he doesn't win!

Year after year of the same thing, press conferences where 'we fought', 'never quit', comments from people regarding the process, right kind of guys, reeling in Jerry, building the right way, we just need XYZ and then we are set, etc..

He doesn't win!

A decade of this guy in one form or another has produced nothing.

If he is a great coach, as many on here suggest, than he is the unluckiest one ever. Either way he is a loser.

I agree but Marty Schottenheimer got wiped out after a 14-2 season. So there is hope.

Marty had a history of bad luck dating back to his days in Cleveland with The Drive and the Byner fumble.

Did Garrett hold a postgame presser yesterday? Didn't see anything on the Cowboys website.

Resetting expectations? Like when Dallas was dead after Romo went down and they'd be lucky to win 7-9 games with a unknown rookie QB drafted in the 4th round?

And for the record, I do think Dallas under-achieved in this game. Defense should have had a better defensive plan and offense was making mistakes early. However, they fought back, came back from being dead it took a unworldly pass from a GOAT to knock them out. I look at the totality of the season when judging my HC not just 1 game. Firing a HC after going 13-3 lead by 2 rookies and a "no name" defense is asinine to me. This isn't the NBA, and making the playoffs isn't a given. It's damn hard, its even harder to do it with rookies leading your team. For that I applaud JG for a great job.

But pressure will be on him next year to take the next step.
Exactly @cowboys1985 this was a memorable season and there is more in store with this team and if anyone would've told me before the season started that this team lead by a 4th rd rookie QB would go 13-3, I would've said that he/she was crazy but that's what happened and this team is in great hands with Dak who went toe to toe and imo outperformed Rodgers even in a loss this team will be back no doubt about that. So some fans now want a new HC based off a loss any fan I run across here from now on suggesting a coaching change after the season our team had will automatically go on ignore if next season the team has a bad record then they can talk about possible coaching changes I'm definitely proud of this team and the season they had and Garrett definitely has my vote for COTY even in defeat.
