If the Cowboys don't go heavy in FA, why not re-sign Dak?

Gotta factor in that the cap just jumped more than $30M though. Dak at $60M would still be less than Burrow's $55M per.

All things considered the floor for a Dak deal should be $60M.
the floor according to who? Are you his agent? lol
I think in the end, he will get between 55 and 60 million. Thisis obviously pure speculation.

I'm just following the math. Burrow received a 24.47% AAV at a $224M cap. The same rate for Dak at this years cap would be around $62.5M. A small step down would be $60 so that's where I'm coming up with my projected floor. Herbert/Allan/Jackson all signed just over 23% which is probably where Dak would fall if I'm guessing. I think if he were willing to sign for less it would be a done deal by now, but that's assuming a lot on my end.

The real issue we start to get into is how long until Dak's agent starts going off the projected 2025 cap and that number shoots up to $65M+? I'm not sure what the historical precedent is there, but I have a feeling with the leverage Dak has that date could be sooner rather than later.

Trust me, I'm not a fan, but don't you think if the running scheme and run defense was better, there'd be a less likely chance of seeing that deer in the headlights look? Dallas isn't that far off.
There is always this if something else was better argument with Dak.

Every team has problems. All of them.

When you sign QBs to big money you create more roster problems.

At some point you focus on the roster or you just keep overpaying QBs until they retire and then open your Super Bowl window back up.

Paying Dak slams it shut. Its proven. He’s not a big game player.

How many Deer in the Headlights performances do you need to see from Dak to comprehend that WE ARE GOING NOWHERE TO GLORY WITH HIM???????????????????
Jeez you guy like beating on dog teams and getting embarrassed by teams like the Bills, Niners, etc etc.
The kid just isn't qualified to take us to the next level.
Holy Cow.....................
It’s mind boggling to me as well.

He’s my quarterback!

He’s the quarterback of my team!

I could care less if he’s the Cowboys quarterback.

Get a quarterback in here that can get the job done. What sucks is the FO disregards the position like they did for years with the safety position.

I AM on the Dak Bandwagon and extending him at 60 mil a year will still allow us to get the top FA players needed.

I mean, if we don't extend him, who's gonna replace him?

Give the man his bag and let's go get those blue chip FAs!
I could see your point if this team ever went out and signed Blue Chip FA's. But they don't and haven't for a very long time.

They can adjust or prorate it however the they like and still have a $40M cap hit at the end of his new contract.
No matter what you put on it, it's still a crap sandwich. Try to spread out 65M a year over the next 4 years. That's not counting the 55M this year. The cap hits would be unmanageable. You can't win anything with your QB at, near, or over 20% of the cap.

I just heard the worst Dak hate take ever from Cowturd. He just said everything has to be perfect for Dak to win games throughout his career. Besides season 1 with Frederick, Tyron, and Martin in their primes along with young legs Zeke, I would like to know the all pro talent that Dak had carrying him. The Cowboys defense was limited in season 1 and the receivers were more name guy then actually talented. I get you want clicks but don’t poop on Dak to make Lamar look better. The Ravens have always had a top 5 defense since he has been in Baltimore and we know nobody is concerned with Lamar’s arm.
Dak is better than Lamar.

They will pay the $55M this year.

They can do a 5 year deal at $300M and $220M guaranteed, $100M sign on Bonus. On year 5 he is cut, traded or extended.

2025 - $40M current cap hit. $5M Salary, $10M sign on for a total of $55M. Added cap $15M

2026 - $20M salary, $30M bonus = $50M
2027 - $25M salary, $30M bonus = $55M
2028 - $30M salary, $30M bonus = $60M
2029 - $40M Dead cap hit - cut or traded = $40M

Remaining $80M never gets paid out in 2029, it is not guarantee. Basically Plays 4 years, paid out over 5, at an average of $55M or $220M guarantee. Would still owe the current $40M in Dead cap space in 2029.

Yeah, based on what Goff got and his playoff success, I don't think Dak deserves more than 53 mil. He'll probably get more because of the market, but Goff has been to two championship games and a Super Bowl. Dak has two playoff wins in 9 seasons. That's unacceptable. If it's me, Dak deserves somewhere in the 45-50 mil range.
I don’t disagree of his worth but that’s probably not the reality of the situation especially in current NFL climate on market prices for QB’s.

Unfortunately if we believe he’s worth 50- 53 like or close to Goff then 55 + which is probably what he’s pursuing shouldn’t make that much difference in the overall scheme. It becomes more of a talking point than anything else.

And I’d argue Goff has had better teams around him in those deeper playoff runs while Prescott continues to not have his best performances on the bigger stages. But Goff no doubt has performed better in those circumstances. But we must also remember he was traded cause he couldn't get over the bigger hump in LA for a QB on lesser team they thought could. And they were right. Just saying.

Is Dak enough to continue forward trying to surround and get over the hump. Tough call but not sure what our better alternatives are at this point. Unless we want to basically start over in 2025. We know we have a playoff caliber QB. Can he improve in playoffs taking the next step and can we build a better team.

I don’t have those answers. And I don’t believe we have that championship caliber team less a greater QB. Would a greater QB help, of course. I’d probably argue to stay the course . Especially with our ownership, I have little faith we’d find the next playoff caliber QB right off the bat. I don’t see any Elite QB’s available.

I’d recommend resigning Dak to as short a term as possible and draft our heir apparent . And begin grooming him to take over in the coming years.

To answer why we haven’t resigned Dak it’s probably as our owner said he’s “ waiting on the leaves to fall” . Which means he didn’t want to set the market price first.

He’s waiting to see where all or most of these other Franchise QB’s like Goff, Lawrence and Tua would resign which would provide a better baseline for negotiations with Dak.

And since whether we paid him him 53, 55 or a little more it wasn’t going to create enough cap space to bring in a major FA move. So no real incentive to get a deal done earlier .

Plus with how our season ended in playoffs our owner is playing public perception by not wanting to pull the trigger too quickly but I suspect he will before the season begins or right after the new market price is set. Goff didn’t set it, Lawrence probably will.

That's if he stays at 55M this year. What's the point of paying all that money if the Cowboys have to keep restructuring his contract to compete? As you can see, he's 21% against the cap this year.
everyone has to pay at some point, either in a big lump sum salary at the end or dead cap. previous three years cap hit was 17,19, 23.

even the eagles will get there with Hurts 260M contract. they pay little now, but towards the end of the contract, either hand out a new one, more money, push it to the future or take a big hit. Denver did it with Wilson and took a 80M hit.

last year we had 10-15M on the cap and didn't sign anyone. the year before we had 20M on the cap and didn't sign anyone.

its not the cowboys way. we like our guys!@!

Why not re-sign Dak . . . that's a good question -- possibly a good one for Jerry and Stephen to answer. So far, what Jerry has indicated, it seems because he's finally become disgusted with the amounts of money he's overspending on Dak (and his teammates) to win more in the playoffs and perhaps even a SB, as well. Jerry is nearing the end of the line for himself and getting desperate to solidify his legacy.

Of course, that's to say the FO might be eventually inclined to extend Dak long enough to either win more, or otherwise, acquire a QB to replace him for less money and secure more "bang for the bucks." It's ever so much about the dough-re-mi.
Apparently, that's just how this FO and its management rolls.
disgusted? jerry? why?

Dak was #5 in jersey sales. top 10 the past few years. that spells cha ching to Jerry and Stephen. with Jerry and company its not about winning. its about marketing, sales. and right now they are the king of the hill. no one comes close.

so if they make a move, its not football related. its money related. and there is a cap floor, cap ceiling. so they are not worried about who they pay how much. they are worried about being competitive enough to sell jerseys, fill seats and be on TV. despite the GB debacle, the cowboys are on national TV every week next year. so go figure.
