We would have a true football guy as the GM. Not sure who it would be, but he would be a true football guy. So all would be right in the world. Just accept that as fact and you avoid the headaches. It used to be we looked forward to Stephen Jones taking the helm. That went south today I guess. Anonymous True Football guy, we are looking for you. I hope you don't have a contract with some other team because that would be tampering.
Yah know, Hos, posts like this are so disengenuous and it kills me the condesention you use here and the circular logic.
1st. Stephen Jones came out a few years ago when asked and said he would not be the GM when the time comes. So the idea that people don't like Jerry running the team and would hire a GM have a point. That doesn't preclude Stephen running the team as President. It merely puts a real football guy and talent evaluator in charge with his job on the line if he screws up.
Which is not the case now. Jerry won't fire Jerry.
2. I liked Norv of the list of candidates when Wade was hired. But to be sure, if you hire a man to be the GM, then his choice will be for the betterment of the team with his background in working his way up into the position as his foundation dictates instead of a man buying the team and naming himself GM.
The mere fact you are taking a position that removing Jerry wouldn't be a good idea is curious.
3. The OC and DC would be who the person that was hired to make that call would hire. Speculation is pointless. And criticizing names tossed out here is moot.
Again, this is hire the right guy or lose your job for the GM. The problem with this team at this point is no one holds the players responsible for their actions. Wade is a milque-toast who defers to Jerry who isn't qualified to make a decision.
Now tell me about the drafts recently and then show me the winning record. We have signed long term and big contracts to people who may never live up to them.
I am a huge Roy Williams fan, but truth is he is so overpaid and Jerry gave the farm away and a hefty salary to get him.
He signed Romo when he could have merely franchised him for one year and bought him cheap after last year's results. Romo is worth his money. Do not misunderstand. But a business decision without passion is what is needed and not some guy who gets a Viagra woody over some player that looks good in the shower and reaches for his checkbook.
He is about to pay a King's Ransom for Austin when the kid has shown promise but is far too inconsistent as yet. Plus Austin's agent will cite the Roy Williams contract then pull out this year's stats and say - you paid him for this production, my guy produced more, pay us.
Jerry will talk tough but in the end he will pay Austin like he was Larry Fitzgerald.
4. The Romo premise is ludicrous. I have been one of his biggest critics.
But look at what I have consistently said. Not what some of the geniuses on this site have suggested I have said.
Reduce turnovers and make smart decisions. Protect the ball.
Romo has delivered. And that is all I have asked of him. He has surpassed what my expectations are for his play this year.
So angry fans popping off don't factor into your scenario, because that is emotion rather than the calm calculating comments when we are not in the gloaming of a loss.
5. I did not see one person on any board suggest Terrell Owens and Matt Jones should be the starters.
I have seen people who think Owens should never have been released.
To that they need to look at the offense that is still in the top five without him for their answer.
As far as Matt Jones goes, the comments I have seen, and I read here far more than I post were they wanted a safety net in the event Austin's health became an issue.
Trying to illustrate the absurd by being absurd is better left for Rush Limbaugh.
As far as the rest of your post, the only two things I can agree with are:
A. Tashard Choice should be the starter
B. This isn't Madden
All is not well with this team.
Romo
Witten
Ware
Rat
McBriar
Jenkins (maybe)
These are the people who consistently produce and are play makers.
The rest of the team is filled with people who underachieve, are undisciplined, or are inconsistent with their play.
The coaching staff holds no one accountable for their mistakes.
The management - read Jerry Jones - allows access to someone above the head coach, and meddles in the team's goals in the press and presumably in private.
There is a reason this team has had fourteen years worth of disappointment.
There are people who express their concerns and are considered Negative Nancy's.
Most of those guys today look pretty dang smart, frankly. They have been saying this isn't a great team all the while others have assured it is a contender on sites like this.
I respect you, Hos. We go way back. But the implied message here is wrong.
The record of this team for the last decade and more indicates business as usual gets us exactly what we see right now.
An uninspired team looking for a warm spot on the pavement to lay down.
