If you are a defensive player, do you target Rodgers' calf?

If clay Mathews gets to romo, he is going to target romo's back. No doubt in my mind. Nothing wrong with doing the same to rodgers weak spot.

It's obvious by some of the responses in this thread that a lot of people are scared of competition... Smh.

A really would you want it any other way?

This is football. I expect the Packers to make every attempt, within the confines of the rules, to put Romo out of the game the Cowboys to do so to Rodgers.

The difference is that Romo's back/torso is one of the few place that it's actually legal to hit a QB anymore. You aren't allowed to go high a QB, you aren't allowed to go low.

Personally I think there is a lot wrong with it. Both ways. I prefer guys to play hard and clean, I don't want them to target injuries. What Clay Mathews wants to do won't affect what I want my guys to do.

This is football. And that sort of thing happens every week. Teams know what injuries other players have and they go for them. I want them to win. However they have to do it is fine by me.

I would. It would definitely be in my mind when tackling him, at the bottom of a pile, whatever the situation may be. I'm not saying do anything that could draw a flag, but between the whistles, go after it. This is nothing mew, guys have been going for romo's back. It's our turn, stakes are too high not to test that calf.

No

I don't like it. There is "dirty" play and then there is clean , hard hitting, football....

I don't like it. I don't condone it. I don't support it. I don't teach it. ive never been taught it.

wut? you can't go low on a QB, especially a media darling QB, that's a guaranteed 15yd foul... outside of that it's nearly impossible to target a "calf". Crashing the pocket and making him run might coax a flare up, or it might just let him roll out and kill you downfield like he normally does.

If you know your opponent has a weakness, you attack it. Nothing dirty. Just get some early pressure on him, make him scramble to test the ankle out and the hits will come. I won't shed one tear if Rodgers is knocked out of the game, but let's keep it clean.

It's "Fair game" if your suiting up and playing, if not you got no business on the Field, if it re-injures and he has to leave the game oh well he knew the possibilities, oh wait! we better not touch his calf there we go again we're cheaters! Lol Geez can see the headlines already ...

I couldn't disagree more. I want them to win the game by being the better team.

You can be the better team and still lose. Idc how they do it, just win. If it takes putting rodgers out, that's fine. It's part of football. It means we got to your qb. It's their job to protect him between the whistles. If they put Romo out, I don't think they will feel bad about it.

That's how every team operates. Idk why some here are not okay with it. This is football. It's been like this since injuries were made public.

Ridiculous - he's going to hit him wherever he can to get the sack.

Guys who try to target certain areas are just going to end up missing the play because of it.

He's going to grab him and torque his back and rip him to the ground. I've seen him do it. He's a violent guy when he gets to the qb.

It's going to be hard enough getting to Rodgers, let alone do it in a way that targets his calf which would probably lead to a penalty anyway. Just make him feel uncomfortable and shut down the running game, that's all the D-line should focus on

No, its football. But the use of the word "Target" is what I dont like. But I get it, you test Romo and see if he can make that throw down field or blitz him every play. etc etc. to see if he can scramble..... it is part of football. No doubt.

But, as a football team, in my locker room , etc etc on my team. I just don't want the use of the phrase "target an injury"

Nauhhh. doesnt feel right.
